The Nanny State is Sour on Lemonade Stands
Fresh Ink (GOPUSA) ^ | July 1, 2011 | Kay Daly

One of the best parts of summertime used to be the plethora of summertime lemonade stands that would pop up in neighborhoods across the nation. A current trend even had several kind hearted children raising funds for a variety of causes from natural disasters to deadly diseases.

Enter stage left, the villain of the tale, a bureaucrat with no soul, no heart, and clearly no brain. It happened in town after town, city after city as lemonade stand after lemonade stand was shut down. Why?

Some bureaucrats claimed it was for a lack of a permit, other bureaucrats claimed it was a health issue.

When a child's lemonade stand is fined or regulated out of existence, it is pretty simple. Government is out of control. Period. End of story.

There need to be fewer bureaucrats and more kids' lemonade stands. It'd be a better world.

The Nanny state is sour on anything that reeks of free enterprise.

I’d support a law requiring immediate summary execution for any pencil-necked bureaucrat who messed with a kid and their lemonade stand.

This is the anti-Private Business crowd.

No business sense, no profit motive, no self-reliance, no personal initiative.

Don’t let me nearby when one of these pencil necked, socialists, tries shutting down a lemonade stand.

One of the most important things for young people to learn is a work ethic. What people in the USA now work delivering papers, working fast-food, or taking theater ticket stubs?

Illegal aliens.

And they shut down the Lemonade stands, too. See?

Thirty years ago a story of a bureaucrat shutting down a kid’s lemonade stand would have been material for a sitcom.

It is now a reality.

Government has become a very bad joke.

Perhaps .gov funded youth block captains would be more appropriate?

I believe Hitler instituted this idea as part of his 1000 year Reich.

My sister has a letter from Jacqueline Kennedy on White House stationary after seeing a picture of her selling lemonade on the street. She thought it was the American way. What happen to the Democratic Party Biden?

We have a monster sized government that cannot deal with the enormous problems that it has created and now can only effectively deal with children’s lemonade stands. Welcome to Obama land. The ONLY thing that Obama did of any import in all of his years as a community organizer was get one or two lightbulbs changed....and the press thought that was more than ample experience to get him elected to the most important office in the world. I am not sure if Obama or the press is more despicable. Obama and his wife actually seem to believe that they not only deserve to be in their position, but they think we should be grateful for them. Their arrogance is unprecedented...and the dishonesty of the press to allow them to be elected is worse than criminal.

Last fall, a friend put together a fun-run through the country-side here in the SF Bay Area for our car club. We all have two-seater ragtop cars, and did a trip of 150 miles, ending up at a park in a coastal town at the ocean. Unfortunately, our friend didn't get the word out to all of us to pack a lunch and drinks.

Just a block from the park entrance were a couple of young girls with a lemonade stand in front of their home. They were also selling hot dogs. These two girls saved a dozen of us from hunger. Best darn lemonade and hot dogs we ever had (we were hungry!).

Small towns can teach the bigger cities a thing or two about tolerance. Especially when it comes down to treasures like kid's lemonade stands.
