Democrats must be in trouble if The Daily Beast is running a headline White Supremacist Stampede, with this opening line:
Add to the growing list of candidates considering a bid for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012 America’s most famous white-power advocate: David Duke.
Ah yes, the David Duke card gets played.
Duke is an anti-Semitic kook who is far more likely in recent years to be hobnobbing with anti-Israel European leftists and Islamists than with anyone associated with the Republican Party or the Tea Party movement.
Yet The Daily Beast trots out a possible (inevitable?) Duke run for President to try to back up a false meme, that there is a “stampede” of Neo-Nazi candidates running in elections as Republicans.
What is the source for that screed? The Southern Poverty Law Center, which uses fear mongering as a tool to solicit donations. (And regularly tries to smear the Tea Party movement.)
But the facts elicited in the article defeat the headline. Only nine candidates who expressly spout white supremacist ideology were identified by the SPLC in the article, out of thousands of candidates who run in races nationwide (emphasis mine):
“We’ve seen increasing numbers of white supremacists and others on the radical right running for electoral office for several years now and we likely had more in the last election than in any other in recent memory,” says Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center. “Although extremely few of these people are elected, especially if their views become known during the campaign, the fact that there are so many openly running for public office reflects the growth of white nationalism over the last 10 years.”

And yet the folks at the daily beast wonder why they own a magazine with plummeting circulation that was sold for a buck a couple of years ago.

David Duke? Last I heard of him he was in Iran at an anti-Holocaust convention put on by the Mullahs. In fact—Duke and Obama have much in common—they both don’t like Israel they think about race all the time. This is just a Liberal Wet Dream. They would even give Duke the money to run for President I bet—just to tarnish the GOP.
That’s what I thought. David Duke is so...1991. I bet not even 10% of the population even knows who he is. The SPLC better spend MILLIONS of dollars in campaign ads to inform the public of this “menace”. And they better not put out many quotes by Duke, because he will sound exactly like Rev. Wright. Or Louis Farrakhan. Or Obama. Or the average DU poster.
Duke and Reverand Wright have more in common then most (they both believe the Holocaust never happened)

Definitely SPLC fund-raising propaganda. One candidate got only 296 votes, one got 49, another got 10 and one only got 7 votes. HUGE threat here folks, send Millionaire Mo mo’ money.
Oddly enough, when former KKK Grand Dragon John Paul Rogers ran for mayor of Lake Wales, Florida, this past March, the SPLC didn’t make a peep. You won’t even find Rogers name on the SPLC web site.
Why not? Because Rogers ran as a DEMOCRAT...
This kind of blatant politicking violates the SPLC’s 501(c)(3) tax exempt status that prohibits “non-profits” from making statements for or against political parties or candidates.
Where is the IRS when you need them?
Taxing the $216 million in cash the SPLC has on hand would alleviate a LOT of poverty.
