More than 5,000 pounds of fireworks were detonated in one big pile at the New York Police Department firing range in the Bronx on Friday, July 1, 2011.
More slow deflragation than detonation ....:o)
Weeeee !
Because this took place on July first, I get to wave my little red flag and say, “Happy Canada Day!”
*waves
Too bad they didn’t do it at night.
I remember when the gooks hit the bomb dump
at Chu Lai, I was a mile away and thought
a nuke had gone off. Lucky for the ord guys
it was the third mortar round and they were
all in their holes but they lost everything
and were still in their underwear the next day.
You could SEE bombs being carried up by the blast
and then exploding in the air. I was on perimeter
guard near there the next day and the sand dunes were
covered with shrapnel. Damaged several of our hangers
one to the point where they decided to go ahead
and blow it down, unfortunately a flying bolt hit
and killed a young Marine, only casualty of the
attack.
Well there ya are then...eh !.....:o)
Hope ya had a good celebration !
damn!
Today, I bought an entire ASS-TON of fireworks at the local supermarket. I bought these because I blew off the entire ass-ton I had (bought at COSTCO and a roadside tent) last night as a prequel to Monday.
We do this here and somehow live to tell about it. NY lawmakers apparently think their subjects are much st00piter than us.
Hated such when it happened...had a base plate off a Mk 83 take the front of my jeep off one time . By the time it hit I had already seen it verse hearing it coming ....lol. Frag an kickouts were EOD nightmares.
Went in during Vietnam an retired after Mogidishu Somalia from active duty. Then went reserves. Hated frag.....
...
For those that have never been there no explanation is possible. For those that have none is needed.........
Thank you an stay safe !
I’ve always wanted to ask a military demolition expert: when you blow up stuff like that “in place,” don’t you still have a lot of unexploded munitions lying about?
In Big Brother’s America, freedom is slavery.
What ever happened to the good old days. My late uncle was a cop in the property clerk’s office in Manhattan. Every year, he would deliver several shopping bags full of seized fireworks to our home. Then on July 4th, my dad would take us out to the local park and fire them off. Lots of Roman candles and rockets. Hundreds of firecrackers, ash cans, cherry bombs, salutes, etc. When I was old enough, he used to let me use a bunch of the stuff. Wanna bet lots of fireworks still finds its way out of the property clerks off, or maybe never even gets there?
Air pollution? Global warming? Who submitted the environmental impact statement? Nanny Bloomnerg let this happen?
Why not just U-Haul it all to a state where fireworks are legal and sell it?
My dad was a cop in Brooklyn, we always had the best fireworks in our neighborhood, because several of our neighbors were also cops and firemen. We would take them to Breezy Point and the dads would set off at the water’s edge.
It’s 8:50pm here in South Carolina where fireworks are legal. Lots of roadside stands. Even churches are selling fireworks!
It’s almost dark out here in the country and soon the show will begin. We had a little last night, we’ll have more tonight and tomorrow night will be spectacular.
It sounds like a war zone here.
Fireworks everywhere , all around me. and I am not talking about little stuff like sparklers, I am talking the big stuff shot out of mortars. All of it is illegal here, but there is no way in hell they could lock up all of those shooting this stuff. Have no iodea how they got hold of this stuff. You cannot buy it here in Maryland.
Tomorrow night should be a hum-dinger if tonight is any clue.
I think it is not so much the explosive content of the firework they mind, so much as the pleasure seeing them work gives. With them, it is always Lent and never Easter.
Hawaii is pretty much a nanny-state utopia, but you can buy real fireworks at convenience stores (year round!) including rockets that go bang at the end of their journey, and I’m not talking sissy bottle rockets either. They blow up underwater, too, and I had quite some fun shooting them at waves so they would do just that. But everything else is restricted there, so far as I am aware. In the Wild West of Colorado, if it leaves the ground *OR* goes bang, it’s illegal. Those Hawaiian rockets did both.
Probably some nanny law against transporting fireworks across state lines.
“Why not just U-Haul it all to a state where fireworks are legal and sell it?”
Because Lib lawmaker’s don’t want ANYONE to have fun. They’d outlaw the stuff past their own state’s borders if they could figure out how.
