Republicans are blasting the Obama administration for detaining a Somali terror suspect for two months aboard a U.S. warship before flying him to New York over the July Fourth holiday to face charges in a civilian trial.
Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame, who has ties to the Al Qaeda-linked group al-Shabaab, was captured April 19 in the Horn of Africa region, possibly in Yemen. At his arraignment in New York Tuesday, he pleaded not guilty to the nine charges he's been indicted on by a federal grand jury, including providing material support to a terrorist organization.
"The Obama administration won't detain terrorists at a military facility in Guantanamo Bay, but they have no problem with a naval ship off the coast of Africa," said Rep. Lamar Smith, R-Texas, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. "Their policy toward detainees lacks common sense."
"Why is it so hard for President Obama to acknowledge what the majority of Americans already know: foreign terrorists are enemies of America," he said. "They should not be tried as common criminals, but as terrorists in military commissions at Guantanamo Bay."
Rep. Buck McKeon, R-Calif., chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said the transfer "directly contradicts congressional intent and the will of the American people."
"Congress has spoken clearly multiple times including explicitly in pending legislation of the perils of bringing terrorists onto U.S. soil," he said. "It is unacceptable that the administration notified Congress only after it unilaterally transferred this detainee to New York City despite multiple requests for consultation."

Sneaking them in now.
It makes me wonder how many “witnesses” are being unleashed on our streets without our knowledge.
Now, now he was only detained long enough for Hussein to decide which czarship to bestow on him.
soetoro tells Congress to go to hell
This seems to be consistent with ClowardPiven strategy
Obama probably wants to have sex with him.
I don’t think most people realize how many foreign combatants, war criminals, witnesses etc are brought to America and have been for a long time. The practice really goes back to WWII.
I used to date a Serbian sociologist. When she was working on her thesis, she interviewed Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, and Kosovars in American prisons and walking around free in America. She said that many of those inmates will end up staying in America.
We also ended up with a lot of Iraqis from the first gulf war. Not all are bad but plenty are.
Wasn't his best bud at Columbia from Somalia ?
Obama probably wants to have sex with him.
And I don't mean "Winning the Future!"
Now, is there ANY doubt that this beyond clueless, PC, PRO-ISLAMIC JIHADIST Administration (and our Wussified, Pentagon and Military Leaders) has gone over the edge when we read that even our Military has been ordered to read "suspected enemy combatants" (they are only to be considered "de facto" Terrorists when they have successfully blown themselves and others up) their Miranda "Rights" under OUR Constitution?
What a frikin way to run a railroad.
After what I've read about how the "detainees" are treated in GITMO (movies, computers, lot's of outdoor time and activities, halal food, comfortable accommodations, prayer rugs, Korans--which guards are forbiden to touch--other books, newspapers, etc.) as compared to how our Military are treated when captured, it makes me want to throw up.
Small wonder many do not want to leave and be returned to whatever turd-world, crap-hole they hail from.
Thank God these MORONS were not in charge during WWII or we would all be speaking German or Japanese.
Exactly, he’s sneaking them in now. What’s that about transparency? He hides it because he knows it’s wrong, and holding them on the ship instead of at GB indicates true hypocrisy and arrogance.
As long as the MSM covers for Obama, he will be above the law.
“And I don’t mean “Winning the Future!”
Winning the future” is the title of a book by Newt Gingrich.....Obama is borrowing it......
“Renewing America” is the title of a book by Newt Gingrich......Clinton borrowed it.
Funny how the Dems always glom onto Conservative book titles to describe their Administrations/re-election campaigns.......
They are devoid of original ideas......and have been ever since Karl Marx ws around....
I suppose we’ll try him here in the US using American citizens as jurors with trial outcomes a lot like the Casey Anthony trial.

