Those Oakland teams were colorful to say the least.

I will never forget 1984 when the Padres lost the first two games in the five game NLCS series to the Cubs and came home to sweep three. I am sure you Cubs fans will never forget it either.

Despite his achievements, a very underrated manager. If Earl Weaver had achieved the World Series success that Dick Williams did, the trophy would have been named for him

He left some good memories here in San Diego,
Loved to watch him load a mouth full of sunflower seeds
and spit the hulls out one at a time over the course
of several innings.
Lived in the Coronado Cays for a while. Nice Man.
Rest in Peace Skipper.

Rollie Fingers told a story once about Jackson. I hope I don't pass along a detail or two in error but it went something like this:

Jackson was on third base. Bando hit a fly ball to deep outfield. Jackson didn't tag. After the game, Bando asked Jackson why he didn't tag. Jackson said “I have it in my contract that I get a bonus for leading the league in RBIs. If I score, you get an RBI and maybe that costs me a bonus.” Bando popped him!

His first year as a big league manager in 1967 he took the Red Sox from 9th place the year before to the pennant. All of New England came alive that summer over the Red Sox. I remember sitting on the porch at night with my Dad listening to games on the radio. Great memories. RIP, Dick.

I didn't know he was called "No-Neck." The White Sox had a Walter "No-Neck" Williams who played for them in the late 60's early 70's. No-Necks must run in the Williams' family. walt williams stats
