Two major names remain on the 2012 bench. Each has a giant persona, comes from a giant state, and has a giant following.
Yes, it’s Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Their political friendship, while somewhat recent, seems real — so real that it would be easy to imagine one endorsing the other if only one of them would jump into the race. That would give an instant charge of credibility and buzz to the endorsee, and likely set either Palin or Perry as the Tea Party favorite.
Their friendship goes back to their days as governors, but their political alliance first emerged in the 2010 Texas GOP gubernatorial primary, when the incumbent, Perry, faced a fierce challenge from Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
National politicians rarely relish involving themselves in fractious primaries, but Palin did so early on, endorsing Perry wholeheartedly.
“He does what is right regardless of whether it is popular. He walks the walk of a true conservative,” she wrote, and, in a nod to their shared cultural populism, added, “He sticks to his guns — and you know how I feel about guns!”
Her endorsement was significant. Hutchison is one of the nation’s most powerful female Republican politicians, yet Palin chose Perry’s conservatism over Hutchison’s status as a potential Mama Grizzly.
But she didn’t just endorse him; she traveled to Texas to stump for him in a splashy campaign event on Super Bowl Sunday. The Associated Press reported that more than 6,000 fans filled a stadium to see Palin take the stage.
Perry, ever the appreciative host, praised her effusively, providing as good a description of the former governor as she herself might make......

The two of them are talking and coordinating. Perry won’t run if Palin is going to. Palin won’t be running if Perry announces.

Wouldn't it be great if the Republican Presidential candidates took the high road, during the primaries, and complemented their Republican opponents instead of trying to destroy them? Phrases like, "My opponent is a very qualified candidate and would make a great President. If I wasn't running I would definitely endorse him/her".
Can you imagine the MSM going nuts trying to create controversy and contention between candidates.
OR Patriot Palin.
It would seem you are right. And more likely, though not certain, that Perry has agreed to be her vp, given everything else that has happened.

Dear Texas Republican Women,
After traveling all over this great country of ours, I have seldom found more endearing and inspiring women than Texas Republican women. You are independent, confident, and know how to make an impact in your state– much like the women of Alaska.
Because of your work, Texas is the largest red state in the nation, and it has a strong, conservative governor.
While a bunch of politicians have gone to Washington, hat in hand, seeking a bailout, Governor Perry has said we should stimulate the economy with tax cuts and maintain spending discipline. Rick Perry is true to conservative principles even when others think the party needs to go a different direction. I like that about him: he doesn’t care which way the wind blows, he acts on his beliefs.
That's why I am supporting Governor Rick Perry for re-election. He does what is right regardless of whether it is popular. He walks the walk of a true conservative. And he sticks to his guns – and you know how I feel about guns!
With our current economic crisis, and working families worried about their pensions, jobs, credit card debt and rising home foreclosures, we need strong conservative leadership in trend-setting states like Texas.
Rick Perry is a leader. While the nation lost half a million jobs in the last year, Texas gained 250,000 net new jobs. He improved the job climate in Texas by refusing to raise taxes in the face of the largest budget deficit in Texas history. He had the foresight to join legislators in saving for a rainy day. And he has consistently asked agency heads to cut their budgets even when surpluses were rolling in. My fellow Republicans, that’s consistent leadership. That's Rick Perry.
Governor Perry has also advocated for greater domestic drilling for energy, and a diversified energy mix – including greater development of renewable sources – so America is not held hostage by Middle East ayatollahs and foreign dictators. But in order to overcome extremist opposition to responsible exploration, we need proven leaders in energy states like Texas who will not back down when it up comes to expanding the energy supply.
Let me say one more thing about my friend and your governor: he knows all human life is precious. Rick Perry believes in protecting the most vulnerable in society, and who is more vulnerable than an unborn child? Our value as human beings in the eyes of Our Creator is not diminished by any circumstance.
Not every child is born into ideal circumstances, but every life is sacred. Rick Perry knows this – it is at the core of his being.
Will you join me in supporting a true conservative for governor – Rick Perry? We need Texas’ diverse and strong economy to help pull us out of our economic troubles. Palin, like Reagan, knows she can't get elected without the approval of the regime. That's why the Bilderberger-certified Perry would be the same camel nose under the tent as GHW Bush was with Reagan. The regime has tried everything possible to destroy Palin, whom they don't own and control. They haven't succeeded, so it's time for Plan B.
This has been my sense too. Who knows? Maybe they'll even announce as a POTUS/VP team. That would take the air out of all of the rest of the GOP candidates.

