Texas Governor Rick Perry gets 55% of the vote to Romneys 22%
Despite the mainstream media's best offers to give the Republican nomination for president to Mitt Romney before anyone has actually voted, a Zogby/Newsmax polls shows again how incredibly vulnerable Romney is, and how much conservatives dislike the man.
In a recent Zogby/Newsmax survey of likely Republican primary voters, Rick Perry destroys Mitt Romney basically across the board in a head-to-head matchup.
No matter which way you look at this, Romneys candidacy has holes within the core Republican base, pollster John Zogby tells Newsmax. In simple head-to-head matchups against the two non-candidates, he gets drubbed.
The other non-candidate is New Jersey Governor Chris Christie who beats Romney with 62 percent of the vote.
Since Christie continues to say he has no interest in running for president and since Rick Perry is now considering a run, and since we live in Texas, lets look deeper into the Perry vs. Romney numbers.
59 percent of those who will vote in the GOP primary, but say they are independents support Perry. That's what folks in Texas would call a good old fashioned butt whoopin'.
Romney beats Perry 46 percent to 37 percent among those who call themselves moderates and, heres a shocker, liberals support Romney 58 percent to just 3 percent for Perry.
Conservatives strongly support Perry over Romney at 62 percent vs. 16 percent for the architect of Romneycare.
Romney can only manage to garner a meager 20 percent among voters who believe the country is headed in the wrong direction.
Romney does manage to squeak past Perry among those who list their religion as Other/None.
Perry going to RedState Gathering -
Rick Perry will be in front of conservatives on August 12 14 when he appears at the Third Annual Red State Gathering. The gathering is being held in South Carolina and will be hosted by Governor Nikki Haley.
The event will be held August 12-14 at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina. It begins with a private party hosted by Governor Haley on Friday night and concludes with a banquet on Saturday evening.
I’m not excited about it, but I’ve been predicting for a while that Rick Perry will be our next President. Better than Obama I suppose. :(
If not, we're in for a long hellish road to 2016.
Come on! ANYBODY could TROUNCE ROMNEY!
Rick Perry is a flip flop on illegal immigration!
Just Saying..What part of ILLEGAL doesn’t he understand??
Thanks for posting.
I guess the Perryphobic will arrive pretty soon to tell us how horrible he is and how he is now the media’s favorite.
The guy who does the floors here would be better than “O”
Not even Gardasil will help Milt.
Reagan from Ca followed Nixon from Ca. Maybe Perry from Tx following Bush from Tx won’t be bad?
Interesting. Things are getting clarified.
Fringe candidates (Newt, Cain, Santorum) are clearly out.
Anyway, the guy most worried about Perry is Pawlenty.
Pawlenty’s main asset is not being Romney (or Palin) so his strategy was to the fallback compromise. If Perry gets in, there is no room for Pawlenty anymore.
It is now Romney-Perry-Bachmann(/Palin)
Most people don’t know much about Perry (other than he is Texas Governor), but this clearly show how majority of GOP voters are worried about Romney.
Then again , perhaps Perry is too Bush like to win. I know if I was Obama’s team , Perry would be an easy and fun target. Perry kind of looks like Bush , talks like him. Got the hat and boots too. Avg voter wants 2 things. To fire Obama and move on from the Bush and Obama policies much like 1980 when voters wanted to get rid of Carter and move on from the Nixon Ford years too.
Actually, and I hope I don’t get slammed for saying this, all the people on the Coservative side are worlds better than “O”
There is a lot of talent that the Conservatives have to sort through... and maybe that is as it should be.
The only person I really would have to hold my nose to vote for is Mitt.
Rick Perry-— ya gotta love him with his Texas A&M degree in animal science that will make Eastern Elite heads explode. I am praying he runs. He can beat Bamster by 20 points...easy!!
Go Rick GO!!!
The plumber that unclogs the sewer lines could beat Obama. <---I think that's a better line.
No matter which way you look at this, Romneys candidacy has holes within the core Republican base,
Yeah, we don’t buy snake oil!
Rick Perry Trounces Romney In ZOGBY/NEWSMAX POLL======
That’s my guy! Hell on wheels. Hmmmm. President Perry. (Has a plenty nice ring to it, to me.)
Perry’s deal is he is conservative enough and financially savy enough to enjoy the best features of each of the candidates in himself singularly. You know what I mean? He wouldn’t NEED or HAVE to VP any of the other candidates running for some competency he didn’t have. He really has it all in one, IF he runs at all, and runs well.
