The Economic Collapse blog reports that Robert Kiyosaki is warning of an impending economic collapseand advises on preparations that include buying guns.
By way of credentials, Kiyosaki is the author of the successful Rich Dad Poor Dad books, reportedly having sold over 26 million copies, and runs the Rich Dad financial education website. He co-authored Why We Want You to be Rich with Donald Trump.
The Economic Collapse lists 11 sound bites from a Kiyosaki video (see sidebar media player) that include predictions of collapse where supermarket food supplies are reduced to less than three dayspresumably with no restocking in sight. Of special relevance to readers of this column:
#5"buy a gun"
#8"so come to my house and I'm armed and dangerous and I'll welcome you"
#9"we have food, we have water, we have guns, gold and silver, and cash"
The significance here is not that a probability exists for terrible societal consequences from destructive financial policiesits that it is now being normalized by prominent voices, and more Americans are losing confidence in the system. Which means the message will reach beyond sites like The Economic Collapse, or one of my favorite regular stops, Western Rifle Shooters Association, where they routinely call our attention to other voices like The Market Ticker, which provides detailed analysis and explanations to back up the dire commentary.
The Los Angeles riots and Hurricane Katrina, where territory was ceded by civil authority for days, were mere localized disconnects where the majority of Americans could watch things unfold on TV and make conversation about how bad things looked for "those" poor people. When these Americans no longer have TV because they have no electricityand all that that implieswe will indeed be living in interesting times.

Well, I wanted a SVT-40, but $800 was a tad rich. I am mulling a $600 M-1 Garand (older import from Korea. H&R marked) If it is still there next time....
Nice! I want a Yugo M-76, too, but I would have to sell the cat.
Yep. Veneer's getting pretty thin, isn't it?
The Ruger Mini-14 is cheaper, less expensive to feed and, at those ranges, more than adequate.
I like the mini-14 in the wood stock. I figure if anything goes really wrong, one or two hundred yards is going to be the most range you will need for accuracy and maybe “minute of man” there aftrer.
aftrer = after
gotta use spelchek sometimes i guess.
.45 hollow points for the zombies.
Yea, it sure is my friend. Truth be told unless something incredible drops out of the sky into my safe I'm not buying many more weapons. All of the available funds are going into ammo and components.
That and bulk food staples, medical supplies, storable fuels, etc.
There's a hell of a storm coming our way I'm afraid.
The Civilian Marksmanship Program has them for under $500.
You are a man of discernment and taste. Nice un-welcoming kit.
Yeah, but I like to fondle the rifle before I buy!
;)
Yeah, I’m good for gear. Got enough for friends in need as well - I call it a good investment when that time comes. For me, too, it’s down to supplies and staples now.
I have a feeling that when the other shoe drops, it’ll be a big one.
No matter what anyone does, there's a hell of a storm coming our way.
Guaranteed.
The only thing that's uncertain is what the nature of the storm will be.
Well, then get thee to the store, fondle away, and then if someone else shows up with a fat wallet before you do, you’ve got a backup source. ;-)
“Mosin sticky bolt syndrome”
ps. http://www.surplusrifle.com will meet or exceed your needs for info on bolt action milsurps. Ignore the butthead, dynachrome, who hangs out there on the forums.

I wish we could be somewhere else when it hits the ground, but it doesn’t look like that’s to be. Oh well, we’ve got a good load of supplies laid in so far and we’re squirreling more away every week.
When the crapstorm starts we’ll be as ready as we can be. Our little neighborhood is going to be one giant spiny hedgehog with a real bad attitude for anyone with ill intent.
I hope it never comes to that, I really do. But the signs are there for anyone with eyes to see.
Oh well, might as well get it over with I guess.
From where we sit, we may well be able to see it coming before it hits. Might not be so bad in our neighborhood at first, but trouble can come from anywhere and at any time. That’s a fact. At least we’re somewhat out of the way and not too close to urban areas, but with enough like-minded neighbors to “meet ‘n greet” any prospective and unwanted visitors.
Biggest issue I might face is an abrupt onset while I’m in Spokane. But that’s what the 72 hour kit is for. I’ll post an update with photos here in the next little while.
