To be fair, the national debt was not one of Reagan’s strong points. It went up under him more than any other President % wise. It tripled during his eight years.

And then the “Peace dividend” kicked in and spending really took off.

To be fair, Ronald Reagan had vision and a plan that the American people bought into. Neither Obama or the GOP can inspire the nation.

In Reagan's case at least we got something for the cost.

The downfall of the Soviet Union.

Now all we are getting is a black hole and nothing to show for it.

actually Reagan gave the dems their spending in exchange for funds to fight the cold war. Reagan saw the Russians as a clear and present danger. Much more so than heavy debt. The dems did not see the Russians as the threat Reagan saw them as.

The debt accrued in his time was nothing compared to today's circumstance. He wanted a balanced budget amendment and had to settle for Gramm-Rudman-Hollings as a means of controlling spending. Unfortunately the courts ruled the cuts formulas unconstitutional but sequestration actually worked for a time.

Don't pretend he wasn't concerned about debt.

We've had 20 years to reverse the trend and only accelerated. The debt is so far out of scale and scope now as to beyond comprehension. In the 80s we won the Cold War and got America back on its feet. What have we gotten for the debt piled up since? Nothing.

STOP FEEDING THE MORAL EQUIVALENCE LIE!