The three I think don't have a prayer of making it in the general are Bachmann (no experience or achievement), Gingrich (too creepy), and Romney(Romney care, flip-flopper).
In the real world of politics, neither of them can lay a glove on "O", the rest can.
Nearly ANY Republican would be, and Perry, I believe is to the right of Romney.
Bush the elder (Tx.), Clinton (Ill.), Bush the younger (Tx.), Obama (Ill.)..........Perry (Tx.) ?
” Not even Gardasil will help Milt. “====
GUARDASIL WAS AN “OPT OUT” PROPOSITION, FOLKS, AND IT WAS DROPPED ENTIRELY BY THE TEXAS CONSERVATIVE LEGISLATURE.
To have ever proposed it as mandatory requirement, even with the opt out caveat was not a smart move, and not a conservative move, and Perry regrets it. So, yes, Perry is flawed as is every candidate. His flaws are big, stupid and brassy but they always go away. That’s a plus.
Not even Gardasil will help Milt.
yep. any candidate has warts.
and we could do a lot worse than Perry.
i’ll pull the lever for him!
(but then, I’d pull the lever for
“Perry the Platypus” over Obama...)
I’m trying to be more open-minded with Perry on immigration. You can see my posts, and I’ve criticized him roundly. The good news is that his more recent actions have been opposing illegal immigration.
That said, I don’t see him leading the charge to do what I’d like to see done, and that is to massively limit legal immigration with priority to those who bring skills needed to our nation in addition to stamping out illegal immigration.
“Fly-Over” country means nothing to elitist statists like him. And it will prove to become his worst enemy.
I'm guessing your kids watch the same shows as my kids.
Perry hasn't had the media exposure (read: attacks) that Palin has had.
I have to admit I'm biased, I'm not a huge Palin fan. But still, we HAVE to win it in 2012 so it's time to be pragmatic.
I hope it sorts out quickly so all the others (each a star in his/her own way) can travel up and down the country beating the bushes so to speak, consolidated and strong behind the one we can win with-the sooner this process starts the better.
I get the impression the Liberals are banking on us wasting time and resources on pointless in-fighting.
You may be right, but I think by 2012 most voters will have forgotten about Bush, or pine for the times he was in office. The independents won’t support Obama just because Perry is from Texas.
If they can turn the very moderate W Bush into a right wing fire breathing monster, think what they can do to Perry, or anyone for that matter.
The point is not to bow to their insanity, but to fight.
Palin fights, she's made a huge come back, and if she runs, she can win. Anyone else who runs will receive the same treatment as she has. You can count on it.
Perry beat Hutchison for Gov by running as tne non-Washington candidate, and tying her to Big Government. Worked like a charm. Then tied the Dem to the liberals. Now he has another 4 years.
Am I enamored with Perry? Not on your life. Is he better than Romney? You betcha. Is he a better candidate that Palin? Probably given her baggage. Is he better on the issues than Bachmann? No, but he has more experience and would probably be a better candidate. Better campaigner, that is for sure.
I agree with that, but can you imagine if they ran as a twofer? Heads would explode in Leftyland!
I believe that Palin has made a mistake by exposing herself to the media to the extent she has. EVERYONE misspeaks and makes gaffes, if you know the media will exploit them don't give them a chance. My two cents.
The exploding heads would be better than the fourth of July!
Yep, they're very predictable. "Perryphobic" is the perfect way to describe them. He's certainly not without fault, but who in the world do they think is?
That having been said, there isn't anything that they can dig up on Palin. OTOH, we know very little about what lurks in other candidates and those talked about as maybe candidates. There's something "messy" vis-a-vis Perry's marriage, but what else is there to be outed and trash him with? I don't know.
No one (with an R) is immune to them, they will all be gone after, it's the MO of the left.
We don't know how Perry will react or handle it, we do know that Palin has gotten off of the mat and become one of the most powerful people in our political scene, plus she's learned to handle them quite well. The fun watching her tweak them is beyond mere humor.
I think the naivete of conservatives thinking it won't happen to another candidate (even a moderate) is folly.
Anyway, I'm not going to convince you, so we'll agree to disagree.
Don't forget his other ability.
Rick Perry, far right, in the 1971 Texas A&M yearbook, The Aggieland. This is a photo of the
Aggie Yell Leaders.
