A mother-of-two has been arrested after allegedly leaving her children in a baking hot car and then attacking a woman who tried to help them.

Heather Elliot told police she saw two boys, aged four and one, left unattended inside a car with the windows shut in the car park of a Kroger store in West Southport Road, Indianapolis.

But when she approached the boys' mother Heather Query, she claimed the 21-year-old began shouting at her and then punched her in the face.

Crazy eyes. Warning. Approach with caution, better yet, run.

Just a professional assesment from a guy that knows these things.

A lot of details missing from this story.

Had the mother just left the vehicle?
Was she on her way in to the store or on her way out?
Was the mother making a U-turn to retrieve the kids after realizing her mistake?
Were these kids screaming because of the heat or were they being brats and is it their habit to scream whenever they don't get their way?

All valid questions I think.
With all these types of stories in the news of late, it is just as likely that the kids were in no danger and Heather Elliot was being a busy-body who perceived herself the hero of the moment. As I said...many details missing here.

If they were alone in the car, and unattended... how did the mother see the woman “approaching” and if I thought someone was trying to steal my kids... I’d attack them too!

"Maybe she DIDN”T try to kill her kids. Why her response then????"

Cuz someone was trying to tell HER what to do, and we can't have that now, can we. I remember a couple of years ago, I was shopping at Target, and came across a child, probably no more than 6 or 7, all alone in a aisle. I asked her where her mother was, and she said, "Over there". Well, her mother was 2 aisles over, her view completely blocked from her child. I went over to her and calmly mentioned that it might not be a good idea to let her child be so far away from her. I just barely finished speaking, and she started screaming at me to mind my own business, SHE knew what she was doing, SHE had it under control, etc. I just backed away (didn't want to turn my back on her), and left. What can ya do? I probably should have taken the child by the hand and led her away for a few minutes to see what the mother would do when she couldn't find her child. But, I know how that would go.

Had a rather similar thing happen recently outside of a grocery store. We came upon several people who were trying to open a locked car with an elderly lady inside. The woman was not responding, but appeared to be in some distress. It was hot out, and the car was locked up but the sunroof was partially open.
A youngish couple and a couple of the grocery store workers were trying to figure out how to get the car open, as the old woman did seem to be very hot and could not communicate (it was difficult to tell if she was unresponsive because she was just always like that or if she was in distress.)
The grocery store made an announcement and about the time someone was able to get the car open (via the sunroof) a young woman came out, was very angry at all of us, said it was her Grandmother (I think she was a caregiver, she just didn’t look like the woman’s granddaughter and we live in an area where it’s very common for people to hire caregivers for the elderly but I have no proof of that) and drove quickly away. In hindsight I wish I had gotten a license number and reported it. That old woman was clearly not able to get out of the car on her own if she WAS in distress so she should never have been left alone in a locked car like that.
On the other hand, it was heartening to see people, both strangers and store employees so caring about a stranger.

But, I know how that would go.

Oh yeah. Better off just watching the kind via peripheral vision from a safe distance. Just to ensure the kid's ok until Grizzly Mom decides to forage back towards her cub.

I agree it is not clear at all if she had already been in the store, or why they say the kids were “unattended”, yet the 2 Heathers confronted each other. Clearly 88 degrees is too hot to leave them for any period of time - who knows if the mom would be delayed in the store, even if she only thought it would be a minute. But then regardless of the weather, these kids are too young to be left alone locked up anyway! She’s an idiot.

Another question would be the ages of the two children. The mom was 21.

Let’s say she had the first kid at 16 (to be generous). That would make the oldest kid 6, and the youngest kid anywhere from a few months to 5 years old.

This idiot is lucky her kids were NOT harmed, and she became the next mother-who-killed-her-kids-in-a-hot-car.

People amaze me quite often.

If you come upon children left in a car is it wise to just go on your merry way “tra,la, la, las, la, la”?
