And I would guess that the number of citizen complaints most likely have some correlation to whether or not the police abuse citizens.

Another possibility is that the number of complaints have some correlation with whether or not the area is a high crime area where those who have zero love for cops live and no reason to be truthful in making those complaints. Correlation is not causation.

I don’t think that anyone here really believes that all cops are bad. Most are’t. The sweeping generalizations here are coming from those who try to lump conservatives in with libertarians, and then conflating libertarianism with anarchy-based libertarianism, which no one here is arguing for.

Cops are going to have to learn to get used to video cameras. That is the way of the world now, for good or bad. It is what it is.

What probably angers some cops is that on the street, they to a large degree were the authority. Now, the person holding the videocamera holds them in check, thus putting them under citizen power.

Very good. Emily Good is a money grubbing lefty agitator who has entranced many freepers.

In case you missed it - I was being sarcastic.

Just because one wears a badge or holds some other position of authority they should not be exempt from declaratory relief brought about by their actions.

Opps, meant to say “will side.”

If she takes it all the way, she will win. Count on it.

And she should win.

As I said before, what is “appropriate?”

How far can a cop make you back up on your own property? .5feet, 6, 1/, 20. All the way into yor own house?

Can she stand on the sidewalk (public property)?

Keep backing up,.. Nope not far enough... Get into your house!

Regardless he had no right to force her into the house.

Well said. Which is a good turn of events. They work for US, not the other way round.

If your boss wants to videotape you on the job, guess what? It’s gonna happen.

And when a cop has a problem with it, that is a HUGE “red flag.”

You are having doubts about Emily Good. Admit it. Does your right hand know what your left hand is doing?

Harassing a woman who is videotaping you but is not impeding an investigation is a real problem for me and many Americans. We are not going to put up with it, pure and simple. Not in America.

The fact that the videoing of the incident continued after the woman's arrest flies in the face of your accusation the officer arrested her simply for videoing them. Your definition of impeding carries absolutely no weight.

I still have had NO ONE give an explanation as to why the cop singled out this one woman who had the videocamera.

The explanation has been given several times on this thread. Molon Labbie also presented one. The woman placed herself, intentionally, in very close proximity to the police action, hoping for a confrontation. The other members of her group were not in close proximity to the action, and were not confronted by the officers. They also did not open their mouths and argue with the officer. The evidence on the video is quite conclusive in all counts as to why this occurred. You're hatred for cops that are videoed for doing their job can be the only reason that you have failed to recognize the video evidence for what it is.

And the pattern of cops, time after time after time, interfering with the public observing them and recording their actions (yes, that’s right, “interfering”) is unacceptable and unAmerican. We won’t stand for it.

Evidence please? How many instances of true abuse of this authority do you posses? How many instances are there where LEO's have been videoed and no one was arrested for doing so? What is the percentage of officers across the whole of the U.S. who abuse their power in this way relative to the percentage of those who do not? The sweeping generalizations being made against LEO's is reprehensible.

I told you before, and provided proof, but I guess your memory matches your IQ.

Like a true ignoramus, you obviously ignored this when I posted it to you before.

Here are tons of DOCUMENTED CASES, including videotape and photos, of cops abusing their authority.

This will take you a while, so take your time.

The website is called “PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT A CRIME”

http://www.pixiq.com/contributors/248

Go watch all the videos, and tell us which cases of police abuse you would care to defend.

You truly are a brainless idiot.

A small number of incidents does not a case make.

Well, you just keep on living in that lala land of libertarianism. I’ll keep my feet firmly planted in reality. Have fun with that, okay?

Last post on this thread, as I usually don’t post past the 250th post.
People have free speech rights.
They cant restrict people away from both the public sphere (the sidewalk) and the private sphere (the yard), and into the house.

Damn right.

Americans know what freedom is, and we know instinctively when that freedom is threatened.

That’s the difference between real Americans and jackboot-lickers.

DNMFOHE - I've pretty much scanned this entire thread looking for this information (and I very well could have missed it): Was the man that was pulled over by the police (the one that was in front of Ms. Good's house, that is) arrested or released? I seem to remember that he was released, even though at one point he was in cuffs. My memory may be faulty on this point, so I am asking.

Now... If he was in fact released, it would seem to lend some credibility to Ms. Good in regard to her reasoning for the recording the traffic stop. There might be a reason of which we are unaware that caused Ms. Good to be concerned enough to record the incident. At least that is my opinion. Not being fully aware of what the existing reputation of the Rochester P.D. might be, I would certainly count this incident as a negative in the forming of my opinion.

So am I a cop hater? No... As a matter of fact, I loved my police officer father and liked all of his co-workers that I knew. Oh, and my business partner is also a police officer just a few months from retirement. I recognize that the law enforcement community is just like any other community - It has its dregs, its good workers, and its elitist that are out for themselves in the form of power and prestige. The problem is that things are getting very disproportion in regard to the rest of society: The power and elitism are becoming the latest "rush" for a new generation of LEO's that often see a "chance to get even" with what they perceive as some injustice inflicted upon them at some point in their life. Here is an excerpt from something I posted on June 10th in another thread:

"Now, having grown up in a LE household, and having worked undercover myself many, many years ago (before the militarization of most LE began) let me quote my police officer father's statement just before he retired: "I'm glad to be getting out, because my days as a Field Training Officer will be done. These kids they are sending out of the academy these days aren't taught to think any more - they are taught 'You've got to get them before they get you!', but the academy isn't teaching the kids who the 'them' is..."
That, from my father who retired in 1988... I left the work a couple a years earlier and went another route. Very thankful I did. It seems that common sense law enforcement has been replaced by brute force law enforcement."

Someone else said it on this thread... If this officer had had any training on how to handle situations like this, it would have never happened. What if he had said "Ma'am, I'm fine with you recording this, but would you mind stepping back a few feet for your own safety as well as ours?" Had he asked that way it would have completely disarmed the entire situation. But then he wouldn't have been "flexing" his badge muscles. That training has been replaced in large part by the "get 'em first" attitude instilled by the academy. It all fits in with the "militarization" of our law enforcement... The only problem is that when we fail to recognize that the duties of law enforcement and the military are polar opposites (one is meant to enforce the laws as determined by the voting populace, thus preserving civil order, the other is meant to destroy the enemy and infrastructure, causing complete disruption of civil order to the point that the enemy sues for peace) innocent people suffer at the hands of those that are meant to be serving them. Yeah... Remember the old phrase "civil service"? That one is getting pushed into the dark corner with hopes that people will forget it.

Anyway... If the guy was released, it should tell us something in my opinion.

Regards,
Raven6