It really is personal: The Bushies (i.e. Rove) can't stand Perry.
This supposes the most personal rift in the Republican race for governor isn’t between the candidates at all.
“It’s visceral,“ Murray says. “The Bushies don’t like Rick Perry very much.“ The disdain for Perry is no secret among loyalists of George W. Bush, but never before have they had to choose sides in a fratricidal struggle. Now that two Texas Republicans are fighting for the same job, Hutchison’s become the beneficiary of more than a decade of bad blood.
A few incidents have fed the fire over the years. Some remember the 2001 Bob Bullock Museum dedication at which Perry kept referring to the new president as “George”. Or Perry’s criticism of the Bush administration’s handling of immigration policy.
Then there was the governor’s 2007 appearance at an Iowa house party for Rudy Giuliani. Perry told a living room full of Iowa Republicans that the President was “never, ever” a fiscal conservative. “Wasn't when he was in Texas … I mean, '95, '97, '99, George Bush was spending money."
He continued: “George was never a fiscal conservative. I think people thought he was."
The comments immediately rankled Bushworld, according to McKinnon. And there Perry went, calling the president “George” again.
That loose, stream-of-consciousness Perry style fed into a long-held Bushworld view of Perry as impolite and insincere. Sources close to Perry counter that the Bushies have long regarded themselves as superior and never fully appreciated Perry quietly working while lieutenant governor to keep controversial bills away from the then-governor’s desk.
The guy that NPR executives and the New York Times and your average Subaru-driving Whole Foods shopper were afraid George W. Bush was? Rick Perry is that guy. George W. Bush was Midland by way of Kennebunkport. Rick Perry’s people are cotton farmers from Paint Creek, a West Texas town so tiny and remote that my Texan traveling-salesman father looked at me skeptically and suggested I had the name wrong when I asked him whether he knew where it was.

I tend to agree and have said that since Perry’s name started being tossed round. If either one of them runs, I’m all-in with him/her. I’ll be knocking on doors, emailing, blogging, sparring verbally with liberals on their own territory, posting flyers with concise information, whatever it takes.

Sarah didn’t just endorse Perry. She stumped for him too. As Sarah is prone to do, she went against conventional wisdom to endorse Perry.
I respect, admire, and adore President Bush. He’s a good, decent man. But his fiscal conservative credentials and willingness to bite back at the MSM left something to be desired. Perry has what it takes on both of those counts.
I’m a Texan. I’ve heard all the arguments about Gardasil, the TTC, etc. In the end, I comes down to this - Perry will listen to his base. And that’s a political trait that’s nearly nonexistent in D.C.
And I have NO support for my opinion, other than since around 2005, Karl Rove has always been wrong (which leads me to conclude that he is backing Romney =>KBH w/o the skirt; or with).
When I found out some of these Perry detractors were actually shilling for Romney, I nearly puked.
And, as far as I can tell, they are from northern states.
It is also true that Perry has been very critical of Bush's willingness to allow over the top spending, and there is a rift between the Bush camp and Perry?
I'm just trying to sort things out here, these competing (and contradictory) claims are a bit weird.
I wonder if Sarah Palin will be with Rick Perry for the Prayer Meeting August 6 in Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX.

Exactly. These are not automatic disqualifiers like romneycare, gloBULL warming, dedescozza, etc.
There is no perfect candidate. Palin, Perry, Cain or Bachmann would be great with me and there is no reason for conservatives to bash any of these POTUS candidates.

“I doubt there is another public figure in our country who gives liberals a bigger case of the hives,” he said. “At the very mention of her name, the liberals, the progressives, the media elites, they literally foam at the mouth.”
When it came time for Palin to speak, she noted the “really sweet connections” between the two states, their “independent, pioneer-spirited people” and their similar GOP primary electorates. Perry sealed that connection at the event by handing Palin a certificate making her an “honorary Texan.”
Perry went on to defeat Hutchison easily in the primary.

Sounds to me an awful lot like what Sarah did for Bachmann, and look how Bachmann repaid the favor. The very unlady like MB hired Rollins to trash her, and to this day has never apologized.

You mention the 4 names...Only one of those 4 disqualified themselves by hiring someone to trash Gov Palin. I do not have to mention the name, everybody knows! To this day that person has still not apologized. Gov Palin basically saved this candidate, the same way she saved Perry.
I’d rather see Palin/West.
