Fast And Furious Scandal: A Watergate For Obama?
IBD Editorial ^ | July 13, 2011 | Staff

Posted on 07/13/2011 4:21:30 PM PDT by Kaslin

Border: A 2-year-old video shows a high Justice official saying "the president has directed us," including the attorney general, to speed up Project Gunrunner and the offshoot that got a border agent killed.

This tape has no 18-minute gap, and while it does not feature the president himself, the March 24, 2009, video may rival the tape that turned a "third-rate burglary" into a presidential resignation. No one died at Watergate. Agent Brian Terry lost his life in the administration's obsessive pursuit of gun control.

In addition to Agent Terry, Immigration Customs Enforcement Agent Jaime Zapata was also killed in a separate incident by a weapon allowed to "walk" into Mexico from the U.S. as part of the administration's third-rate alleged attempt to track and catch gun traffickers.

The video shows Deputy Attorney General David Ogden, who would resign nine months later after less than a year's service, telling reporters at a Department of Justice briefing of major policy initiatives to fight the Mexican drug cartels.

"The president has directed us to take action to fight these cartels," Ogden begins, "and Attorney General Holder and I are taking several new and aggressive steps as part of the administration's comprehensive plan."

At the president's direction, Ogden said, the administration's plan included DOJ's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives "increasing its efforts by adding 37 new employees in three new offices, using $10 million in Recovery Act funds and redeploying 100 personnel to the Southwest border in the next 45 days to fortify its Project Gunrunner," of which Operation Fast and Furious would be a part.

Fast and Furious equals Watergate times Irancontra.

The MSM studiously ignores it, because it's not a Republican scandal.

Watergate?

Highly unlikely.

That would require an actively attacking, propagandizing Media, seeking to destroy a politican in a payback maneuver, by grossly over-amplifying a pissant criminal activity

Not if the press doesn’t report it and/or the Republicans don’t attack on it

Which unfortunately is to say, no, Obama despite having blood on his hands will not face any consequences

Too bad Donald Trump blew it with the birth certificate nonsense, someone like him could get the press talking

Walter Duranty is a good comparison to what’s going on in the media right now, which is a reason why conservatives should have pushed a greater understanding of what Duranty did.

We should have been pushing it for the last 7 decades, whenever and wherever school budgets and school elections come up.

Right now, I bet less than .01% of the population knows who he is... and maybe only a few percent of folks here in FR.

It does no question. But obama is a half breed, mulatto. People (politicians) are just plain scarred of this guy. Politicians for the most part are not leaders. Loud mouth lawyers stealing from all of us, with no care about the future, the country only getting re elected. When their tank is full, they move on.

Watergate wasn’t a good thing, but it certainly wasn’t treason.

President Nixon loved our country, Obama does not. Nixon wanted the best for our country and all of it’s people, Obama wants the worst.

Nope, Gunrunner/walker ain’t a Watergate, instead, it’s a mountain of Felony crimes, deception and death.

I don’t want Obama and Holder to resign, I want these white hating lowlife Black pieces of scum in prison. Of course, I won’t hold my breath.

This editorial is incorrect.

“Gunrunner” is a legit operation funded with Stimulus money.

“Fast and Furious” is the rogue operation that let straw buyers deliver arms to Mexican drug gangs. What they did was nicknamed “gunwalking.”

Confusing Gunrunner and the gunwalking in Fast & Furious will just detract from our credibility and make us seem like we don’t know what we’re talking about.

When I was in school in the 60's we used to laugh at anything in the Russian papers, Tass and Pravda, knowing full well it was nothing but propaganda. How ironic that fifty years later we must say the same about the Washington Post, NY Times, LA Times, SF Chronicle, Atlanta Constitution, etc., etc.

Over 1,400 ATF-walked guns are still “walking” around Mexico. At least another 200 “walked” into Honduras. When will the next one show up at a murder scene and where?

F&F was done out of the Phoenix ATF office under the umbrella of Gunrunner. They’re not synonymous but they are related. The funding came from the same place.

ATF’s Fast and Furious Seems Colored With Shades of Iran/Contra Scandal

The operation that has put Melson in the hot seat before Congress is known as Fast and Furious, which was launched in October 2009 as an offshoot of Project Gunrunner — ATF’s larger effort to stem the flow of illegal weapons into Mexico

Obama’s people sent straw buyers into Gun Shops in Arizona to buy weapons. Around 2,000 total. The ATF wasn't in on it and when a few agents tried to stop the guns from going over the border, they were told to stand down. These guns have been used in murders in Mexico and the USA. The Feds were terrified that one of these guns was the gun in the Tuscon shootings. None were used in Tuscon. The likely reason this was set up was to push through more gun control because guns were making their way to Mexico. These were supposed to be tracked but weren't. There has already been a Bill introduced for more gun control and they will cite this as the reason. Bogus.

Amen, a complete economic meltdown 1 month before the election and no one questions the timing ? Even when we find out that a huge run on the money markets over only a couple of hours triggered it ? This has Soros written all over it and not a peep about it from anyone. Scandal of the century.

There are three possible explanations, none of them very sensible or satisfying:

1) The DOJ claims it was done to lead them to some "big fish" in the cartels. Perhaps so, but in that case they were perversely inept.

2) Follow the money. Maybe somebody (cartels?) wanting weaponry in Mexico was paying off one or more of the major figures in F&F. Maybe the top F&F guys thought that because they were detached from ATF itself and working directly under the US Atty in Arizona, controls would be sloppy (the US Attorney not being familiar with ATF operational SOP) and blurred and they could get away with it. Seems a very high-risk strategy, with a nasty downside.

3) Some higher-ups wanted to exaggerate the # of weapons flowing from the US to Mexico and get Mexico more ticked off to further anti 2nd Amendment initiatives in the US. Also weird. From the lack of DOJ cooperation and vigor, it would seem 1) and 3) are the most likely.
