Julia Gillard's bitter truth: customer is always right (Australia's Anger Over the Carbon Tax)
The Australian ^ | 07/13/2011 | Rosanne Barrett and Pia Akerman

JULIA Gillard faced searching questions about her honesty last night, as voters in Brisbane pounded her on backflipping on an election commitment not to introduce a carbon tax. It came at the end of another testing day on the carbon hustings for the Prime Minister and Tony Abbott, as their roadshows each hit potholes.

Public servant Aaron Bachman set the tone for Ms Gillard's encounter with 100 professedly uncommitted voters at a forum organised by Sky News and The Courier-Mail.

He asked her why, if the carbon tax was so important, she did not take it to an election and let the people decide whether to proceed.

Ms Gillard agreed that, if the opinion polls were the only guide, putting a price on carbon was not "a smart decision". But she stood by it, because it was the best choice for the future of Australia.

Salesman Phil Churchill demanded that she "please explain" why Australia was the only country in the world to introduce an economy-wide carbon tax.

Thirty-year-old university worker Eliza Matthews told Ms Gillard she was not sure she could trust her, after she had pulled the rug from under Kevin Rudd and reversed her promise that there would be no tax on carbon.

Yes, believing a Leftist’s election promises is often the first mistake.

RE: Worldwide Lunacy! Progressive ideology will attempt to get you wherever you live.

Australia voted for Gillard’s Labor party by a hair last year. For weeks, the entire Parliament was hung because no one knew who the winner was. Gillard had to form alliances and convince a few parties to switch with her to form a coalition. Among the minority party she successfully courted was THE GREENS.

Now you understand why she HAD to pass a carbon Tax.

The ruling class thinks they are going to get to be on the top of the pile when their plans to impoverish the peasants come to fruition.

It's our job to see that things don't go as planned.

Another woman, Ros Brown, then heckled Ms Gillard, claiming that Labor lacked a mandate from voters to introduce a fixed price on carbon.

Mandate, schmandate. Look what Obama in the USA does without mandates.

What Julia Gillard should have replied:

“Trust me, you enjoyed being lied to again and again.”

Australians are well-regarded for recognizing when someone’s pulling their leg but PC still infests the country to an alarming extent.

Rubbish! She's a Progressive/Liberal/Labour Lefty. She don't have to keep no stinkin' promises.

Lots of people are trying to get an election called. It would take a couple of independants to withdraw support or a couple of Labor guys to jump ship and block supply in the Senate- you would see the biggest landslide ever if we can get it to happen!

Interesting times!

For those who don’t know, Julia Gillard is NOT married. She is in a De Facto live-in relationship with her former hair-dresser, Tim Mathieson.

They call him the “First Bloke”.

What would it take to get a new election called? A vote of no confidence or something? (I’m a Parliament gumby.)

Either the some of the lower house change sides - enough to tip the balance of power to the right or a few members of the Senate to switch sides and block supply therefore causing a double disolution i.e. both house then are up for election!

Cheers
