FORT LAUDERDALE— Police say wealthy retired businessman Ronald Vinci wanted to finally end his long-term relationship with his girlfriend.

During a "heated altercation" in the early morning hours of June 28 at Vinci's new multimillion-dollar home, police allege the girlfriend, Catherine Pileggi, unleashed a tremendous fury, fracturing his skull, stabbing him in the chest, slicing his throat and shooting him in the head.

He was 70, and had everything needed to enjoy life.

She is 54, losing her looks, probably menapausal, and freaking out.

He decides he doesn't need her crap any more and tells her it's over.

She sees her life crumbling, and she has nothing to lose.....

Makes a bizarre kind of sense, if one is already freaking out.

Somebody please tell this woman that that 60's hippie "hairstyle" doesn't work on a 54 year old woman.

"Guilty" doesn't even begin to describe it.

With all the publicity, they’ll have to go to Clearwater again for a jury. That way, the defense will be sure to get the “not guilty” verdict because there’s no video of this murder, and only “junk science”.

The defense will pin it on the handyman. They will villify and smear his character. They will make sure that they lower her seat during the trial so she appears very tiny, fragile, and not capable of such force. The Clearwater jury will be too overwhelmed by actual evidence, and too lazy to take notes. Then the defense can scream during closing that all the state had were “lies, lies, lies”, and point to the real killer, that handyman over there!

By jove, I think you have solved it. Maybe they could bring in references to the Lindbergh baby kidnapping which, years later, lead to a handy man/painter.

That old saw about, “There is no fury like a woman scorned.” is just that, and old saw. No truth to it at all, as long as we ignore the many ex-wives we have had and known.

Really now women do not lose their looks at 54. Men go downhill after 50 and god knows what he looked like and how much Viagra he needed.

I made the comment about "losing looks" based on the photo of the woman involved, not her age per se. Please consider the two phrases as not necessarily linked in general.

FWIW, I'm 59, and so far have aged fairly well, praise be. My female friends are in that same age bracket, and some have aged gently, while others are in rougher shape and starting to break down. The woman in question here looked (from the poor resolution photo) like she is getting pretty brittle.

And yes, the fellow at 70 is likely in rough shape as well.

Nevertheless, I suspect he found himself a younger woman, got tired of this one, or both; either of those cases could be the real reason this one flipped her lid.

Okay, let's rephrase that: a rich 50-year-old man, or even a rich 70-year-old, generally has no problem getting a cute 20-something woman to share his bed (case in point, Hugh Hefner). A 50-something woman very-much-less chance of attracting a wealthy sugar-daddy.

And BTW, I'm older than him, and have no need for Viagra, thank you very much.

She was with him for 20 years, so I can understand her being very pissed off (not THAT pissed). And he was more than just "millionaire", in that the article noted he had owned several auto dealerships, had "yachts, jets and a motorcycle collection". You don't own multiple jets with just a single million.

He was stupid to not have a security guy close by.
