Something about Project Gunrunner (gunwalker, fast and furious) has been bugging me but I just couldn't put my finger on it.
This morning when I woke up I remember seeing Project Gunrunner in a bill that was discussed here. The original thread about it was a rumor thread that HR45 had been rolled into the stimulus package.
In that thread I scanned the text of H.R.1 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 for gun, firearm, etc and came up with a hit.
I posted in the thread: "Only time “gun” or “firearm” appears is in the part that give $10,000,000 to the ATF for Project Gunrunner. That was H.R. 495, asking for 15,000,000 for Gunrunner".
H.R. 495 that I mentioned never made it out of committee, but it looks as it was to specifically fund Gunrunner.
Instead portions of it were rolled into the stimulus package a month later. That text found in H.R.1 is:
For an additional amount for ‘State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance’, $40,000,000, for competitive grants to provide assistance and equipment to local law enforcement along the Southern border and in High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas to combat criminal narcotics activity stemming from the Southern border, of which $10,000,000 shall be transferred to ‘Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Salaries and Expenses’ for the ATF Project Gunrunner.
Notice that's $40,000,000 for Southern border enforcement, $10,000,000 of which specifically for Project Gunrunner. What does $10 million pay for here? It didn't hire any new agents that I am aware of.
What this tells me is that several congressmen also had knowledge of what Gunrunner was going to entail. This isn't just the ATF and DOJ. This is all levels and areas of government. Even members of the House and Senate knew what Project Gunrunner was.

That’s why congressional hearings are nothing but money wasting shows put on for the people.
We need a means of having this sort of investigation conducted by people outside of Washington and that doesn’t mean people chosen by politicians.

Project ‘Gunrunner’ was different than ‘Fast and Furious’. Gunrunner had the aim of arresting traffikers before the guns left the continental US....Obama amended it to ‘Fast and Furious’ and then refused to allow agents to follow the guns out of the store,etc. In other words..it became ‘Gunwalker’ i.e. ‘Fast and Furious’ and the guns were allowed to ‘walk’...something never before done...EVER!
Good research...however it will be shown to have been changed by Obama/Holder from the original intent of the program in short order. Testimony has already shown this gross lawlessness.
If this is written into law the New York Times is a Government entity for doing nothing about this at all.
I really hope Mexico indicts some US Officials and I bet they will talk there.
Yeah, great catch....do we know if there were any actual hearings on this bill?? If so, someone from the Administration, not some buffone in Phoenix, would have had to appear to address the issue for which they were asking for money.
I think back to the scene in Clear and Present Danger where Jack Ryan is testifying that no funds would be used to fund any military operations. Of course, outside his knowledge, the White House was planning on doing exactly that.

No, the Congress nor the POTUS penned the bill. It was done by one of Soros’ organizations. Glenn Beck talked about it in the past but I cannot remember the name of the organization.

Regardless of if they read the bill before voting on it or not they had the opportunity to do so and should have! Voting for a bill specifically because you know it has funding for your pet project or pet cause is no way to perform your job duty as an elected representative. This is just like a CEO claiming plausible deniability for fraud or other illegal dealings of his company that occurred under his watch (he should have known about it because he is in charge - it is his bailiwick).
This is exactly what is wrong in washington!

I should have added that it is clearly the genius of Obama to have addressed niche job creation and population control all at the same time (sarcasm intended).

Of course you are correct, and we have such investigation NOT chosen by politicians, and IS performed by people outside Washington.

Good find...confirms to me this entire scam was intended to blame gun running on Americans and thus a “nice little crisis not wasted” to destroy the 2nd amendment.

Operation Gunrunner is not the same as Operation Fast and Furious. Operation gunrunner actually arrested straw purchasers. Operation fast and furious let them go. “gunwalker” is a nick name given to operation fast and furious.
Project Gunrunner was already in effect. It was started under bush. This waa to continue THAT program, but the chief executive and the doj changed the rules and ordered th ATF to back off arresting the perps. THAT is when things began to spiral out of control nd the guns that “walked” got away. This op goes straight to the oval office and obama is a murderer responsible for the deaths of at least two American law enforcement officers and who knows how many other innocent people. A murderer without conscience, flat out, pure simple.
