Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has placed utmost importance on secrecy, carefully offering only scraps of information about his condition
Maria Teresa Romero, a professor of international studies at the Central University of Venezuela, said controlling information about Chavez's illness is important for him both to secure his hold on power in Venezuela and in his United Socialist Party of Venezuela.
