Sarah Palin's camp is reaching out to activists and operatives in Iowa about setting up meetings while she's in the state Tuesday for the screening of a documentary about her - including with Chuck Laudner, a former Iowa GOP executive director and prominent conservative.

Laudner confirmed to POLITICO he'd gotten a call from Palin's advisers either Friday or over the weekend asking about meeting with him while she's in Pella for the screening of "The Undefeated."

Except that she’s explicitly said she cares about not letting her support base down, “The more support I see, the harder I want to work, and the more determined I am to not let folks down.”

So while you’re technically right, she’s made some commitments here that will be very difficult to live down if she doesn’t end up running. I’m convinced she may be deliberately signaling the base to stay alert and be ready for action while trying hard not to trip the FEC wire before the end of July (Alaska suit deadline) and get tangled up on fundraising rules. Yes, it’s her campaign, but one of the reasons she is loved is because unlike your typical politician, she is family to us, and she really doesn’t want to let us down.

IF she were to opt out now, she will have been teasing her potential supporters who could and should help the best candidate that they can find who IS running.

The survival of our country depends on getting rid of Obama. She knows it and we know it. And that means, realistically, that he will have to be ousted by the GOP nominee. The process of finding the GOP nominee needs to get underway, and in fact, already is well underway.

That is why potentially strong candidates like Thune, Jindahl, Barbour, Huckabee did the right and moral thing by freeing up any potential supporters earlier and letting them go elsewhere. And she has many, many, many more supporters than all of these guys, so that same moral burden would apply to her more so, than to these guys. IF she were not to run, that would be very, very bad. Showing up at the Iowa premiere would be the final straw.

At the end of the day, there is only one issue in this campaign and it is to defeat Obama. Everything that we get beyond that that is conservative, is all the better.

There is only one rational, non-self-serving reason to time one’s appearances in places like NH and Iowa with other campaigns. And that is because you are also running, and this is part of her campaign (albeit not “official”). It is truly a brilliant strategy, and I support it entirely.

But...in the off chance that she decides not to run, I think that would be negative in the extreme, and extremely unflattering. (That is a “logical” possibility, but I don’t think a real one. She’s in.)

If you read the article in full, then you might be afflicted with the mental disorder where people actually believe Pollutico is worth reading.

I believe ConservativeDude is saying that *If* she didn’t run then she would be falling into the hands of her enemies that she was indeed playing games with her supporters; he’s not saying that she was nor that her character IS like that! She has given enough signs that she is running”

Nicely and succinctly stated.

What’s the latest possible date she announce?

Technically, anytime before the Electoral College votes.

Please clarify: to whom would that be "negative in the extreme"?

Please understand that I don't wish to get into a "food fight" over this. It appears that we both admire Sarah and are convinced that she's running. That would be an answer to my prayers.

However, I believe that Sarah's REAL supporters are prepared to accept whatever her personal decision might be and move forward.

I guess we shall agree to disagree.

To make a sort of down to earth example, you don’t date someone for months and months and months and then decide not to marry them. That is using another person for whatever your goals are, essentially leading them down a false path, and it is immoral.

So I think if she were NOT to run, it would be negative in the extreme with regards to her character. It would also be inconsistent, since she has demonstrated nothing of the sort in reality (ergo, you can only rationally assume she is running, as every step she takes is consistent with that).

But if she were not to run, she has been doing a lot of things which are drawing time, attention and resources to her while the country is being destroyed by Obama.

The stakes of this election are as high as any in my lifetime. Even higher than 1980. Obama simply has to go and every step that every leader with political stature takes has to work into that sole objective somehow. She has much more stature than just about anyone, and every step she takes is perfectly consistent with running for President. (If not exactly from the now-existing playbook). So bottom line: if she ends up not running (I’m 99.5% sure she is), then it will be right for us to ask why the hell she didn’t decide earlier NOT to run, and then figure out the best way to contribute to someone else’s effort to beat Obama.

Again, though, we are dealing here with metaphysical hypotheticals, and my point has been, since she is a person of character (there is no real evidence to the contrary), then we can only rationally conclude that she is running, and is doing very well. It is her manifest character together with her actions (together with what not running would reveal) which telegraphs to us and anyone else who cares to look at all of the evidence, that she is running.

Sarah all but declared the words that she was running in her “Game On” speech rallied her supporters, her staff endorsed supporters to join Organize4Palin, a grassroots states-wide organization....,.if Palin didn’t run besides family situations or personal health or well being then you can question why she did those things, but we are saying the those type of things do show that she is running

Just so we're all clear, and I don't have time today to go into detail, let me say that I concur with LaybackLenny's sentiments, in that the only reason Sarah would decide not to run is that she would determine she couldn't possibly win the general, and being the patriot she is, she would come forward to tell us precisely that 2012 is too important to lose to Obama and she would then throw her support to X and ask us to do the same. Of course, I believe that this scenario is a 1%-er at the most, given that there is no X *at this time* who even comes close to Sarah Palin and I can't see anyone else either, can you?

Well she told the BBC that fundraising would b e a concern since Obama plans to raise $1 billion dollars. So I think the bus tour and things might be giving her a window into how much a grassroots campaign could raise.

She didn’t let us down in ‘10 as a private citizen. I think she’s trying to get some to understand it’s about us ‘We the People’ we need to fight for what we want. Mostly we have been a country to take what is given to us. When she sees us fight, I think she believes we/some ‘get it’.

You know, her actions to date would also be consistent with that outcome, and that outcome would also be consistent with her character...and a gesture like that would be truly statesmanlike. You could see Reagan doing something exactly like that (and, in a sense, that is sort of what he did in 76 by trying to help Ford so much after narrowly losing the nomination to him. The day after the convention, some asked him to go indy, and he refused).

So, there are a few ways this could play out, and they are all good, so long as they contribute to the overriding issue of ousting Obama.

Could someone else beat Obama? Yes, I think Perry could. Is Perry as conservative as Palin. No. But could Palin rationally conclude that Perry is the candidate who is the most conservative candidate who could defeat Obama? Yes, she could rationally conclude that.

What I don’t think we will see is that she is going to just simply walk away after doing so much, including appearing in NH and Iowa, and just pretend like it “was no big deal” that she did all that (see my dating but no marriage analogy) and she was never running anyway.

I do not see anyone getting into the race who she would consider supporting, except for Perry (who she endorsed against Hutchison).

But she has sole control as to whether she shows up at a premier of it....in Iowa.

I wish she’d run, if only because the left-wing media is so sure she won’t.
