Captain of "Audacity of Hope" Under Arrest in Greece
Arutz Sheva ^ | 2/7/11 | INN Staff

Greek authorities on Saturday arrested the captain of the U.S. ship the "Audacity of Hope" that intended to take part in the Gaza Flotilla aimed at breaking Israel's legal blockade of Gaza, repors CNN. The ship was prevented from sailing on Friday.

The captain is being held by the police and will be brought before a judge on Tuesday. The Greek Coast Guard claims he will be accused of attempting to leave the port without proper permits and endangering the lives of the boat's passengers.

The Turkish daily "Hurryat" reported that inspection of the technical problem on the Irish boat that was supposed to embark from Turkey to Gaza showed that the source of the problem was not intentional sabotage. The organizers of the flotilla had accused Israel of causing the technical failure.

Israel's Foreign Ministry reacted with sarcasm to the accusation. "Israel is not a James Bond movie," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor. "To accuse Israel without any evidence, investigation or inspection by law enforcement agencies is ridiculous and unworthy. If the organizers suspected intentional sabotage, why didn't they turn to the police? What do they have to hide?"

Obviously Israeli sabotage again. How dare they keep them from their photo op with destiny?

I don’t know what’s going on but I’m glad to see Greece step up to the plate despite their own problems.

Maybe this could be the next movie - James Bond in "License to Kosher".

Supporting anything Muslim from Greece is not really a smart move.

Is this Captain related to the clowns on “Whale Wars”?
Sounds like the same “type”.

After relations between Israel and Turkey turned sour, Israel has been cultivating its relationship with Greece.

Columbia University Professor Rashid Khalidi, a close friend of President Obama, is trying to raise money for a ship to run the Gaza blockade (Hat Tip: Will).

Rashid Khalidi, Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia University, has signed an appeal for funds to outfit a ship–to be named The Audacity of Hope after Barack Obama’s second book–that will challenge the Israeli blockade of Gaza in September or October, according to a report by Robert Mackey at The Lede, a blog of the New York Times. His wife Mona is also a signatory.

Rashid Khalidi

Khalidi has written that the establishment of the state of Israel resulted in "the uprooting of the world's oldest and most secure Jewish communities, which had found in the Arab lands a tolerance that, albeit imperfect, was nonexistent in the often genocidal, Jew-hating Christian West." Regarding the proposed two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict, Khalidi has written that "the now universally applauded two-state solution faces the juggernaut of Israel's actions in the occupied territories over more than forty years, actions that have been expressly designed to make its realization in any meaningful form impossible." However, Khalidi also noted that "there are also flaws in the alternatives, grouped under the rubric of the one-state solution".[29]

They can even use the theme song from Goldfinger, and say it’s the villain’s last name. Sean gets to be a fat, senile James Bond, and his grandson is the new 007.

This ship should be named “Audacity of Dopes”. The fact they’re continuing this ploy when Egypt has opened entry into Gaza clearly proves their real intention. And it isn’t humanitarian aid. I’m glad to see things going wrong for them, with this ship and others. Regardless of the real reasons behind the delays.

Here’s what jumps out at me: Audacity of Hope.

Doesn’t this sound FAMILIAR??

The current pretender to POTUS is now sponsoring aid to Gaza? Would love to see Israel blow the “Audacity of Hope” to bits.

So Obama is trying to run the Blockade through his Muzzie pal and a boat with the name of his book. You could not even write this script. How will the Media cover it up?

Returning to America, Khalidi spent two years teaching at Columbia University before joining the faculty of the University of Chicago in 1987, where he spent eight years as a professor and director of both the Center for Middle Eastern Studies and the Center for International Studies at the University of Chicago.[

Based on Obama's admission that he was a doper they should have named it "The Audacity of a Coke Head".

The blogger Carl in Jerusalem posted a video with underwater footage of the first boat in the flotilla that was said to have been sabotaged. I've watched it and don't think those damages look like "sabotage", but let's see if there are any Freepers with experience of such things who will weigh in.

The man on the video (the captain?) is speaking Greek - anyone there to translate?

I really think that BO had a SEAL team or American operators of some type sab the boat and intervined directly with Greek Politicos. Think about it. His ‘catch phrase’ was getting too much public attention and the tide, no pun intended, is turning against these idiots.

He did NOT want the association if Israel found anything on those boats or were attacked by rabid leftist/muslim terrorists after Benji announced they were not backing down.

PR nightmare.

I disagree. I think that these idiots needed some boats, and some Captain(s) chartered out two of the unsafest and broke down boats they could find.

It's always about the money.

My Greek is a bit rusty but it sounds like for what they spent on this flotilla they could have bought Greece and given it to the Palestinians.

No don’t blow it up! The mad mohamadens & the assorted camp followers will claim it was an act of war/terror, instead just have a grease fire in the galley that literally burns that garbage scow to the water line ,Israeli navy then performs search & rescue ops with film crews on hand to show that the Isreaeli navy will even save a half drown rat.
