Wisconsin's Walker Signs Historic School Choice Bill
Story from Newsmax.com ^

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker today signed into law the largest expansion to the state’s school choice programs in history. The expansion will benefit thousands of children from the state’s low- and middle-income families and sends a strong signal to the nation that educational equality is possible with strong leadership from state legislators and executives.

The American Federation for Children, which—along with School Choice Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Council of Religious & Independent Schools, Hispanics for School Choice, and Democrats for Education Reform—has invested significantly in outreach and advocacy efforts designed to expand school choice in the Badger State, praised the passage of the landmark school choice program expansions.

In approving the state budget, Walker enacted a significant expansion of the popular Milwaukee Parental Choice Program. The state’s 2011-2013 biennial budget contains language that increases income eligibility for the program and removes the cap on the number of participants. The budget also allows children in Milwaukee to attend the private schools of their parents’ choice—anywhere in Wisconsin.

“Today is a monumental day for children in Milwaukee, Racine, and the State of Wisconsin,” said AFC Chairman Betsy DeVos. “Governor Walker and state legislators pledged to put Wisconsin’s children first, and today that important pledge has become law. We encourage governors and state legislators across the nation to be equally bold in fighting for the creation and expansion of school choice programs.”

Is this Betsy DeVos a relative of one of the founders of AMWAY ?

There’s not a day goes by that my local lib rag, The La Crosse Tribune, doesn’t excoriate Walker with either editorials or numerous anti-Walker/Republican letters-to-the-editors from the many resident progressives who populate this beautiful part of the state. Today was no different. There were four or five anti-Walker letters condemning Walker and Republicans for wanting to eat babies and throw old people on bonfires...while starving the rest of the state’s population. Except for the rich, of course, who get all those awful tax breaks. Their Marxist drone is always the same. There were no letters defending Walker.

Just because they did not print any letters defending Walker does not mean they didn’t receive any. Likely they are having heartburn over the amount of pro-Walker mail they received.

The left has always known that incrementalism works.

Wasn’t the progressive movement born in WI?

If so, what irony.

Interesting how quickly a state can turn itself around from about to crash on the rocks to clear sailing when some thinking is allowed to occur.

Wisconsin will quickly reap the benefits of this activity, and libs will ignore the facts of how it happened to improve.

Congrats to the Citizens of Wisconsin.

There were no letters defending Walker.

There were likely more letters defending Walker than condemning him. The letters defending Walker all hit File 13. "Diversity of opinions" to papers like the La Crosse rag means they print letters from gays, blacks, latinos, orientals, Czechs, midgets, disabled persons, and the stray white anglo-saxon protestant --- all liberal, of course. Diversity of opinions never crosses their minds.

Meanwhile progressives are fuming. These failed schools are thier bread and butter, breeding future dependents on goverment handouts and therefore certain democratic voters. A ruined life is the best thing a democrat can hope for, it is in fact, their end-product.

She's a relative of the founder of Blackwater and married the founder of Amway! ;-)

Sounds just like our local paper. I neither buy nor read the local anymore, and it’s tough, particularly if it is the only source of local news.

I refuse to support Marxism, period.

“Wasn’t the progressive movement born in WI?”

We have a lot to repent for here in WI. We basically invented the government union AFSCME in the 1930’s. Sorry about that! Our bad.

Now we have Walker and his “Wisconsin is Open for Business” motto. Times have changed. For the better.

I’d honestly vote for this guy if he ever ran for president. He’s got cahones and he follows through, which is SO rare on the right.

The Devos family is a great contributor to Christian and conservative causes, active in the Republican party, etc. They have been a leader in school choice movement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betsy_DeVos

http://www.allianceforschoolchoice.org/

This is absolutely awesome news. As a homeschool/Christian school mom, I have long that that one of the keys to reclaiming America is to break our children free from socialist indoctrination in the government school system. I hope this trend dominoes in states across the country!

“...good news coming out WI every week.”

We get some bad news now and then. But mostly we flush that down to IL. Then again sometimes it eventually comes back up and sits on the Left side of the senate.
