Bachmann Surging In 2012 GOP Race As Romney Is Flat, Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds
Quinnipac University ^ | July 13, 2011 | Quinnipac University

-snip-

"President Barack Obama tops all leading GOP White House hopefuls, hitting the all- important 50-percent mark against every candidate but Romney: 47 - 41 percent over Romney, unchanged from June 8; 50 - 38 percent over Bachmann, who was not matched against Obama June 8; 53 - 34 percent over Sarah Palin, compared to 53 - 36 percent June 8; 50 - 37 percent over Perry, who was not matched against Obama June 8. "Gov. Mitt Romney remains ahead of the GOP presidential pack as U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann has zoomed into second place," said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "With almost a dozen candidates and most of them not very well known, even to GOP activists, Gov. Romney's lead remains. Gov. Rick Perry, who is still a maybe candidate, breaks into double-digits and runs fourth, an indication that he could be a serious contender should he run."

-snip-

"Among independent voters, Romney tops Obama 42 - 40 percent. But Obama leads among independents, a key voting group: 46 - 36 percent over Perry; 43 - 40 percent over Bachmann; 50 - 33 percent over Palin."

Palin seems to be locked in a death spiral with the MSM. She will do a lot of damage to them, but be destroyed in the process.

Michelle is staying above the fray, and it seems the petty MSM attacks are bouncing off her. Indies are still impressed with her.

“Indies are still impressed with her.”

Clearly.

Sarah is great, but can come off as personally thin-skinned and the buzz AROUND her is often ABOUT her.

Michele, despite what some here say, has been thru the same mill as Sarah since her first term. She just moves on and the buzz around Bachmann is about her IDEAS and her direct assaults on Obama.

Whoever ends up being the GOP nominee; I hope they pick Marco Rubio as their VP. I’m sure he’d carry FL for the GOP and I still say that whoever wins FL, wins the White House.

I’d love to see Palin have a cabinet post under Bachmann or vice-versa. Despite her cultists’ carping, the two are still on good terms. AG is one possibility, and she’d also be wonderful taking Ken Salazar’s job as Secretary of the Interior.

I think the biggest story here is the traction Bachmann is getting with independents. Already within 3 points of Obama (and gaining hard). And this in a QUINNIPAC poll, no less!

Bachmann is not only the most conservative of the declared candidates not named Romney, but also the most electable.

Right, wrong, or indifferent, the MSM is having a much more difficult time making the mud stick to Bachmann than Palin. Mostly due to Bachmann’s recent TV appearances, which have been nothing short of outstanding, IMO. Also probably partly because the public are starting to recognize the pattern, and just aren’t buying their crap anymore about conservative women. It’s a shame what they’ve done to Palin, but if her taking flak for so long helps gain Bachmann the WH and Palin a cabinet post, it’s still a win for the country.

There is no way Bachmann outperforms against Obama versus Palin and Perry. All 3 are pretty much on the same page on issues. So what does Bachmann have that is so special? She lacks executive experience and can be cooky with her Al Gore type of little lies. The deal is , Bachmann is the one Obama wants like they wanted McCain in 08 so the pollsters and media have their marching orders. Build Bachmann.

Ditto on Rubio. We need to take back FL. We also need to take back the Upper Midwest states we lost. Bachmann at the top of the ticket would put the entire Great Lakes region minus NY, MI & IL in play for us. Easily as important as FL. I also think Bachmann brings Colorado back into the fold. Plenty Lutherans out this way.

5 years in the house is not experience. No legislation to show for her time either. Staff management problems too. Her experience amounts to voting and running her mouth and voters will stick to the empty suit they have before voting in another one.

None are so blind as those who having eyes still refuse to see.

Most people who yell have hearing problems. You seem to use nothing but bold type in your posts. Are you blind?

Perry is not conservative. Someone should whup you upside the head for even putting him in the same zipcode as Bachmann & Palin. He is a big-spending, globalist, power-mad FDR dem who is soft on illegal immigration and would back full amnesty or a DREAM Act. He panders to conservatives as much as he has to to get elected, and then does nearly exactly the opposite once he's in office. Politically, he is a John McCain clone.

