Part of Montana’s problem was the influx into the state and the northwest in general of Californian liberal tree huggers. Most environmental groups receive the bulk of their funding from outside of the state. Thus just about EVERYTHING is challenged by the radicals - even to the point of them wanting to turn nearly all of the western part of the state into wolf and grizzly habitat - and forcing the people out.
