Maybe I missed something...aren’t a “not guilty verdict” and an acquittal the same thing?
Casey was acquitted. She was found “not guilty”.
Am I wrong?

Yes, but this jury had plenty of ways to charge her for some responsibility for her daughter being found in a swamp down the street from her home. No excuse for their verdict.