I’m in total agreement with your post. This is one election we’ve got to win.
It figures that the shadow government (which runs both major parties); you know, the Globalists, the New World Order fellows, would favor a man with their own vision to be our next president! And I that man is Rick Perry if not Mitt Romney!
Google The grinding of America and buy the DVD which shows the history of Communism in the world, and the life under Communism coming to America. We have witnessed first hand a large sample of it the past two and one half years! Tell everyone you know about it. Buy the DVD. In fact, buy several and distribute them to others. This way the pen can be stronger than the sword!
So where did Palin land in this poll? Oh, wait. They couldn’t have polled her and got the same “Perry is King” results. Perry & Palin aren’t even CLOSE to being the same. He sucks big time.
Rick Perry has BIG problems in Texas right now. Perry’s biggest supporter, home builder Bob Perry and the head of grocery HEB may have effectively killed the sanctuary city bill. People in Texas are PISSED about this. See here:
Perry has a big problem with Bob Perry. It shows how easy it is to buy Rick Perry. It is not cheap, but easy. See how much money home builder Perry has thrown around:
In the interest of full disclosure, I know Bob Perry. He is a good guy and without him funding the Swift Boats thing John Kerry may have become president.
This all is going to be another thing that taints Rick Perry. Even I cringe when I see all the money Perry has received. This is typical of politics. It is a big money game when you are a gov. or president. Huge. And this illustrates the reality that all across the country from the ground up greed is not good.
Rick Perry is going to have some problems here. The media is going to point at him and ask about all this money from one guy. They won’t be doing the same when it comes to George Soros but that is the way it is.....
I doubt there will ever be a candidate that i agree with on every issue. That being said in this election I will proudly rush to the polls and gladly vote for the Republican nominee. I apparently do not agree with Governor Perry on all aspects of the illegal immigration fiasco but I agree with him on most everything he has done and believe he would be very electable. He could probably even carry Mississippi. My favorite candidates at this time, announced and unannounced in alphabetical order are Bachmann, Cain, DeMint, Palin and Perry. I supported Romney in 2008 but he will have to get the nomination without me this time.
Actually, it was done by Perry via executive order to get around the legislature. This after the manufacturer of Guardasil gave Perry more $$$. Note that Guardasil at the time had not been on the market for even a year yet. Perry's ex chief of staff was a lobbyist for Merck who makes Guardasil and his then current chief of staff's mother-in-law worked for a group funded by Merck to push the drug across the country. The Texas legislature overturned Perry's executuve order just weeks after he signed it.
Keep in mind the cost of what Perry mandated via executive order. It would have been over $100 million for just the first go around of three shots.
Perry has been, is now, and will be a pig for money. This is not unique to him but it is true. He is for sale. He has always been for sale. That is Rick Perry. Again, he is not alone but his piggish rutting for money constantly and his want to clear a path for the highest bidder is sickening.
Don't put Rick Perry on a pedestal. He has always been the douche running against a turd sandwich. If it comes down to him against Obama I'd hold my nose again. But beware. Perry has been way to greedy and the media will begin to point this out in ways we cannot conjure yet.
Straight out of the Rats/Media handbook!
Guess you're hoping we won't notice that the BIG GAFFE re her 24,000 emails not only didn't work against her, but was a BIG plus across the board. Even some libs have admitted she was obviously a dedicated/effective administrator. And the Presidency is an administrative job, remember.
And her fun bus tour, with the media hounds howling at her heels - she picked up points on that tour...and her poll numbers are climbing sharply.
Push for you candidate, fine, but I would hope you'd show a little restraint from parroting the RAT/media talking points.
Texas A&M used to be all male student body so the Aggie Yell tradition goes back to that-— Rick Perry was a manly man cheerleader (hopefully) and no Trent Lott clone
Yeah, I'm familiar with this.
Rick added it to the call and continues to support it, Bob and Butt waited until the last minute and started whining, and then the House committee wimped out and now they're dragging their feet to run out the clock.
So, if the people of Texas are the pissers, and they have a perfect right to be, who exactly are the pissees? Are you trying to tell me it's Rick?
didn't know that - that's a plus...
My SIL is a C-130 pilot - coming back tomorrow from a hell hole (Missed Father's Day, daughter's and wife's BDays) - they are unsung heroes.
Takes a lot of discipline, brains and fortitude to fly those birds.
That puts Perry up a notch for me - 3rd after West/Palin ;o)
