"Conservatives hail it and liberals dispute the story, but one thing is certain about the Lone Star State's employment success: The number is real":
LA Times - Texas - The Job Engine [LA Times OpEd - July 3, 2011] "....At the same time and this, of course, is the tough part for those on the left to swallow it is clear that the state's limits on taxes, regulations and lawsuits are contributing to the job machine. "The most important thing I think that's happened to us is tort reform," Fisher, the Dallas Fed president, has said. He added that when John Deere and other companies have decided to hire in Texas, they've been largely driven by steps the state has taken to cap non-economic damages in medical malpractice suits and to make it harder to bring product liability and class-action cases..."
What of the Texas budget?
Texas spending kept rising for years with Perry as governor ***Really? Not so fast with the spin!! Even Bret Baier got this wrong last night on "Special Report."

What of TX Education?
[Texas Education Agency] TEA to lay off 178 workers [Thousands of pink slips for state workers] [great Freeper discussion about education]
What about TX Health care?
Gov. Rick Perry signs health care reform bill into law; Texas fourth state to pass health care compacts bill -- "With the signature of Gov. Rick Perry today, Texas has joined three other states stating their intention to enter into a health care compact.
The compact, which would challenge the authority of the federal government to dictate the terms of the federally and state funded Medicaid program, was part of a wide-ranging health care reform bill, Senate Bill 7, passed by the Texas Legislature in its recently concluded special session.
Georgia, Oklahoma and Missouri have already signed onto the compacts movement, with Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon signing a bill into law on Thursday.
The law establishes Texas, along with the other three states, as pioneers in an uncharted use of Article 1, Section 10 of the Constitution which allows states to enter into agreements that, with the approval of Congress, cannot be abridged by the federal government. There are more than 200 state compacts currently in effect, nearly all of them related to commerce. ..
I'll add that Houston's Medical Center Complex of Hospitals and Medical Facilities is so large you can see it as you fly into Houston. It is internationally known.
What of HPV vaccine/Gardasil?
..Ann Hettinger, Concerned Women for America's state director of Texas, was instrumental in convincing Perry to change his proposal to an opt-in provision. When asked if Perry's original plans for the HPV vaccine would be an issue if he were to run for president, [CEO of Concerned Women for America, Penny] Nance replied, It would've been an issue IF HE HAD NOT FIXED IT.
Perry, Social Conservatives and the Road to the Top .."The party has evolved to where he had the ability to be more open about some of his views," says Susan Weddington, a former chairwoman of the Republican Party of Texas. "I think it's the party that's changed some this is definitely in his political DNA."
"Rick Perry has continued to stand up. I think that's who the man is," says Cathie Adams, who has been a Texas GOP chairwoman, national committeewoman and head of the Texas Eagle Forum.
She, like others in the Perry fold, believes he's been consistently conservative on issues that matter to social and religious conservatives most of the time. Like others, she says his support for a mandated vaccine against human papillomavirus was off pitch. HPV, which is sexually transmitted, is the leading cause of cervical cancer; Perry wanted to require the shots for all 12-year-old girls in Texas, unless their parents opted out.
"I worked against HPV," Adams says. "I don't think he was ill-intended on that. He could have listened to more voices."
State Rep. Wayne Christian, R-Center, agrees with that "where he shot himself in the foot was a couple of sessions ago with that vaccination thing" but also says Perry's place as the party's standard-bearer is safe.
"I've talked especially with the Tea Party people," he says. "If you want to say on the correct side of them, you need to stick with Perry." .
June 13, 2011: Texas Gov. Rick Perry blasted pro-abortion President Barack Obama on pro-life issues "Perry said that, under Obama our federal tax dollars can now be used to fund abortion all over the world. With the stroke of a pen, abortion essentially became a U.S. foreign export......."Perry has pleased pro-life advocates in Texas many times with signing pro-life legislation most recently signing an ultrasound bill allowing women to see them before an abortion and hopefully changing their minds on it. He has been strongly supported by pro-life groups. Perry supported or signed into law the Womens Right to Know Act and the Prenatal Protection Act in 2003, parental consent law in 2005, and funding for alternatives to abortions in 2007 and 2009."
hopefully someone can
GO RICK GO!!
On November 6, 2003, Mexican President Vicente Fox publicly thanked Rick Perry for offering in-state tuition to illegal immigrants.
TPaw and Bachmann don’t have a legitimate shot anyway and I think Erickson is wrong about Palin not running if Perry does. But we will see.
GPO = GOP
In Shenandoah, Texas on August 28, 2009, Rick Perry tells Hispanic Chamber of Congress that "the idea that we're going to build a wall is nonsense." The wall being referred to would be on the southern border of Texas.
Youtube is just full of Perry RINOisms. You really should check it out sometime. I'm sure Obama's goons are compiling a formidable list of his pronouncements in favor of illegal aliens before he decided that he's interested in a Presidential run.
Thanks, Cincinatus’ Wife, it appears Perry is getting much closer to announcing and Americans for Rick Perry is gearing up here in Iowa for the Straw Poll.