Bachmann is an across-the-board, limited gov't, big 'C', movement Conservative with more appeal than either Perry or Palin among independents. Nearly everyone in the country is fed-the-hell-up with ballooning gov't spending and illegal immigration. Bachmann appeals to those people. Capiche?

Bachmann has a cute female face and she tells her base exactly what her base wants to hear.

However, Bachmann is almost brand new in Congress, has ZERO executive experience, Republicans make up only 29% of all voters and Michele Bachmann believes that God talks to her through her husband.

=====================

Bachmann: "God called me to run for Congress"

In this speech at a mega-church in the Minneapolis area back in 2006, Michele Bachmann explained her decision to pursue tax law wasn't her choice. Her husband, Marcus told her "to go and get a post-doctorate degree in tax law." This was not what Michele wanted. ("Tax law? I hate taxes!"), but she was believed that God was speaking through her husband. "Why should I go and do something like that? But the Lord says, 'Be submissive wives; you are to be submissive to your husbands.”

=====================

Outside of her evangelical Protestant base (two out of every ten voters), that is pure Presidential Election poison.

When a politician implies that, "I am right because God talks to me and told me so", that scares the cr#p out of most voters ..... be they conservative or liberal or in between.

The vast majority of voters will NOT want Michele Bachmann's finger anywhere near the nuclear button.

Governor Perry brings almost 11 years of actual executive experience as Governor of the second most populous and the most economically prosperous State in the Union and active duty service as an Air Force C-130 pilot.

.

What those who refuse to hear anything outside the Free Republic Echo Chamber need to realize is that the very large majority of American voters are to the Left of Free Republic. A "Politically Pure" rating on Free Republic is a huge negative in actually getting elected President.

A conservative that has ZERO executive experience and is viewed as a religious nut-job that believes that God talks to her through her husband has absolutely no chance to get elected President.

A conservative candidate that has a very strong record of executive experience with more than one term as Governor in one of the Big League States (Ronald Reagan / Rick Perry) is very attractive to the majority of voters that we need to actually WIN the 2012. ...... IN SPITE of a high conservative rating.

What about Sarah?

I predict she will not run and will support her friend Rick Perry.

Perry is not conservative. Someone should whup you upside the head for even putting him in the same zipcode as Bachmann & Palin.

This is what Jim Robinson thinks about Governor Perry:

========================

Posted on Friday, July 01, 2011 10:13:29 AM by Jim Robinson

“..... if Palin does not run but Perry does, he'd probably suck all the air out of the race. Either way, ..... Perry would all be excellent alternatives to Obama the commie. Anyone but RINO Romney the big government chief architect of CommieCare! …… Posted on Friday, July 01, 2011 10:13:29 AM by Jim Robinson”

========================

This is what Sarah Palin thinks about Governor Perry:

========================

MAY 31, 2011 .... Palin plugs Perry: "I really like him" .... Unprompted, Sarah Palin brought up Rick Perry's name yesterday as a strong presidential candidate. "I think he would be a fine candidate.... we have a lot in common. I really like him.

Governor Sarah Palin's Endorsement of Governor Rick Perry

"That's why I am supporting Governor Rick Perry for re-election. He does what is right regardless of whether it is popular. He walks the walk of a true conservative. And he sticks to his guns – and you know how I feel about guns!" ...... Sarah Palin, January 17, 2009

========================

If you want to actually defeat Obama in 2012, try to at least consider a candidate that is more than conservative enough for Sarah Palin and Jim Robinson who can actually WIN in November of 2012.

If you just want to brag about how you are the most conservative guy on Free Republic, more conservative than even Jim Rob, then close your mind and help "Obama the Commie" get reelected by pitting him against a candidate that guarantees an electoral disaster of Christine O'Donnell proportions: Michele "God Talks to Me Through Marcus" Bachmann.

