Rhode Island's governor on Saturday signed into law a controversial bill legalizing same sex civil unions, but said it does not go far enough toward legalizing gay marriage.
Governor Lincoln Chafee, an independent who supports gay marriage, nonetheless signed the measure with the promise that it would move Rhode Island closer to the ultimate goal of legalizing gay marriage.
Chafee had urged the General Assembly to consider same-sex marriage this legislative session. But some legislators felt it would be doomed in a state populated by many elderly and Catholic voters, and a civil unions bill was passed instead.
Rhode Island is the second state to act on gay unions just before state legislatures adjourned for the summer. New York lawmakers a week ago voted to legalize gay marriage, making it the most populous state to allow gay nuptials.
Chafee said he signed the civil unions bill with "reservations" because it "brings tangible rights and benefits to thousands of Rhode Islanders. It also provides a foundation from which we will continue to fight for full marriage equality."
He had two major criticisms of the civil union bill: that it failed to provide full marriage equality to same-sex couples and that it allowed religious entities to choose to not recognize civil unions.

What warped and twisted thinking would lead Chafee to conclude that gay marriage should be legalized? Have schools been so dumbed down that Chafee has no clue about biology?
Male and female genitalia are made for union. Male/male or female/female can only achieve union by means of deviant, unnatural, and risky behavior to both the physical and mental health of the people carrying on such behavior.
In addition this warped and twisted policy puts the general population at risk, both physically and mentally. How does he figure that such insanity is healthy and wholesome? What a moron!

No one can deny that the goal of the homosexual agenda is to destroy our Constitutional freedoms of religion, speech and association.
For starters.
You simply cannot force religions to consider gay marriage acceptable unless you ban the practice of that religion.
The goals of the homosexual agenda are so extreme and vile that most people do not want to face the truth. It’s part and parcel of the left, and no one wants to face the truth about those goals either.
That’s why so many who are not avowed leftists are pants wetting little spineless cowards. They think they can appease the crocodile. Appeasement merely emboldens the enemy.
