Amazing NJ has the 2nd lowest gas tax??

Third actually, slightly behind Utah and quite a bit behind Alaska.

I once lived in CT. High gas and high sales tax, but no income tax at that time. Then DODD got them an income tax, and they kept everything else. Government, especially DemonRats love taxes. So when I hear FLAT tax and FAIR tax, I LMAO!!!!! ... ain’t no such thing as a repeal of any tax, just reductions here and there with increases else where.

It’s actually the third lowest as Wyoming and Alaska have lower taxes. The problem is if you take the average selling price and subtract the taxes we pay in NJ, the difference is one of the highest margins in the country. Last week the difference between Pa. and NJ was only a few cents and it should have been a lot more.

I’d rather we taxed like Pa. and NY and lowered the property taxes. All those people passing through and not paying property taxes should pay for their fair share.

Of course it won’t happen. Gas prices are the third rail in taxation and the politicians never trade tax income they already have for another tax. They keep both.

I’ll be passing you going the other way. I’m heading to Boulder. Don’t forget to unload your handgun and lock it up going through Illinois. In Missouri you can carry a loaded handgun in your vehicle without a permit.

You’re such a young one! You could always buy gas at Hudson stations in Overland Park for $.25 a gallon. We used to wait for a gas war and it was $.19/gal though. Filled up two teenagers cars and mine every Monday morning for $20.00.

I started driving a gasoline truck when I was 17. I remember gas wars in San Antonio when the price was 0.10c per gallon. There were several times, I drove over 24 hour shifts to get all the stations filled up.

Hey Vast,
I just moved from NJ to GA. The price of gas is about 8 cents a gallon less than NJ despite having 14.7 cents a gallon higher taxes. What gives?

..... and yet I bought gas at the Shell station in Franklin 2 days ago for $3.159 - So it looks to me like I should have payed $2.90.

Oh, and don’t forget the 7% sales tax and the 3.3% (I think that is right) state income tax. It is no wonder we’re not bleeding red ink .... and also not growing our economy like Texas.

Could be any number of factors from differences in regulatory costs, to distribution costs, to market prices of related goods. All of these factors could contribute to differences in market demand and supply curves in the different locations that would drive market equilibrium prices to those separate points.

Too funny to see everyone talking about a few cents per gallon differences.

The Republicans (like my governor Perry) have been VERY SUCCESSFUL in preventing hikes in the gas tax...

...so we will soon get a MILEAGE TAX complete with transponder-tracking of where and when we drive. And once the Dems are through with us, we WILL be paying the equivalent of European rates for fuel (i.e., $9.00 per gallon).

Yet the Republicans (like my governor Perry) will BRAG about not raising the gasoline tax.

Go figure.

We don’t “stick it” to the tourists and snowbirds. Somebody has to pay for the garbage they leave behind.

Ever see the aftermath of beautiful Siesta Key after the April hordes have descended upon it for the day??????
They treat our beaches like they were landfills and the waters like open sewers..

Love my gas prices in Missouri. We are the 6th lowest in gas taxes. I always hear complaints from station owners near the stateline in Kansas saying that they can’t compete with Missouri stations.

They need to stop complaining and start demanding that the state lower the gas tax.

Not at all:

In addition to the concealed carry endorsement discussed above, Missouri now permits any person who is at least 21 years old to transport a concealable firearm in the passenger compartment of a motor vehicle. No concealed carry endorsement is required. Under the old law, the peaceable journey exception to the unlawful-use-of-a-weapon law per- mitted travelers on a continuous peaceable journey to carry a concealed weapon. The peaceable journey exception is still in the law, and may ap- ply in circumstances where the new law does not (i.e. if the person is less than 21 years old).

We evacuated to the hill county with 3 million other people when whatever hurricane it was after Katrina was going to hit here. Could have used you and your rig then - nary a hauler to be found and no gas anywhere for several days.

I think your gas tax is lower because every 2 miles there is a toll booth. Not to mention that if you don’t have the missing dime you need, they will send you a nice picture of your car on vacation for only 50 dollars.