See Post 31.

Bachmann appeals to those people. Capiche?

Unfortunately, at the very most, "those people" who have conservative politics but who see nothing wrong with a politician with ZERO executive experience and who see nothing wrong with a politician that believes that God uses Marcus Bachmann as a cell phone are FAAAAR outnumbered by "those people" who would not touch such a candidate with a 10 foot pole.

Once Obama wins a second term, Jay, you might be happy as a clam with your More Conservative Than Thou T-Shirt but the rest of us will be more focused on the continued destruction of what will be left of a once great America by Obama's second term.

None are so blind as those who having eyes still refuse to see.

Exactly. Step out of your Echo Chamber once in a while and try so see that most voters will not elect a candidate like Michel Bachmann just because she is adored by the 20% of all voters that are conservative Protestant religious fundamentalists who see absolutely nothing wrong with believing that God talks to Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann through her husband Marcus Bachmann. ..... Or a candidate that has ZERO executive experience.

America is not making THAT mistake again.

In November 2012, Obama will have four years of experience to brag about and he will promise not to wake up his spouse at 3:00 AM to talk to God if the Red Phone rings.

Michele Bachmann GOP Nomination = Barack Hussein Obama Second Term by a Landslide of Christine O'Donnell Proprtions

Perry supporters seem to be the ones who haven't figured that out, actually. They keep claiming he's "more electable" than anyone else becaues he keeps winning in Texas. A piece of plywood with an "R" next to its name on the ballot could get elected in Texas. Republicans always win in Texas. Perry runs as a "conservative Republican" because hat's how you get elected in Texas. Just because Governor Goodhair keeps winning there against mediocre opponents, doesn't mean he'd be popular in the other 49 states against the full onslaught of the Chicago machine. It's far harder for conservatives to win in Minnesota than Texas.

It would be unheard of to make a non-attorney the AG. I can’t see how a non-lawyer could do that job.

Energy or Interior would be posts actually up her alley but I seriously doubt she’d want to be in the cabinet at all.

I appreciate your concerns about Bachmann, however almost none of them are valid.

Maybe you live in an echo chamber. I don’t. I spend alot of time away from this board, chatting in person and on other boards with no connection to politics (college football, economics, et c.,.). Bachmann’s traction with independents is genuine because of her positions on the budget and illegal immigration.

Perry puts off independents due to his (genuine and cosmetic) similarities to Bush. He’s a regional spoiler and a stalking horse for Romney. The dems would like nothing better than to turn 2012 into another referendum on George W Bush. Perry at the top of the ticket would accomplish that for them, and the GOP would have served it up on a silver platter. How did the last referendum on Bush go? You remember, the one that put Obama in office in the first place, and handed the dems supermajorities in both houses?

Personally not terribly worried about Perry’s vaunted electability (which must only exist in the minds of his supporters, because it’s sure not showing up in the polls). He cannot even beat Romney in a 2-way race. Not even if Bachmann dropped out and endorsed him. He’s radioactive outside the South. He’s being lured into the race because it became clear Romney could not beat Bachmann without one or more stalking horses.

If he gets in, Perry will be Romney’s VP candidate for 2012. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

Oh yeah, Palin endorsed him... Palin’s the reason that jackwagon McCain is still disgracing the halls of the Senate. If she endorses Perry in the presidential primaries against a conservative, she will have jumped the shark in my eyes. I suspect far more of her supporters will choose to follow their own conscience to Bachmann’s camp than Perry’s. Once again, the polls actually back me up here.

Please go pimp your RINO wedge candidate on someone else’s thread.

Wow Cowboy; are you ever the optimist. Michigan; yeah, we have a real chance there. But, New York and Illinois in play for the GOP in 2012.....? We'd have to be in an all out Depression for that to happen; and I'm not even sure that would do it.

From July 5 - 11, Quinnipiac University surveyed 2,311 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.0 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones. The Republican primary included 913 voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.2 percent.
