As the two Washingtons get back to business following the July 4 weekend festivities, and Operation Fast and Furious documents resume their flow from the Department of Justice to Senator Charles Grassley, it may be a good time to ask about a heavily redacted e-mail exchange obtained by the senator and offered as an attachment to testimony he provided to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
The e-mails, dated Oct. 22, 23, 26 and 27, 2009 appear under the heading “Attachment 4” in Grassley’s attachments and they clearly show a couple of things. First, Operation Fast and Furious — now the object of two Capitol Hill inquiries including Grassley’s and the other by Congressman Darrell Issa — was a product solely of the Obama administration. Second, a lot of people knew apparently knew about it, or at least the strategy that was the basis for the botched operation.
The e-mail exchange has several names redacted, but there are some significant identifiable names who were evidently in on the creation of what was dubbed the “Department’s new strategy for combating Mexican drug cartels.”
“On October 26, 2009, emails indicate that there was a meeting of senior law enforcement officials at the Justice Department. It appears to have included the heads every law enforcement component of the Department, including directors of the FBI, the DEA and the ATF. It also included the U.S. Attorneys for all the Southwest border states, the Director of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, and the Chair of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee.

Good. How was your holiday? Nothing special here except the grilled ribs we had last night. And with our first fresh ears of corn. My wife’s taking a few days off thru tomorrow. Today she’s helping a neighbor friend clean her yard. The neighbor’s 93 and is not as spry as she has been. Me, I’m paying some bills, then will work on the gas grill. The lines are plugged up and need a good cleaning. We’ve been using our little Weber charcoal grill instead.
That neighbor, it was her husband who got me in Kiwanis. Fellow church members, he got after me some years ago and it worked. He’s gone now, and she’s by herself. Julie likes to transport her around, shopping and what not. It gets her out of the house.
Well, you asked how we are. I doubt you expected this earful... :)
Pretty boring around here too. Hubby assembled and customized a work bench for my craft room. We had cheese and crackers for dinner with smoked oysters on the side. We’re out in the middle of nowhere, so it was quiet. We watched some TV shows from our DVD collection.

I am not expecting any substantial results from this investigation. They are still trading Cheerios for Frosted Flakes.
I got off work at 0600 Monday, went home and tried to get stuff together to go BBQ to death some burgers.
We’d planned ot head to High Point NJ, but that site was full.
So we rerouted to Stokes State Forest.
After making armor plating we went home to find out two of our neighbors rented/hired pro fireworks displays.
Today I go for an eye exam.
