I guess people have figured out that the government will no longer be printing money to artificially prop up the stock market.

We’ll see about the free-fall. Often Asian markets are lagging the US.

...but this could be real, and we’ll know soon enough.

Jim Cramer is telling people to “not write this market off!”

Canned corned beef. It will last for 20 years on the shelf. And it is a lot cheaper than the high tech foods. Canned white potatoes, canned vegetables. You can stock a heck of a lot of canned food for relatively little money.

“Wonder what Field Peas will be selling for tomorrow?

Hard to predict. Obama just came out against peas, but then turned around and said people have to eat them anyway. He was against eating peas before he was for eating them. Typical Obama flip-flop.

So, the price could go either way depending on whether people actually eat them or not.

You probably should have invested in shrimp, anyway. We know Obama likes shrimp.

I'm not a finance guy...but I will take a stab at it (and not a BS answer...since I get absolutely sick at the constant lack of intellectual discussion of FR lately).

I think the market guys knew QE2 was ending...knew Europe was going to tank...and decided to take as many profits as they could. So...IMHO...they tried to get the market as high as possible before the sell-off to make their money.

There is no support for it...no real support. When those job numbers came out...it should have fallen 300 points...but it didn't. It's not real.

BS answers?

If you’ve been investing for a long time, you’re a slow learner.

Market rising is an indication of inflation. That is all the past two years have been in the stock market; Bernanke prints bucks and goes shopping at the stock market. He can bid whatever he wants; it doesn’t cost him any more than the jug of ink. but when you want to play too, you can’t print money unless you want to live at the Levenworth Hotel.

Didn’t a lot of that printed money go to buy stocks? That’s what I’ve heard from several people.

They want to pump up the market to give the illusion that a recovery is underway.

I figure the market will drop probably 4000 points the week of August 1st after the idiots in Washington fail to raise the debt ceiling and to about 5000 by the end of the year. On the other hand interest rates will probably spike a couple of points so I'll be heading to cash in the next two weeks.

Without QE-3 or some kind of pumping there will be no more inflation just deflation. Of course, things can change overnight but the mad rush is a flight to safety in government bonds, the US$ and gold (acting like a currency now).

Yep. Made a 180 on the preps. Went after fats (coconut oil, olive oil, beef talon and flaxseed). Many of the previous preps will be heading for the food bank and the true believers in the "heart healthy diet" after TSHTF.

Aaaa. Most between 1% and 2%. That’s happened quite a few times over the past few years. It will be interesting to see Congress’ reaction to the European bond thing, though.

You are correct, that gold is acting as the stabilizing currency at this point, which is the reason for the jittery price swings in the last two weeks.