U.S. Attorneys Office
March 25, 2013
Southern District of New York
NEW YORK, NYPreet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and John Carlin, Acting Assistant Attorney General for National Security, announced today the unsealing of the guilty plea of Ahmed Abdulkadir Warsame to a nine-count indictment charging him with providing material support to al Shabaab and al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP)two designated foreign terrorist organizationsas well as conspiring to teach and demonstrate the making of explosives, possessing firearms and explosives in furtherance of crimes of violence, and other violations. Warsame pleaded guilty on December 21, 2011, before U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon in Manhattan federal court as part of a cooperation agreement with the United States.
Warsame, a Somali national in his mid-20s, was captured in the Gulf of Aden between Somalia and Yemen by the U.S. military on April 19, 2011, and was questioned for intelligence purposes for more than two months. Thereafter, Warsame was read his Miranda rights, and, after waiving those rights, he spoke to law enforcement agents for several days. Warsame arrived in the Southern District of New York on July 5, 2011.
Manhattan U.S. Attorney Bharara said, The capture of Ahmed Warsame and his lengthy interrogation for intelligence purposes, followed by his thorough questioning by law enforcement agents, was an intelligence watershed. The handling of Warsame represents a seamless orchestration by our military, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies that significantly furthered our ability to find, fight and apprehend those who wish to do us harm. Warsames capture, cooperation, and prosecution is a major victory for the United States, for its citizens and for justice.
Acting Assistant Attorney General for National Security Carlin said, Ahmed Warsame served as a critical link between two foreign terrorist organizations and was an operational terrorist leader, commanding hundreds of fighters. His capture, successful interrogation, and guilty plea demonstrate how U.S. military, intelligence, and law enforcement assets coordinate to neutralize threats and protect the country. I thank all those responsible for this important operation.
According to the indictment, Warsames sworn guilty plea allocution before Judge McMahon, and other public information:
From 2007 until April 2011, Warsame conspired with others, including American citizens, to provide material support to al Shabaab. He fought as a soldier on behalf of al Shabaab in Somalia in 2009 and provided other forms of support to the terrorist organization, including explosives, weapons, and training. In addition, Warsame possessed and used destructive devices, machine guns, and an AK-47 semi-automatic assault weapon in Somalia in support of al Shabaab.
Warsame also brokered a weapons deal, arranging for al Shabaab to purchase weapons directly from AQAP. From 2009 until April 2011, he conspired with others, including American citizens, to provide material support to AQAP in the form of money, training, communications equipment, and personnel. While Warsame was in Yemen in 2010 and 2011, he received weapons, explosives and other military-type training from the terrorist organization. In addition, he possessed and used grenades and an AK-47 semi-automatic assault weapon in Yemen in support of AQAP.
From 2010 until April 2011, Warsame conspired to teach and demonstrate the making of explosives and instruct other terrorists and would-be terrorists how to do so. Specifically, Warsame received training in explosives directly from members of AQAP, intending to share that training with al Shabaab when he returned to Somalia.
Warsame was captured at sea by the U.S. in April 2011 on his way back to Somalia from Yemen.
Al Shabaab was designated by the U.S. Department of State as a foreign terrorist organization in February 2008. AQAP was so designated in January 2010.
Warsame pleaded guilty to all nine counts of the indictment with which he was charged, and he faces the possibility of life in prison. The charges and maximum penalties are reflected in the below chart.
Mr. Bharara praised the extraordinary investigative work of the FBIs Joint Terrorism Task Force, which principally consists of agents from the FBI and detectives from the New York Police Department. He also thanked the Department of Defense and the National Security Division of the Department of Justice.
This case is being handled by the Terrorism and International Narcotics Unit of the U.S. Attorneys Office for the Southern District of New York, with assistance from the Counterterrorism Section of the Justice Departments National Security Division. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Benjamin Naftalis, Adam S. Hickey, Sean S. Buckley, and Anna Skotko are in charge of the prosecution.

“British Al Qaeda ‘supergrass’ turns on jihadists and is helping track down Kenya mall massacre gunmen”

SNIPPET: “It is hoped that Warsame’s links to al-Qaeda will help intelligence officials track down ‘white widow’ Samantha Lewthwaite, pictured
Warsame, who gained asylum in Britain 13 years ago, previously helped the US in the assassination of one of al-Qaedas spiritual chiefs in 2011 - Anwar al-Awlaki.
He is also thought to have helped in detaining two other alleged British extremists.
Officials in the West have said the man’s work - described in American court papers as ‘high-level, international terrorist operatives’ - as an ‘intelligence watershed’.
Warsame’s role in the fight against terror has emerged in court documents as well as the testimony of an informant gained by The Sunday Times.
A British security source told the newspaper: ‘Its hard to overstate the importance of what Warsame has been able to tell the Americans, which they have shared fully with us.’”
