"We want to change the system here," House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) told a news conference on Friday. "We want to be able to go home to the people who elected us and show them that we're not going to allow this kind of spending to continue. We don't have the money -- they don't have the money."
Cantor said Republicans will bring up a bill next week -- the "Cut, Cap and Balance" bill -- "So that we can demonstrate that we are getting things under control and that the people who put us here can gain some confidence that we're going to begin to live like they do around their kitchen tables and in their businesses -- stop spending money we don't have and begin to manage this debt and deficit down to balance."
Cantor said Republicans hope "that our Democratic friends" will join them in their "balanced approach."
House Speaker John Boehner told the news conference it’s time for Democrats to get serious. He noted the House has passed budgets and “set the standard for serious debate.”
“No one wants the United States to default on our obligations,” Boehner said. “But we won’t see real economic growth without a serious plan to deal with our deficit and our debt.”
Boehner said tax hikes destroy jobs; and the nation needs “real spending cuts.”
“Listen, we’re in the fourth quarter here. Time and again, Republicans have offered serious proposals to cut spending and address these issues. And I think it’s time for the president to get serious as well. We asked him to put forward a plan – not a speech – a real plan, and he hasn’t. We will.”
As CNSNews.com previously reported, the Cut, Cap and Balance pledge commits lawmakers to oppose any increase in the debt limit unless substantial cuts in spending are made to reduce the deficit next year, enforceable spending caps are enacted to put the federal government on the path to a balanced budget, and Congress passes a constitutional balanced budget amendment that permanently limits federal spending and requires a supermajority for enacting tax increases.
BHO has nothing to do with a constitutional amendment. Once it passes both houses it’s up to the states. He can be as opposed to it as he wants to be but if it passes Congress and the states it’s the law.
A President can’t veto a constitutional amendment.

Correcto. Plus Cantor wants Boehner’s Speakership. These guys do not like each other. Doesn’t a balanced budget amendment have to be passed by 2/3 of the states? How many years would that take, if ever?

I agree with you. Even if the bill is destined to be voted down, it shows people that there actually is at least one part of government that is attempting to rein in this juggernaut. We will pay the price for the debt at a point in the not too distant future. The democrats are going to bring about destruction if they’re not stopped.

Didn’t realize they intend it as an amendment. That just makes it even less likely a Democrat Senate would pass such a thing.
Actually, they might.
If Obama and the dems really believe they have the right side of the argument then the amendment is a great deal for them.
It raises the ceiling without them having to give up anything. And if they’re right, the amendment will just go nowhere in the states and they’ll never have to give up anything.
Then the dems could say “we put in the hands of the people and they rejected it, it’s not out fault”.
Basically it would be a huge bet by both sides on where the public is. The GOP would be betting they’re for the amendment and the dems would be betting against.
I’d take my chances with that
Dear Marco, I've been an avid supporter of yours for a long time and am pleading for you to ask your fellow Senators to take a tough stance against the Administration.
This country is in a death spiral, and without Republican tough love in cutting spending, capping the budget and eliminating regulations choking off business, our Republic is doomed.
Please help John Boehner and Mitch McConnell find a spine.

You better start contacting some Conservative Senators and Congressmen then. I’ve sent emails to Cantor, McConnell, Boehner, and Rubio. DeMint and Bachmann already know the score and are fighting the fight.
