Schwartz won an Emmy in 1961 for his work on "The Red Skelton Show" and worked on numerous other programs, but will forever be best known for his two campy 1970s sitcoms.

As a side note - I have a friend who can sign Gilligan’s Island to the tune of Amazing Grace - and Amazing Grace to the tune of Gilligan’s Island.

I know, I know - but it’s funny as all get out when standing around a fire after a few beers.

The Brady Bunch was pure schlock. But Gilligan’s Island ventured some pretty trenchant social satire on occasion. Remember Phil Silvers as Harold Hecubah, famous Hollywood producer who came to the island to hammer out a musical version of Hamlet?

And anybody over the age of 50 knows the theme song ... “A three-hour tour ... A three-hour tour ...”

Art cinema? Not at all. Entertainment? Oh, yeah.

Good job, Mr. Schwarz.

Yeah, but, but, but, Gilligan and the Brady’s weren’t “important” TV that “taught us” ignorant, prejudiced rubes critical social lessons.

Speaking of social satire, I wonder how long it has been since the episode with the grenade-throwing gorilla was last broadcast?

When I was a teenager, growing up in the 60’s, I used to daydream of being shipwrecked with Mary Ann.

My teen daughter coincidentally is presently watching episodes from our first season Gilligan collection.

Rest in peace, Mr. Schwartz
