Fast And Furious Scandal: A Watergate For Obama?
IBD Editorial ^ | July 13, 2011 | Staff

Posted on 07/13/2011 4:21:30 PM PDT by Kaslin

Border: A 2-year-old video shows a high Justice official saying "the president has directed us," including the attorney general, to speed up Project Gunrunner and the offshoot that got a border agent killed.

This tape has no 18-minute gap, and while it does not feature the president himself, the March 24, 2009, video may rival the tape that turned a "third-rate burglary" into a presidential resignation. No one died at Watergate. Agent Brian Terry lost his life in the administration's obsessive pursuit of gun control.

In addition to Agent Terry, Immigration Customs Enforcement Agent Jaime Zapata was also killed in a separate incident by a weapon allowed to "walk" into Mexico from the U.S. as part of the administration's third-rate alleged attempt to track and catch gun traffickers.

The video shows Deputy Attorney General David Ogden, who would resign nine months later after less than a year's service, telling reporters at a Department of Justice briefing of major policy initiatives to fight the Mexican drug cartels.

"The president has directed us to take action to fight these cartels," Ogden begins, "and Attorney General Holder and I are taking several new and aggressive steps as part of the administration's comprehensive plan."

At the president's direction, Ogden said, the administration's plan included DOJ's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives "increasing its efforts by adding 37 new employees in three new offices, using $10 million in Recovery Act funds and redeploying 100 personnel to the Southwest border in the next 45 days to fortify its Project Gunrunner," of which Operation Fast and Furious would be a part.

They “tracked” them by looking at where they turned up at murder scenes in Mexico. Thousands of Mexicans are also dead, not just Agent Brian Terry.

Correct. Why is it our so-called news media never follow up on stories such as Trump’s atatement before Ubama released the supposed COLB that his (Trump’s) people were in Hawaii and had dug up all sorts of info?

The fact we’re reading this on IBD and not NYT means, no, this will not be the president’s Watergate. In my opinion, I could be wrong.

For this to be Watergate, the MEDIA would have to give a s***. The media doesn’t. Big Media NEVER cares about Demonrat corruption. Never.

Clinton’s perjury? Didn’t care. Dukakis’ lack of accomplishment in the ‘88 campaign? Avoided. Hussein’s failure and lack of experience? Silence.

But one Muslim terrorist gets panties put on his head, and the NY Slimes blames Bush for month after month on their front page, while network “news” programs follow suit.

Where are the media profiles of the innocent victim and their family? Oh, wait, Hussein’s team is responsible for the loss of innocent life? Never mind...we must not question Dear Reader.

“The likely reason this was set up was to push through more gun control because guns were making their way to Mexico.”

Only an irrational liberal would view this as a compelling reason for gun control, particularly in light of the ECONOMIC ASSAULT upon this country by Mexico, and the fact that almost 70% of foreign prisoners in US jails are Mexican.

Is there any (pissed) Chairman in Congress who wasn’t previously briefed about Fast and Furious who would like to get to the bottom of this using subpoena powers?

Not to compare apples and oranges but NOTW closed down in London for heinous bad judgement. BATF imho practiced heinous bad judgement times infinity. BATF needs to close down. When BATF fail, they fail big. I still remember Waco, and before that Ruby Ridge.

Ffs shut it down before they fail big, again. Transfer any of their significant duties (ie background checks) to Homeland Security.

The MSM doesn’t rule the agenda any more. Ask John Kerry, who experienced the old paradigm back in the early 70s, and the new paradigm when he ran for president as a “war hero.”

He got blown out of the water by the new media, despite the MSM’s loving attempted coverup.

Ditto Dan Rather and memogate, etc.

Walter Duranty is a good comparison to what’s going on in the media right now, which is a reason why conservatives should have pushed a greater understanding of what Duranty did.

Let's not forget CNN covering up Saddam Hussein's atrocities so as to maintain "access" to Iraq.

In both cases, journalists reported what tyrants wanted reported, in order to maintain "access".

Not entirely true. Bernstein is hot on the tail of Ruppert Murdoch in England for some reason.

http://www.newsweek.com/2011/07/10/murdoch-s-watergate.html

He even refers to Watergate—as if Murdoch is a governmental entity—when the real story is here in the U.S. with Fast & Furious.

