Victory! Maryland Activists Block 'DREAM Act' with Signature Blowout
StandWithArizona.com ^ | 07-01-2011 | Stand With Arizona

Maryland citizens – outraged by the disgraceful passage of the ‘Dream Act’ in-state tuition bill for illegal aliens – rose up and delivered a blow against Gov. Martin O’Malley’s sanctuary state agenda. Needing 56,000 signatures to block the act from taking effect on July 1st, opponents got well over 100,000 signatures! State elections officials say they have certified most of the nearly 56,000 needed to suspend the law and send it to a statewide referendum in November 2012. The law had been scheduled to take effect Friday, but it has been suspended while officials await a final tally on the signatures.

As a result the law is barred from taking effect through at least Jan 1, 2013. Bravo Maryland patriots! Thank you Neil Parrott and MDPetitions.com, Del. Pat McDonough, Jeff Werner and others for their fantastic leadership and unprecedented achievement. And thank you also to the nearly 22,000 Stand With Arizona Facebook members from MD for helping to make this happen. We sent out 14 updates over the past 3 months to spur action, and you all responded in FORCE, just as you did last fall with 260,000 phone calls to help stop Dicky Durbin’s ‘DREAM’ nightmare.

UPDATE: The ACLU and La Raza group CASA de Maryland are acting like the sore losers they always are when their corruptocrats or Judges on their payroll fail to stop the will of the People, and are now challenging the petitions:

Amazing, a leftist enclave like MD gets this done and Texas has had it for 10 years and repeal is not even on the radar.

Great news! Let’s hope the pigs in office don’t ram it through in a midnight session.

My wife and I signed. I’m pleased with this report but apprehensive about the ultimate outcome.

Good job Marylanders; it’s good to know that there’re still a lot of good people in Maryland.

Cannot be a Fed judge, as this is purely a state matter. An MD judge can agree with ACLU, but it is extremely unlikely given that the Utah chapter of the ACLU argued the very opposite just 2 months ago (see article for details). Almost certainly this will be on the ballot on Election Day, 2012.

Believe me, this place is boiling and the LSM is trying to keep the lid on. It won't work this time.

The serfs are getting uppity. Our betters aren’t pleased. Where can they find a federal judge to save the day?

I would bet most of the signatures came from much of the largely black, middle-class counties of Montgomery and Prince George’s. Many of my black friends, who happily voted for Obama, do NOT like the idea of more free-stuff for illegals.

Yep, this is here where I live . While blacks mostly vote Democrat here, they don't go for same-sex marriage or goodies to illegals both pushed in bills here by Dems.

O Malley (and his Dem lackeys) raised our alcohol tax at the same time he gave illegals this college subsidy. (He got the local TV news to tell us the money would be used for the handicapped, not kidding.) He also raised the cigarette tax and the state sales tax a year earlier. He said we will need this 'educated workforce' (of illegals.)

Now if you were an unemployed black democrat with a GED in Baltimore would you like the idea of your taxes being raised to pay for illegals college?

There are a lot of blacks in Maryland. In spite of the NAACP’s black/brown together facade the fact is blacks and hispanics generally do not get along and blacks do not like it when hispanics intrude on their turf. Ray Nagin bucked the NAACP by speaking out against the influx of cheap hispanic labor after Katrina which cost many locals their jobs.

This is what it will take to get the country back. This kind of thing is probably the only to get legislators away from the lobbies and special interests..
