Posted on 06/30/2011 7:46:06 AM PDT by SeekAndFind
Pella, Iowa On Tuesday night, as dusk settled over this close-knit Midwestern town, Sarah Palin was swarmed. Hundreds of supporters surrounded her, asking for autographs and posing for cell-phone snapshots. She embraced some, patted others on the shoulder. For over two hours, they kept buzzing, Going Rogue and pulled-pork sandwiches in their hands.
The town-square picnic was ostensibly to celebrate The Undefeated, the documentary about Palins gubernatorial record. But no one was talking about her energy reforms in Alaska. Instead, everyone from grandmothers in flag pins to fresh-scrubbed kids wondered whether she will run for president. Her appearance in Iowa on a hot June day to watch a movie, of all things had to have some deeper political purpose. Theories were as abundant as the potato salad.
Yet when I spoke with Palin, in a quiet conversation before she departed, she told me that all of the presidential chatter misses the point. She said that she enjoys being part of the national political conversation, but the idea that she needed to be in office to influence things is bunk.
Being a private citizen, I think I am a good example for others to show that you dont have to have a title, you dont have to hold national or statewide office in order to effect positive change and make a difference, she said. The documentary encapsulates that to be involved for the right reasons and challenge the status quo.
But if Palin can stir whole towns to turn out for a film premiere, why not try to generate similar levels of enthusiasm for public policy as a candidate? As a private citizen, you can effect change, too, she replied with a smile. With that, she and her husband, Todd, jumped into a waiting sport-utility vehicle and zoomed away.
Who knows what she meant by that. I personally think that putting her family through another media onslaught is something she’d rather not do. Plus I think she would be very comfortable supporting Michele Bachmann.
Dear reporter: Today Sarah Palin is a private citizen. Ask her if she’s a candidate, and she will fend you off. She will announce when SHE is ready, not when you are. Read things into that at your own peril.
She’s not running!
She’s not running?
Take your pick.
Either way, she makes an excellent point!
She can point-blank say she is not running, and go from there being a public voice. She did not do that. But, by being coy about it, if it does not lead to a
candidacy, then it will eventually be perceived quite negatively, with so many conservatives left hanging. That’s why I’m presuming she is running, just the timing of announcement is being carefully considered. That’s fine. Like, stick it to libs and the media. If its the former, well, I hope its not. She needs to get in, and then be nominated OR not (ie, overtaken by another conservative).
Awww heck, let them flippin’ guess...and keep guessing.
She will never have peace from the media and could it get any worse? I don’t think so. I think Sarah has reached a peace with it. I do hope she runs because it just seems such a right thing to do in a world that is so damned wrong.
No executive experience
do you not understand?
I disagree and here’s why.
Scott Conroy asked her point blank if the Organize4Palin people in Iowa should cease their efforts on her behalf, and she refused to tell them to stop.
They know how big O4P is getting, and I think they have something to do with it.
She will run, just not until late July or August.
Right now according to RCP, Romney has a commanding lead onthe rest of the field (just the messenger here, hold your fire).
Following himare Perry, Bachmann, Palin and Cain all well behind.
If Perry and Cain get in, it pretty much guarantees Mitt the nomination.
I understand her parents have been under protection for death threats.
You’d have to think long and hard before putting your family through more of that.
I don’t think she’s dumb enough to run in 2012. She has a chance to be the Savior of America if she runs in 2016, while whoever holds the office between now and then (most likely Obi from Nairobi) is ultimately going to be blamed for exacerbating the worst economic depression in US history.
Oh, those oh-so-tolerant leftists.
The only problem with that analysis is that by 2016 the country will be so socialistic with jobs gone overseas and regulations hamstringing others, and with courts full of liberal activist judges that we, as a country, will never recover. I sincerely believe its 2012 or we lose our country and our way of life.
I personally think her name will be mud if she doesn’t run after all this hype. Her base will be so deflated she couldn’t be “kingmaker” for Todd at the Wasilla Burger King.
She is leaving nobody hanging.
As of today, she is not a candidate. If she is not a candidate tomorrow, she is not leaving you in the lurch.
Being a maybe-candidate is a great service in terms of media deflection.
I saw those numbers. To lump Perry, Bachman, Palin and Cain into one group and say that Romney has a commanding lead over them isn't honest.
The numbers were Romney 18% (he has declared himself to be a candidate, oh at least 20 times now).
Perry at 13% (he hasn't even declared himself as a candidate. Just think how high his numbers may go if/when he does).
Bachman at 11% (she has declared)
Palin at 8% (she hasn't declared and from the sounds of things, probably won't) Who stands to gain the most from her not entering?
Cain at 8% (he has declared but still needs some recognition.
Perry and Bachman certainly are within striking distance. jmo
I’ll go with none of the above.
Todd Palin told a handful of reporters Tuesday that his wife will decide on her own whether or not to seek the presidency. He is not pushing her one way or the other, he said.
But he emphasized that if the former Alaska governor does choose to embark on another national campaign, he and their children will be ready.
“This family has been tested,” Palin said. “When people talk about how she was just plucked up out of Wasilla, you have to look at her career. Every step in her career is another step for the family, and we were prepared
You are wrong, underestimating the economy and our ability to do better under better leadership.
The republican nominee will defeat Obama in 2012 and the economy will improve once we repeal Obamacare and the other bad ideas and govt regulations that are holding us back.
We can create 6-10 million jobs in the next 5 years.
The key ingredient is a winning conservative candidate.
No executive experience? Are you referring to Palin?
