Dems must try to recast his job creation in Texas

"Conservatives hail it and liberals dispute the story, but one thing is certain about the Lone Star State's employment success: The number is real":

LA Times - Texas - The Job Engine [LA Times OpEd - July 3, 2011] "....At the same time — and this, of course, is the tough part for those on the left to swallow — it is clear that the state's limits on taxes, regulations and lawsuits are contributing to the job machine. "The most important thing I think that's happened to us is tort reform," Fisher, the Dallas Fed president, has said. He added that when John Deere and other companies have decided to hire in Texas, they've been largely driven by steps the state has taken to cap non-economic damages in medical malpractice suits and to make it harder to bring product liability and class-action cases..."

What of the Texas budget?

Texas spending kept rising for years with Perry as governor ***Really? Not so fast with the spin!! Even Bret Baier got this wrong last night on "Special Report."

What of TX Education?

Perry's education record distinctly different from Bush's

Higher Education Coalition attack on [Texas Gov. Rick] Perry raises eyebrows

[Texas Education Agency] TEA to lay off 178 workers [Thousands of pink slips for state workers] [great Freeper discussion about education]

What about TX Health care?

Gov. Rick Perry signs health care reform bill into law; Texas fourth state to pass health care compacts bill -- "With the signature of Gov. Rick Perry today, Texas has joined three other states stating their intention to enter into a health care compact.

The compact, which would challenge the authority of the federal government to dictate the terms of the federally and state funded Medicaid program, was part of a wide-ranging health care reform bill, Senate Bill 7, passed by the Texas Legislature in its recently concluded special session.

Georgia, Oklahoma and Missouri have already signed onto the compacts movement, with Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon signing a bill into law on Thursday.

The law establishes Texas, along with the other three states, as pioneers in an uncharted use of Article 1, Section 10 of the Constitution which allows states to enter into agreements that, with the approval of Congress, cannot be abridged by the federal government. There are more than 200 state compacts currently in effect, nearly all of them related to commerce.”…..

I'll add that Houston's Medical Center Complex of Hospitals and Medical Facilities is so large you can see it as you fly into Houston. It is internationally known.

What of HPV vaccine/Gardasil?

…..”Ann Hettinger, Concerned Women for America's state director of Texas, was instrumental in convincing Perry to change his proposal to an opt-in provision. When asked if Perry's original plans for the HPV vaccine would be an issue if he were to run for president, [CEO of Concerned Women for America, Penny] Nance replied, “It would've been an issue IF HE HAD NOT FIXED IT.”

Perry, Social Conservatives and the Road to the Top ….."The party has evolved to where he had the ability to be more open about some of his views," says Susan Weddington, a former chairwoman of the Republican Party of Texas. "I think it's the party that's changed some — this is definitely in his political DNA."

"Rick Perry has continued to stand up. I think that's who the man is," says Cathie Adams, who has been a Texas GOP chairwoman, national committeewoman and head of the Texas Eagle Forum.

She, like others in the Perry fold, believes he's been consistently conservative on issues that matter to social and religious conservatives — most of the time. Like others, she says his support for a mandated vaccine against human papillomavirus was off pitch. HPV, which is sexually transmitted, is the leading cause of cervical cancer; Perry wanted to require the shots for all 12-year-old girls in Texas, unless their parents opted out.

"I worked against HPV," Adams says. "I don't think he was ill-intended on that. He could have listened to more voices."

State Rep. Wayne Christian, R-Center, agrees with that — "where he shot himself in the foot was a couple of sessions ago with that vaccination thing" — but also says Perry's place as the party's standard-bearer is safe.

"I've talked especially with the Tea Party people," he says. "If you want to say on the correct side of them, you need to stick with Perry."……….

June 13, 2011: Texas Gov. Rick Perry blasted pro-abortion President Barack Obama on pro-life issues "Perry said that, under Obama “our federal tax dollars can now be used to fund abortion all over the world. With the stroke of a pen, abortion essentially became a U.S. foreign export......."Perry has pleased pro-life advocates in Texas many times with signing pro-life legislation — most recently signing an ultrasound bill allowing women to see them before an abortion and hopefully changing their minds on it. He has been strongly supported by pro-life groups. Perry supported or signed into law the Women’s Right to Know Act and the Prenatal Protection Act in 2003, parental consent law in 2005, and funding for alternatives to abortions in 2007 and 2009."

Perry knocks Obama’s handling of border security "Speaking this morning to the Texas Municipal Police Association in Austin, Gov. Rick Perry returned to one of his favorite subjects over the last few years, saying the Obama administration has inappropriately handled security issues on the Texas-Mexico border."

No, he's not as advertised, and former Presidente Mexicano Vincente Fox just loves him...

Vicente Fox Thanks Governor Perry

On November 6, 2003, Mexican President Vicente Fox publicly thanked Rick Perry for offering in-state tuition to illegal immigrants.

'nuff said.

TPaw and Bachmann don’t have a legitimate shot anyway and I think Erickson is wrong about Palin not running if Perry does. But we will see.

Here's another nail in Perry's coffin...

Rick Perry: Border Fence is "Nonsense"

In Shenandoah, Texas on August 28, 2009, Rick Perry tells Hispanic Chamber of Congress that "the idea that we're going to build a wall is nonsense." The wall being referred to would be on the southern border of Texas.

Youtube is just full of Perry RINOisms. You really should check it out sometime. I'm sure Obama's goons are compiling a formidable list of his pronouncements in favor of illegal aliens before he decided that he's interested in a Presidential run.

Post Perry’s RECENT stuff all you like, but he’s never going to be able to run away from his prior cozy relation with Vincente Fox, the Trans-Texas Corridor, and the anti-cancer vaccine. Video doesn’t lie about his past RINOism, and no amount of pandering to Conservatives will ever change his spots.

My kids are visiting from North Carolina.

After three days the subject of presidential politics came up. My son a very fiscally conservative individual with libertarian overtones pronounced Perry to be the candidate. Palin will not run, All others toast.

I have made no comments what so ever that might have influenced him.

To me this means that the Perry candidacy has depth and has already reached far down in the electorate for support

The only auction involved was for location spots at the Straw Poll.

As far as some campaigns offering free tickets, I'm not sure about the value of that. I'm not sure there is any evidence it accomplishes anything for the campaign. Even if someone accepts a free ticket from a campaign does not assure a vote.

I have never accepted a free ticket and will not. I will be voting Perry and will not accept a free ticket if I'm even offered it.

It is a waste of money for the candidate.

I see the exact same thing on the ground here in Iowa. Perry is the 800 pound gorilla and is a game changer.

You are of course, misguided.

From the economic wasteland out west, the picture is different than in the rest of the country. The trivial pseudo flaws you raise matter not to the undiseased portions of the country to the east

We can not under any circumstances allow the zero another term. Perry is my man, he is perfectly positioned on the issues to hand Obama his ass.
