Regulatory Commissars: Ethanol Under Fire
Patriot Post.US ^ | July 15, 2011 | Patriot Post Editorial Team

The ethanol lobby is fighting to save its beloved subsidy in the face of growing opposition to the corn-based fuel. Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) recently solicited views from 14 automakers about the effect of E15, a gas blend with 15 percent ethanol, that the EPA recently endorsed for vehicles manufactured after 2001. The 14 automakers, including Ford, Chrysler, Mazda, Toyota, and others, unanimously rejected E15, noting that it would harm engines, reduce fuel efficiency, and cause damage that would not be protected under warranty because the use of E15 would be considered misfueling.

The EPA, however, is stubbornly sticking to its endorsement of E15 in a recent House Science, Space and Technology subcommittee hearing. Margo Oge, director of the EPA's Office of Transportation and Air Quality, rejected the automakers' knowledge of their own products, and insisted the fuel was safe, saying the EPA had a "strong technical basis" for its decision. Other witnesses flatly rejected her take on the matter, and some claimed that the EPA improperly manipulated its data to fit its stance. (The ends always justify the means with leftists.) An interesting side note: GM was not among the 14 automakers that rejected E15. They're just fine with the mandate, but we suppose that's what one should expect from Government Motors.

A lot of GMs can run on E85 (been this way for years).
So there would be no technical problem with E15.

Actually it is a simple matter of fuel flow, it takes more corn liquor to produce the power of a smaller amount of gas. But it is still crap fuel.

E85 is 96 octane. Some of the drag race guys are using it as cheap race gas.

My SIL runs it in his Impala. He claims it’s cost effective on the lower mileage vs lower cost/gal tradeoff.

Here in corn country (Indiana) they sell it everywhere.

This is how the communist intend to deprive us of our freedom of movement.

They will mandate “Fuel” that most cars cannot burn, either buy a new car or lose the ability to drive.

They may play at sweetening the deal via a variation on “Cash For Clunkers”, but their goal is to take control of every facet of our lives and force us into the cattle c, um public transit.

Of course “Public Transit” is either impractical or unavailable in much of our country.
So of course they have to push high speed rail and other money losing boondoggles as alternatives to private transport.
That they and their pals will reap huge contracts to build and run the “New” and “Green” projects will be claimed to be coincidence.

In order to make their utopian mass transit appear practical they have to force us all into the cities, no more rural lifestyle!

Sedition is what this is, pure sedition!

All of the instructions I have for engine driven equipment states that the engines are NOT designed to burn E15 ethanol.

Weed eaters, chainsaws, tractor, ect.

Please show me where in the United States Constitution such actions (ethanol subsidies/mandates) are allowed? It is irrelevant that your cars all run great. You present what is called a non-sequitur. So, by your logic, your cars run great, therefore Ethanol is ok!

Ethanol would NOT exist without the taxpayers being forced to subsidize it (subsidies/mandates).

Nobody would suggest that you would.

The question at hand is

does the lower price of E85 offset the higher consumption per mile

A perfect example of government out of control. Let the market place decide.

Lol, there is nothing like a post to tell what one knows and what one does not know. There is a alcohol divisions in the NHRA, has been for as long as I can remember. Damn, I had three drag cars back in the eighties, still have my 66 mustang sitting in the barn. And no alcohol is not cost effective, it takes more to produce the same amount of power, and the heat exchange effect is different, that is the motor damage part. The so called flex fuel bs put out by gm is just that, bs, you just require larger jets and/or injectors to run alcohol, but the drag boys play with valve timing as well as, cam overlap duration and lift. Several of the current top fuel guys started out running alcohol rails. Stop by john force office in brownsville, Indiana and visit with him,

It’s Brownsburg.

If you’re such an authority, you can at least get the location right, LOL.

Have you priced high octane leaded race gas lately?