Gov Palin has said she cannot endorse a candidate in the primaries who has no executive experience.
People expecting Bachmann to get a big boost from Palin sitting out will be very disappointed. Won't happen.
Maybe she feels that by generating a buzz, it better positions her to be a kingmaker.
Maybe she will run, who knows?
Not if we elect enough conservatives (not just Republicans) to control Congress.
Got a quote for that?
Do your own homework.
She’s at a point where if she doesn’t run she has hurt herself and will have a backlash. These last few weeks with the bus tour and this premiere of this film are past the point of no return where she should have said she wasn’t running. We’ll see. But I will lose respect for her if she says she’s not running at this point.
Why won’t she tell us now?
Could it be because she wants to get a better reading on the outcome of her candidacy? I think her objectives are (a) defeat Obama, and (b) win the presidency, in that order.
Her present activities are laying the groundwork for a run if she decides to do it.
You think we have that long?! I tend to think we’re pretty much already finished, but it would be nice to have someone back in office to put off the worst aspects of it for as many yrs. as we can get and have someone back who loves America and can do as much as possible. After all the sacrifice for this country it would be nice to have a legitimite domestic enemy like 0bama out. It’s going to take a no nonsense person that also takes on the media who have contributed to our decline. They have become this nation’s mortal enemy.
So you make up a statement that you can't or won't document and that is supposed to end the discussion.
Besides, you are mistaken. What she really said was that she couldn't support someone who isn't 7 feet tall and didn't graduate from an Ivy League school.
(see how that works?)
Maybe she's waiting to see if any candidate she feels comfortable supporting will seek the GOP nomination. If there is a conservative candidate that she believes can win with her help and she helps that candidate win I don't think that would harm her standing a bit. After some initial disappointment, I doubt even a handful of her supporters would think less of her. Many people would see her more favorably.
No sensible person should blame Sarah Palin for letting the field take shape so she can see whether there's a compelling need for her to run before deciding whether to put herself and her family through another campaign. If Rick Perry runs and Palin decides he's worthy of her support would you really lose respect for her?
Don’t you just love it when people expect you to verify their comment? LMAO
So, do you Bachmomma apoligists take turns or just randomly jump in snd expose your ignorance???
gov_bean_ counter thinks that your worship of his preferred candidate is lacking.
I can confirm Gov. Palin did make that statement.
Not only not verify the words came from her mouth but also to give the reader the chance to see the context in which they were used.
Yes, and then they immediately go to name calling.
I don't have any links handy, but I do remember in a number of interviews, Governor Palin did mention "executive experience."
What part of writing books, patenting her name, quitting the gov. of Alaska deal, making moola, making more moola, having a wannabe diva daughter, Alaskan reality TV series -that is the most DVRed show. It is great and she needs to stick to this and giving her outstanding political opinion (WHICH SHE HAS JUST BASICALLY SAID IN THIS ARTICLE and her energy ideas while making $$$$$$-which is awesome for her and her family-
don’t you seem to understand?
Kicking screen name, BTW.
I just read on this thread that Palin is not doing well in the polls.People usually write books and do motivational patented name speaking after they have run.I wish her the best I truly hope she makes zillions of dollars to support that wonderful family of hers.Palin’s daughter saying Bachmann copied her mom’s style and the people on this forum that have called Bachmann a RINO liberal democrat copycat SARAH WAS THERE first; childish DU pond scum names had all better throw out their kool aid as they have been both hateful and shameful.
The supposed statement is being used to indicate that Palin would not support a Bachmann candidacy. Let's see the statement as used and see if that is the case.
“I personally think her name will be mud if she doesnt run after all this hype. Her base will be so deflated she couldnt be kingmaker for Todd at the Wasilla Burger King.”
Hey, it’s her family and her life. She has had and is having a marked influence on conservatism in the USA. She is also doing an excellent job of putting down the flaming media. I hope she runs. Of course I would be disappointed if she doesn’t, but she will continue to have my loyalty, in either event. She is great for America! She is not a flake and she is not a crook.
You keep using that same old line. We do have memories out here.
Anyway, she has to play coy right now. If she lets out too strong a signal that she’s running, the FEC rules kick in, yes, even before a formal declaration, and she cannot afford to let that happen, which is why, I believe, she had to rein in Bristol for her seemingly optimistic suggestion that a decision had been reached, coupled with, Yeah, I think shed be a great president. Body language that. FEC peeps are watching this very closely. There are good reasons she might not want to trip that wire until late July or early August.
As for her argument that citizens can make a difference, some of the palinistas hang out with in the FB hive are taking that as “Hey, I’m going to need your help, so you as citizens need to keep making a difference no matter when I finally do get in (and keep your powder dry).”
Some also see her saying this, “I may not end up running for reasons beyond my control, but we have to stay on task and save the Republic, no matter what I do.” Many I have spoken with would be saddened by such a decision, but respect Sarah enough to accept that it really is hers to choose, and would indeed stay in the fight, per her instructions.
What is unacceptable, especially after the email dump, is presuming base motives, fame, revenge, money. That’s a meme that helps Obama, by reducing one of our best true reformers to a morally inferior caricature that even Obama looks good compared to. Such a fabrication cannot be supported by the raw data, and is to be carefully avoided by all for whom the greater interest really is the saving of the Republic. We do not make ourselves the better choice by aiding the left in the destruction of one of our very best.
Palin will endorse who ever she thinks MAY pick her as VP. So she will endorse ObamaneyCare Romney or Perry.
You sound like one of those dimRats who totally fear Sarah Palin.
