Rupert Murdoch's empire must be dismantled Ed Miliband

Labour leader urges for new media ownership rules saying News Corporation chief has too much power in the UK.

( Ed Miliband) has demanded the breakup of Rupert Murdoch's UK media empire in a dramatic intervention in the row over phone hacking.

n an exclusive interview with the Observer, the Labour leader calls for cross-party agreement on new media ownership laws that would cut Murdoch's current market share, arguing that he has "too much power over British public life".

Miliband says that the abandonment by News International of its bid for BSkyB, the resignation of its chief executive, Rebekah Brooks, and the closure of the News of the World are insufficient to restore trust and reassure the public.

The Labour leader argues that current media ownership rules are outdated, describing them as "analogue rules for a digital age" that do not take into account the advent of mass digital and satellite broadcasting.

Typical Leftist comment. On the other hand, I don’t much care what happens to Murdoch, let the market decide. It might be really healthy for example, if Fox News were spun off as a separate company. I don’t think Rush would need NFL approval to invest in such a deal, for example, or an investment bank could probably buy it, take it public in a years or two and double it’s money.

Yes, exactly.

Leftist media outlets have stolen information, leaked and manipulated data for years and nothing ever happens to them as a whole.

The News of the World was an old-line tabloid that did what reporters always used to do...in something that was not of national security interest, btw, unlike all the things leaked in the Guardian and the New York Times...and went out looking for personal interest scoops in a very uncontrolled area.

I knew somebody who had worked as a photographer for the NY Daily News back in the 1950s. This was still a time when a reporter would go up to the door of some woman whose husband had just been killed in a mob rub-out or was a police officer killed in the line of duty that day and ask, “Are you the Widow So-and-So?” This would be the first moment she had even heard of the killing and found out that her husband was dead, and it was his job to take a picture as she screamed and fainted on the doorstep.

Only if they dismantle ALL monopolies and control of press by the Soros-Marxists and eliminate government control of all media. Murdoch is fighting against a monolith of government indoctrination controlled by billionaire Marxist bankers and Soros-types.

Most Hollywood is nothing but propaganda pawns for the Marxist cabal. They insert their sick, dysfunction promotions in all their tripe. Even some of the few excellent products they may produce on occasion contains that bit of propaganda and conditioning which tries to force on the masses the acceptance of the Big Lie.

Mass media is all about marketing ideas and conditioning people into being consumers —not only of products, but of worldview. Be very careful of what ideas your children are picking up. Hollywood uses sophisticated psychology to make people believe good is evil and what you have to buy to be “happy”. Media is designing your precious children into becoming mindless apes who value emotions only, and have no intellectual knowledge and are devoid of knowledge of history so there is no way to be rational.

Marxism is irrational and that is why they created Political Correctness—to destroy debate of ideas...so they can namecall and end the Truth which proves their ideology stinks and never works and makes slaves of all.

Yes, they want to silence Murdoch—he goes off of the reservation way too often but they have been trying to destroy him for decades...like Rush....like Beck...like Savage....anyone who has even a modicum of truth....cuz Truth usually makes sense and people see through the Big Lie and the Matrix that they have set up this last one hundred years! They fear Truth and knowledge.

From everything I’ve seen the use of term “phone hacking” is deceptive at best. It sounds like they simply tried a couple of common factory installed voice mail codes. (always set up your own phone) From watching some of the parliamentary hearings, I got the impression that such behavior is very common among british media.

I do fault these reporters for erasing the voicemails to make room for more.

I agree; I think they’re overstating the case somewhat.

It wasn’t a good practice, but I’d bet that the News of the World was not the only tabloid, either in England or in Europe, that was doing this. Some of the tabs that cover “the royals” are very fond of stunts like this.

It’s sort of like verbal paparazzi taken to another level.

Hogwash-0-rama. This all about Obama. Nothing more, nothing less.
It’s time for the party apparatchiks to take down Fox news. The Soviets in Britain are beginning the process. This has all the earmarks of a show trial. It will be here, to at least, muddy the waters, if not totally take down an opposing voice just in time for a certain election of a certain demi-god who currently occupies the throne that rests upon the commanding heights from whence he glowers down upon us ants in order to bid us which load to carry and where to march.

I don’t totally disagree, but there are several empires that need to go. One thing I don’t like is that every news source under the sun takes AP, UPI, and Reuters “news” and just runs with it like it’s fact. They control the world, their recycled garbage litters the pages of every newspaper in the world—including Fox News.

Fox News is so horrible in the eyes of libs because they have a few commentators that are conservative. The fact is, 98% of their news is the same recycled AP/UP/Reuters crap that everybody else puts out.

The leftist jackals smell blood and they are howling into the night. Murdoch has always been a thorn in their side and they see this as a golden opportunity to destroy his power by ‘dismantling’ his media conglomerate. I agree that George Soros could well be behind this, although the left wouldn’t need much of a push to go after Murdoch. Of course, the ultimate target would be Fox News, which Obama likely loathes. While hardly the conservative/Republican network the left always claims, Fox does offer both sides of political issues, has conservative as well as liberal guests and employs a few conservative hosts such as Shaun Hannity. Leftists like Obama don’t want a ‘dialogue’, they want total control of the media. Fox News - and Rupert Murdoch stand in his way, so they are being targeted. They will survive.

Just the first step in demonizing Ruppert Murdoch, ultimately closing down Fox News as we see it today!

Today on the Sunday shows, I think it was Dicky Durban calling for the FBI and FCC to investigate Fox News and News Corp's U.S. papers, take away Murdoch's broadcast licenses, perhaps take his business and maybe see him jailed.

Despite the fury overseas the problems have been confined to just ONE single paper which has been shut down.

Where were the calls to take down Ted Turner when CNN's bogus Tailwind story happened? What about then GE-owned NBC's fraudulently rigged exploding cars? How about Viacom and the Dan Rather's fake memos in an attempt to prevent W's reelection? That's not even scratching the surface of media fraud and scandals.

Why is it all of Murdoch's empire under assault for activity of one foreign paper?

The outrage, particularly in the U.S., is all out of proportion with the facts and investigation undertaken in the UK. This is all about ideology.