Post Perry’s RECENT stuff all you like, but he’s never going to be able to run away from his prior cozy relation with Vincente Fox, the Trans-Texas Corridor, and the anti-cancer vaccine. Video doesn’t lie about his past RINOism, and no amount of pandering to Conservatives will ever change his spots.
Hi. See that you are still shilling
for Open-border- and Gardasil-Perry.
My kids are visiting from North Carolina.
After three days the subject of presidential politics came up. My son a very fiscally conservative individual with libertarian overtones pronounced Perry to be the candidate. Palin will not run, All others toast.
I have made no comments what so ever that might have influenced him.
To me this means that the Perry candidacy has depth and has already reached far down in the electorate for support
There is NO way the Tea Party will support
No way. Ever.
As far as some campaigns offering free tickets, I'm not sure about the value of that. I'm not sure there is any evidence it accomplishes anything for the campaign. Even if someone accepts a free ticket from a campaign does not assure a vote.
I have never accepted a free ticket and will not. I will be voting Perry and will not accept a free ticket if I'm even offered it.
It is a waste of money for the candidate.
I see the exact same thing on the ground here in Iowa. Perry is the 800 pound gorilla and is a game changer.
You are of course, misguided.
From the economic wasteland out west, the picture is different than in the rest of the country. The trivial pseudo flaws you raise matter not to the undiseased portions of the country to the east
We can not under any circumstances allow the zero another term. Perry is my man, he is perfectly positioned on the issues to hand Obama his ass.
It is absolutely amazing to witness people's reactions to Perry. If this momentum keeps up, he's in. People that had no idea whom to support before it was appearing that Perry would be throwing his hat in the ring are now moving to Perry. He has been able to do something no other candidate had been able to do.
I live in Texas.
I’m not a Perry fan.
That said, if he gets the GOP nod, I’ll vote for him and although some here on FR will scream about his RINOism, they too will vote for Perry.
Obama’s gotta go.
I can see a Perry/Rubio ticket absolutely drubing Obama in a presidential race.
(Please allow me 5 minutes to place my flame resistance suit on before replying).
Rubio is NOT a natural born citizen. Not eligible.
And for those who want to look over his Texas Gov. website:
Rick Perry: Office of the Governor
Think about it. Sarah is young. If she ran with Perry as vp he could do two terms and she w b a shoe in for pres. A Perry/palin ticket w b unstoppable.
The GOP needs a ROCK star to compete with ZERO — as bad as our economy and country are at this point under him, there are still enough stupid people to vote for him.
It’s a necessity to get someone who can WIN!!
None of the current candidates can beat 0 and, that definitely includes Romney!
Yes there will be many conversations taken out of context.
I stayed up late (for me!) and found out why these persistent few FReepers troll my Perry posts. Some flat refuse to say who they’re for (always a BIG RED FLAG for me). It seems some are Independents, one heads a CA chapter called “American Independent Party” who championed Ambassador Keyes, one is a Palin supporter who believes “Gardasil-TTC” links will help her run, and others suggest I’m a Giuliani supporter and too unclean to be posting on FR.
In fact I've posted a multitude of Palin threads -- even vanity ones like this.
Yech. We’ve got an exceptional reformer candidate and leader in Palin and you want her to play second fiddle again to a go-along-get-along globalist? No thanks!
Naw, never. (whicH TP are you referring?)
This is another “Let’s bash Perry” thread.
There is nothing in the style and presentation of Perry that will appeal to Easterners once they see and hear him and get an understanding of how thoroughly he has wrapped his governorship in the Bible.
His baseline resume a two and a half term governor from a high-growth state has appeal. But once they start coming to know Perry directly I can guarantee that they’re not going to warm to him at all.
Did you listen to the interview? Erickson posed all the questions I felt needed an answer above.
Thanks for the link. From what I know this article is right on the money. Each day I’m telling the campaign we need 10,000 hats for the Straw Poll. I know they’re considering it but they need to hustle.
Make that COWBOY hats!!
His refusal to deal with illegals is one reason I’m not enthusiastic about Perry. He is solid on abortion, overall better than McCain, and electable, but he isn’t the most principled conservative candidate in the race.
Not so much!
That would be awesome!!
Is it ok for a person to back a candidate and post news about them without having a handful of people running from thread to thread to disrupt them? We don't run to Palin threads to bash her.
Did Perry and Palin announce? They are "candidates" now? I did not know that.....
Post a thread about Perry (who is not running) and some Texans will show up and point out Perry's past. Post a bunch of threads time and again about non-candidate Perry as CW does and if we run across them we will point out Perry's flaws along with the other comments.
I'm not running "from thread to thread to disrupt them" when it comes to Perry. I'm hitting thread after thread about Perry liked they are speed bumps in a cheap apartment complex. You can't get away from them because someone is posting them over and over. You post on FR, you get responses. That's the way it works around here. You post about the SAME topic over and over you get a bunch of responses.
Nobody gets a free reign around here and if you start pimping someone like Rick Perry other are going to point out your pink caddy with curb feelers, the feather in your hat and the 40 you are sipping on.
Would you please put some meat on those bones so I can respond?
