A poster about sexual assault displayed on the U.S. Navys Facebook page is causing quite a stir. Titled Sexual Assault Prevention Tips, the poster advises readers not to assault anyone.
When you see somebody walking by themselves, leave them alone! it reads. If you pull over to help someone with car problems, remember not to assault them!
The poster doesnt stop there.
USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM! If you are not able to stop yourself from assaulting people, ask a friend to stay with you while you are in public, the poster continues. Dont forget, you cant have sex with somebody unless they are awake!
Some Facebook posts are meant to be humorous or sarcastic, but this is the U.S. Navy. Reactions to the posters 10 tips were harsh, with many seeming to believe it was a joke. The Navy says it was not.
[B]eyond stupid juvenile read one of the 258 comments. Wow, I had no idea
What a [bleeping] joke! If Conan doesnt have a field day with this one,
Admiral Wm. F. Halsey, 7 Dec 1941
Whoever thought that one up should be tossed overboard. Of course, they are one of the beach bound brigade so tossing them overboard means pushing them off their chair as they are nothing more than Remington Raiders.
Wow...There's an expression I haven't heard for years.
I think you just gave a hint as to your age.
Homosexual assaults of military personel within the ranks is at an astronomical high,
and I bet this group has nothing to say about that.
Liberals have infected every part of society which explains the position the United States finds itself in right now.
I would not be surprised. I haven’t heard of that, but it’s to be expected that will be more acceptable to this group.
Older and wiser now I guess.
Would have said REMFs but in the spirit of the feminist agenda, did not wish to hurt anyone’s feelings.
So they think if you rape somebody it’s because you carelessly forgot you shouldn’t?
Some more info here:
Every day I pass a bilboard on I-75 that says, as if it were some new revelation:
“SEX WITHOUT CONSENT IS RAPE!”
Thanks for clearing that up.
Actually, I'd be tempted to approach "them" and ask how "they" qualified for a plural pronoun all by "themselves."
Or if they have invisible friends.
Or if they majored in Oxymoron.
This is part of the eternal idea that “The answer is education.”
I teach Ethics CE classes to insurance agents occasionally, and the curriculum seems to be based on the theory that the students just weren’t aware you’re not supposed to lie, cheat or steal.
Education will take care of that! No more unethical behavior!
I suspect though, that the folks who promote this particular poster would also be more understanding of homosexual assault in the military, much like the blind eye that is often turned on "certain" hate crimes.
It's just part of an agenda.
Well if the supposed “lessons” are based on ridiculous premises, quit teaching them.
This is the kind of tortuous grammer you get if you can't use the "sexist" appropriate term. When you see somebody walking by herself, leave her alone!
They pay me.
I would have no problem using a neutral pronoun that means “him or her.” Unfortunately, English doesn’t have such a pronoun.
Maybe we will develop one. We did, after all, get Ms. generally accepted.
But, unfortunately, not particularly new.
In 1988, when I reported to Ft. Sill (Oklahoma) for Artillery Officer training, I walked into the restroom of the Officer Student Battalion (OSB) building and was immediately confronted with a poster on the wall.
A large finger was pointed directly at me, with the words, “Rape. Don’t Even Think About It.” in large print.
It was still there in 1991.
Yep, that’s what the DOD and The Army think of me.
SEX WITHOUT CONSENT IS RAPE!
Thanks for clearing that up.
Not really, though - they don't specify that BOTH parties have to consent.
When dealing with dumber and dumber people, one must "dummy-proof" every statement.
“We already know what you are. We’re only negotiating the price.”
I cannot be bought.
I can, however, be rented for a wide variety of legal and ethical activities.
Teaching stupid classes is neither illegal nor unethical. Not very productive, to be sure, but then I’m not the one that passed the law mandating agents attend the classes. I sneak in actual discussion of genuine ethical issues, including its history and philosophy, when I can.
It’s actually quite interesting when you can get a discussion going. Most people have never really had a serious discussion about ethics and where the line should be drawn in a specific case between ethical and unethical behavior.
This is not, technically, accurate.
Although if they sleep through it (as opposed to being passed out), you may be doing it wrong.
I would not rent my time for something whose subtext is an oxymoron.
In boot camp they basically prepare them to be fleet sailors, not naval infantry, a role served quite nicely by US Marines. After boot camp sailors go off to A school to learn the specialties they will pursue.
Some guys (sorry, showing my age again), er, folks learn to repair boilers, some folks learn to repair sophisticated electronic weapons systems. Some learn to launch planes off the deck of a pitching ship, some becomes Seals and get to kill bad people.
If you're going to have a need to use an assault rifle, don't worry, they teach you how to use it.
Obama Lawyers Seek to Re-Impose Dont Ask, Dont Tell
No surprise, coming from a Navy that is “...a global force for good...”.
Can't help but wonder if you realize how little sense that makes to anyone who did not attend your particular Cub Scout camp...
***...they are nothing more than Remington Raiders.***
LOL! In the Air Force we called men working in administration “Titless WAFs”.
LOL... well, that's pretty much my story too, except that mine involved not only being a complete screw-up in college, but actually flunking out, joining the Navy, and then later going back to college using the GI Bill, older and wiser as the result of time served.
