City Transportation Services Director Wayne Yoshioka says the city is not setting a precedent by moving a Kapiolani bus stop because of complaints about a homeless woman who had taken up residence at the shelter near Keeaumoku Street.
The city received complaints from bus riders who didn't like having to wait for the bus near the homeless woman, who has hygiene issues.
Tessie Cadelina, 66, who catches the bus daily to and from work, said Thursday, "I no like sit down if the lady stay there. The smell."

Atlanta public school education victim.
Evidently the ‘homeless’ lady is not so homeless.
If I had to be homeless somewhere, Hawaii wouldn’t be so bad. I love the beach and could sleep on the beach every night of the year.
Hose her down and move her to a bus stop near the zoo. She’ll blend right in.
Why doesn't the homeless woman take up residence at the Governor's Mansion? I'm sure it's much nicer there, and they have showers.
I mean if public facilities are not allowed to be dedicated to a specific purpose, why not?

Nothing a fire hose wouldn’t cure.
When I deposited my mother at that bus stop a couple years ago, I felt it was an ideal location for her to meet more people and enjoy her retirement years. Also, she stunk up my carport.
If those of you complaining would only treat your family with as much care and love as I do (I stop by at least twice a week with McDouble cheeseburgers and handi-wipes), you might be more likely to understand the desire for alternative living arrangements of today's ecologically sensitive seniors. She is living off the land and loving every minute of it, and I fully support her individuality. Except when she is defecating in discarded coffee cups, that is just gross.
LOL....Me too!
I can’t think of a better place to be homeless.
San diego not a bad spot either....
State 2 is accompanied by all kinds of excuses and fingerpointing at various boogiemen. See Vast Right Wing Conspiracy for more on this.
When I was a kid in the 60s there were no homeless. You could go anywhere downtown and not be bothered. Then, the ACLU sued during the Carter administration and forced all people being held in mental institutions without their consent to be released; instant homeless problem. The vast majority of the homeless have mental issues that prevent them from being productive members of society. But they cant be institutionalized unless theyre a danger to themselves or others. Now, the mandated costs of institutionalization make it unlikely anybody will be institutionalized even for the 2 week detox period officials used from the Reagan administration until the present. It just cost too many taxpayer dollars. So, people who are incredibly dangerous simply do damage until they get put into the prison system; where they remain dangerous but temporarily out of action.
The main public library downtown has a full-time armed police guard who patrols every corner of all four floors continuously. There have been rapes, muggings and all manner of assaults. They cant kick the homeless out until the library closes. The librarians told me they wont go into some areas without the cop. The homeless pee and poop in the corners. This problem mostly exists because theres a homeless shelter a block away.

In practice, this statement becomes "but they can't be institutionalized until they kill at least one person."

Bar of soap. tub of water, chain gang from the local or county jail. Problem solved.
I’ve heard that, but it’s a bit too close to the border for my liking. ;>)
Well, you can wash them up once but they just keep pooping.
The guy ended up pleading to the attempted rape charges and got 7-10. If they'd locked him up after he burned down the cabin, this wouldn't have happened.
And that was right after being nearly shocked out of my seat when we went through the TUNNEL and found out those were not black tiles!
Yes, people forget.
Move her to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave,The Smell would be no problem there and the Obamas have made that into a crack Den.
Is this woman your mother-in-law or something?
One of my friends is a doctor's nurse and she told me that last week her doctor was called in to remove several paper clips and a plastic spoon from the stomach of a homeless man. this is the third time this guy has swallowed metal objects. He does not have insurance and she said he is probably doing it to obtain the pain medication, or maybe he is just crazy.
“THE SMELL” makes the mind wander in places it don’t want to go...

About 25 years ago there was a homeless man in Tampa named Billy Ferry. His family had begged civic authorities to get him help. He was violent and abusive. Hed committed numerous crimes but kept getting out. One day he got a gallon bucket, filled it with gasoline and walked into a crowded supermarket. He slung the gas over the waiting queues and lit it. If I recall about 20 people eventually died of their burns and I dont know how many were scarred. Finally, they put Billy away.
His family had significant documentation showing he should have been committed long before he killed so many people and the family had kept track of the number of visits theyd made to various agencies seeking help. There were two issues; the liberal its not the homeless fault and the fact that it costs money to put people into the hospital systems.
Oh, it's worse than that. Many liberals believe that the mayhem these people cause is deserved by society. They actually enjoy seeing the pain and destruction that insane homeless people inflict on the innocent.
Hawaii is one of the few places in the US where being homeless isn’t all that tragic.
There is potable water and showers at all the beaches; mango trees are fairly plentiful; a considerable amount of tourism where some offering of manual labor is marginably compensated, and the moderate tropical climate allows year-round living outdoors. No worries about freezing to death or suffering from heat exhaustion.
With a little imagination, fishing isn’t that infeasible from nearby the shores.
On the other hand, if you are homeless and jobless in Hawaii, it’s alot more costly to make it out of the area without becoming a stowaway.
If the woman has a problem with hygiene, it isn’t due to lack or nonavailability of facilities. Every beach has public showers, accessible even at night, and the ocean swim in waste deep waters is also very accessible, then a rinse in the shower, even wearing clothes.
Well when I was a kid there were homeless, they were called hobos or bums. We lived by a large field that train tracks ran through. They used to camp out in the field at night. Our parents told us ‘stay away’ but when they were not looking we would go out there. They were all very nice to us and would even offer us beans from their pot.
Couldn’t do that today.

