In Minnesota Friday, highway construction came to a halt, rest stops and state parks closed. And 22,000 state workers have been laid off. The reason: a protracted budget dispute between the state's Democratic governor and Republicans who control the Legislature.
In the absence of talks between Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton and GOP legislative leaders, the shutdown was rippling into the lives of people like Sonya Mills, a 39-year-old mother of eight facing the loss of about $3,600 a month in state child care subsidies.
Until the government closure, Mills had been focused on recovering from a May 22 tornado that displaced her from a rented home in Minneapolis. Now she's adding a new problem to her list.
"It just starts to have a snowball effect. It's like you are still in the wind of the tornado," said Mills, who works at a temp agency and was allowed to take time off as she gets back on her feet. But after the shutdown, she also has to care for her six youngest children, ages 3 through 14, because she lost state funding for their day-care and other programs.

When there is no money; there is no money. The Democrats solution of more taxes, more borrowing, more irresponsible spending, and printing money is reaching its logical end game.

This woman doesn't likely make anywhere near 3,600/month, when she's working. Giving her a $3,600/month child care subsidy, so she can work at a job paying a lot less, is very inefficient.
Upthread noted that 3600 is 22.50/hr. Nontaxable. Then throw in the 5K or so earned income credit every February.
She makes about 45K/year not countin ‘temping’ earnings.

On the ABC evening news, there was a big sob story from a camper who couldn’t go camping this weekend because the MN state parks were closed. So the MN taxpayers are supposed to pay for people to go camping and also for child care credits for irresponsible people.
For less than $16 a day, you can sponsor a child in __________ (specify hell-hole neighborhood).
Shutting down the most popular programs is a common budget ploy. It’s likely that campgrounds were shut down, to garner support for more taxing and spending.
Excuse me, but someone making $43,000/yr from the state is not poor. And that's before you add in AFDC, WIC vouchers, Section 8 vouchers, food stamps, etc. When all that is totaled, she is probably pulling in six figures. Poor? Yeah, right.

I forgot to put the poor in quotes. It was sarcasm. “They” was in reference to the state.
Between daycare and school breakfasts and lunches, all she has to worry about is dinner. With her food stamps no doubt being a minimum of $1000/month or $33/day, she can order 3 large unbaked pizzas per evening with her benefits card.
All she’s really on the hook for is the salad and garlic bread.
Food pantries and churches have pretty much all the rest covered.

Your post is the kind of analysis you NEVER see in the MSM.
Here in Indiana, they even have free school lunch during the summer (non-school) time. AFAIK the free school grub is not deducted from child support or EBT.