Everybody seems blaming the MSM. Granted, they are complacent and enabling. However, it is not their sworn responsibility to execute support and defense of our Constitution and nation. It is misplaced anger that gives the MSM owner this responsibility to protect and support our Constitution and citizens.

The true culprits of the cover-up are our own spineless and negligent representatives elected to congress and to the office of president. It is the president's dereliction of duty in the formal sense and the Congress' dereliction of duty in the technical sense that allows this nation to go without their protection and defense and support. These are serious crimes and it is arguable that the U.S.A. declared war on Mexico when we sold guns to terrorists who are fighting the Mexican government for control.

The MSM have not sworn to uphold our Constitution, nor have they sworn to defend America against threats both foreign and domestic - the Oath of Office for Federal Officials.

The Oath of Office for all Federal Officials:

"Oath of Office

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

VOTE WITH VENGEANCE IN 2012!

No doubt they can dampen down a story, but in the end, they must carry it or lose all cred. Kerry’s story in 1971 compared to his race tells the tale. The MSM wanted to help him just as much the last time around, and tried to ignore the story, but they couldn’t.

Walter Duranty is a good comparison...
Walter Duranty (About 108,000 results)
Pulitzer-Winning Lies
AT LONG LAST a Pulitzer Prize committee is looking into the possibility that the Pulitzer awarded to Walter Duranty, the New York Times Moscow correspondent whose dispatches covered up Stalin's infamies, might be revoked.

Right now, I bet less than .01% of the population knows who he is... and maybe only a few percent of folks here in FR.
Some basic info and a link for curiosity's sake might raise the percentage.

As strange as it may seem, it’s not the ATF directly at fault this time. ATF’s rank and file and even some of their leadership was, surprisingly, screaming that this was an incredibly bad idea that was going to get people killed.

When even the BATFE is screaming that something is a horribly bad idea, it’s either really good or *really, really* bad. In this case, it wasn’t good.

Project Gunrunner was a legitimate if distasteful operation to stop US firearms purchased at retail from going to Mexico to aid the cartel uprising there. This was initiated under Bush.

However, Gunrunner never found the quantity of guns going to Mexico that many antigunners thought was the case. This was not surprising to anyone who had been paying attention as the cartels were mostly getting their weapons on the South American market, from the international arms market and from raided/defected Mexican military installations. Weapons used in this sting operation were equipped with tracking devices or were non-functional.

When Obama came into office, of course one of his priorities was gun control. When Gunrunner didn’t turn up the numbers he needed to justify additional gun control, he ordered them to “find” the numbers and (apparently) if they couldn’t do that they were to MAKE the numbers by ensuring the guns went to Mexico. Operation Fast and Furious was born as a subproject of Gunrunner to ensure that the Administration would have the numbers to ‘justify’ the agenda they wanted to pass.

F&F was basically an operation to sell guns to anyone who wanted them (criminal or not) and then wait for them to turn up at crime scenes in Mexico, for the Mexican authorities to ask the US to trace them. There was no tracking, no attempt to follow where the weapons were going. They also didn’t inform the Mexican government that this was happening. The number of “US guns used in Mexican crimes” that would be generated would be used to push more gun control.

This all backfired when a couple of Federal agents were killed by firearms sold in this operation. Think about it - no trackers, and they were *waiting for the guns to be used in crimes and recovered*. What does that tell you?

They sold about 2000 weapons in this program. We still have no idea where about 1400 of them are. Hundreds of Mexicans have been killed by F&F guns; at least one Mexican military chopper has been shot down, and some of the guns are now reappearing at US crime scenes. US citizens are being killed by this program.

The gun stores that sold these guns were screaming to the ATF that this was wrong, the ATF was screaming to the DOJ that this was wrong, and DOJ told everyone down the chain to just go ahead with it. Until the US government started F&F, US civilian guns were just a fraction of the weapons in use in Mexico. Now the biggest arms dealer to the cartels in Mexico... is the US Government. All thanks to Obama wanting numbers to support his policies, and he seems to have no problem if people die because of it.

There is also a parallel operation that has been discovered operating out of Florida, Operation Castaway. They were running guns to the leftists in Honduras, a nation we basically have had NO gun issues with in the past.

Ogden must have quit because he saw what was going to happen and he didn't want to face the music. Very damning and may this open up and expose these creatures of evil.