A liberal group operates a homeless shelter in the middle of the capital city; three blocks from the capital building. This shelter brings the homeless like a bird feeder brings birds. Its only open at night, so during the day the homeless go in search of drugs, money, food and whatever they can steal. Id venture to say 70-80% of the downtown crime is caused by the homeless. Several times the city has offered to supply a huge, modern building, acreage, amenities and numerous incentives to move the shelter to a rural area. The shelter owners have said, We want it downtown where the homeless are in everybodys faces every day. We want the homeless problem solved once and for all.
First, the people behind this live mostly in gated communities. Second, the homeless problem is not something that can be solved. Theyre homeless because they (mostly) have severe mental issues; drug and alcohol abuse being top symptoms. Personally, if I were the prosecutor, Id be looking for ways to make the people running the shelter accessories to the crimes theyre enabling. But, the prosecutor who has been in office over 40 years is a liberal.
Why are you picking on Atlanta? This person could have been educated almost anywhere in the U.S. Besides, this took place in Hawaii.
No, Hawaiian semi-pidgin. Nothing to do with ebonics.
The law the ACLU was using was a John F. Kennedy law emptying the mental institutions.
LOL, good one.
Thanks for the laugh.
Good heavens, where do you live????
They relieve themselves in the corners? Does the library not have bathrooms?
I don’t understand.
LOL. Sounds more like “no tickee, no laundry”

"It's a joke, son."
I had a boss many years ago who grew up in St. Louis. He said in the late 40s and 50 the police beat patrols would whack the bums sleeping in doorways across the soles of their feet with nightsticks to keep them moving and head for the “outskirts.” That tended to solve the problem, too. Civil society was MUCH more civil in that era. Now the public square in many parts of the nation is a true cesspool.

Tallahassee. This isnt a bathroom problem, its a mental issue. Last time I was in Tampa the ground floor of the downtown library had become a homeless center. The remote corners stunk of urine. That was 30 years ago and Ive never been back to an in-town library since: except for a quick run-through in Tallahassee. I decided Id never go back there either.
When I was in the Smithsonian several years ago, I told a guard that a homeless person was peeing on one of the cases. He rolled his eyes and told me; Unless I see it myself I cant throw them out. Even if I do, they just come back in. We cant throw them out until we close. This is a public building and theyre the public. Thats the law.
That’s what I thought. Lots of Hawaiians talk like that. Usually the compassionate liberal reporter “cleans up” the quote so it appears as though the speaker is using the King’s English. Notice how you NEVER see a news report that accurately transcribes how Obama really speaks? There’s never a “ah, ah ah...let me be ah clear...ah...the republicans are... ah going to take your social security...ah... away.”
>If I had to be homeless somewhere, Hawaii wouldnt be so bad. I love the beach and could sleep on the beach every night of the year.<
Then you’ll love it here in Santa Monica, CA..

Which library? Our Central library in L.A. is like that. The architecture is comparable to NY’s. When it opens at 10 am, you will find the security guards walking to each of the 9 floors and waking up the bums at 11 am. They take over the couches, the cubicles etc..
It’s a couple of blocks away from Skid Row but located in the financial district. And people will think of me as racist when I say this, they’re all black. Not even mexican..

The only two downtown libraries Im familiar with are in Tallahassee and Tampa. I dont go to either because of the homeless. Actually, Im beginning to think its time to get rid of libraries. We live in the information age. I can either buy the book I want for next to nothing on Amazon.com or just download the factoid I need. Is it worth paying the librarys operating costs and the pension costs? I think not as libraries have become babysitting services and hostels for the homeless; neither of which taxpayers should pay for. Actually, I think we could get rid of 50-90% of government and wed all be better off.
Yes folks, it WAS that bad..till Rudy cleaned it up. We forget..
I'd vote for Rudy for a job of cleaning poop from between parked cars but not for POTUS.
It's fashionable among some to look down their noses at anything southern, Atlanta is southern.......
Maybe I’ll just become a gypsy and live on different beaches all over the country.
Yes.
