House turns off light bulb standards by voice vote
The Politco ^ | July 15, 2011 | DARREN GOODE

The House on Friday morning moved to block federal light bulb efficiency standards without even a roll call vote.

An amendment from Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) defunding the Energy Department's standards for traditional incandescent light bulbs to be 30 percent more energy efficient starting next year was approved rather anticlimactically by voice vote.

The success of the amendment appeared inevitable in the House, where the fate of the incandescent light bulb became a symbol in the fight against federal regulations.

Democrats and the White House have opposed the move to block the standards, which were included in a 2007 energy bill signed by President George W. Bush. DOE has said the standards could save consumers $6 billion a year.

Not done yet. The Senate could and probably will kill it.

There must be something that the Senate wants to include in the 2012 Energy Dept. spending bill that the House GOP can hold hostage. We let that go and if they let this go.

Are you bleeping me? Dingy Harry will never let this bill come to a vote in the Senate. And if by some miracle he did, President Obama would surely veto it.

Maybe if you have to buy those squiggly lights the next big rally in D.C. would have people throwing them on the capitol steps. Or over the fence at the WH ... what are they going to do? Arrest a million people?

Who knows? The EPA and the Sierra Club run the Dems energy policies. They still believe that Global Warming aka climate change is the biggest threat facing this country. Other countries like Germany have already eliminated the incadescent bulb.

Here’s another article about this in which the author thinks this will be go through...but, it only holds for the 2012 budget year.

***The House on Friday morning moved to block federal light bulb efficiency standards without even a roll call vote.****

The companies could repackage the bulbs as 100W HEAT GENERATORS. Suitable for small spaces to prevent frozen pipes, warm baby chicks and other animals.

WARNING! IT IS A VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW TO USE THIS HEAT GENERATOR (Formerly known as a light bulb) FOR LIGHTING PURPOSES!

Believe it or not. This is what the GOP should run on. Not changing social security in 20 years. They are truly stupid.

Does this mean I can quit worrying about the stupid curly bulbs in whose light I can’t tell colors apart?

You can purchase compact fluorescent bulbs in identical color temperatures as incandescent bulbs.

Darn!! I have stocked up enough to last me, my children, and grandchildren, the rest of our lives, plus enough to have made some good money selling real light bulbs on the black market after the ban.

Me too! I have hundreds of bulbs stocked away. But since stores have slashed their supply of incandescents and we don't make them in America anymore, we now have stashes of rare, better quality incandescents.

Plus, keep your filaments dry. You never know how the environazis might try again.

DOE has said the standards could save consumers $6 billion a year.

Eliminate the DOE. Fire all Federal parasites that work at the DOE. How much would that save? These un-Constitutional Departments and their parasite employees deserve to suffer.

The pain and suffering brought on by government at all levels is destroying our Republic and crushing the spirit of hard working Americans. It's about time the government class (i.e. parasites) have the stress of unemployment thrown into their laps.

The richest counties in America are around D.C. They are rich not because they earned it. Quite the contrary. They are rich because they pass laws to STEAL from the rest of the citizenry.

To add insult, the government class does not stop at stealing, no. They take joy in creating endless rules and regulations to control every aspect of our lives. You see, they are smarter and better than "regular" Americans.

I pray this insanity will start to end, starting January 21, 2013.

I know you meant that ironically, but something like that really happened a couple of decades ago. The product involved was childrens' sleepwear.

Anybody else remember the federal regulation that demanded that all children had to wear "flame retardant" sleepwear?

This meant parents had no choice but to buy "TRIS" treated clothing, if they wanted their kids to have jammies and nighties. (TRIS was a flame retarding chemical.)

And all-cotton pajamas for children was banned! Too "dangerous"!

To get around this idiotic regulation, a few brave small retailers marketed all-cotton pajamas as "underwear" or "playsuits." They had to put labels on them like yours...

"WARNING! IT IS A VIOLATION OF FEDERAL LAW TO USE THIS CLOTHING AS SLEEPWEAR FOR CHILDREN."

Oh, and the best part was this: TRIS was found to be carcinogenic (just like mercury in those curly lightbulbs is poisonous).

There's no $6 billion to save. Never was. The EPA/Energy estimate was based on the idea that every light in a home was 100 Watt and burned 24/7.

Of course that idea is garbage.

I think the person who did the analysis for the agencies should be identified and rendered up for a thorough caning in the Well of the House!

Voice vote? I get the feeling that they are more afraid of the environazis than they are of the tea party people. We need to fix that.

I have fatigue problems under the flicker of fluorescents.
A coworker has severe headaches unless she turns them off.

Somehow, I don’t see this getting through Reid’s Senate or Obama’s desk.

But good for the House...2010 did wake them up.

I recommend that you take a box of these poisonous mercury squiggly bulbs to your congress critter’s office in August and ‘accidentally’ drop and break them in the waiting area. See what happens....
