White House Compares 'Cut, Cap and Balance Act' to 'Paul Ryan Plan On Steroids'

Following the president’s veto threat this morning, senior White House officials launched a full-on assault against the Republican “Cut, Cap and Balance Act” this afternoon, describing it as “extreme, radical, and unprecedented.”

On a conference call with reporters this afternoon, White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said the legislation “essentially enshrines into the constitution the Ryan plan on steroids.”

“Unless House Republicans are willing to raise revenues, significant revenues, something they have refused to do, it would require much deeper spending cuts than in the Ryan plan. This would result in even more devastating cuts to clean energy, education and health care for children and people with disabilities,” Pfeiffer said.

In addition to cutting spending in fiscal 2012 by $111 billion and capping future spending at 19.9 percent of GDP, the bill would require that a Balanced Budget Amendment be approved by Congress and sent to the states in order for the debt ceiling to be increased.

Another perhaps more accurate name for the process is upping the ante. You had your chance to accept the Ryan deal. You refused. The cost of playing is now more expensive.

Better get in while you can.

Thanks for putting it so succinctly.
I always thought the Ryan plan was a little weak.
Hopefully, this will galvanize conservatives around the CC&B - the second best plan.

Best plan is to NOT raise the debt ceiling and instead cut spending 45% immediately.

The socialist White House is bound and determined to not reduce spending. The taxpayers’ wishes do not matter to this fascist cabal. The president and Cabinet and Czars are dictatorial. They have formed their own socialist party and they intend to answer only to themselves. They have insulted the courts, defied congress, and defied the voters and taxpayers.

Every single RAT criticizes, complains and b*tches about PUB plans. Yet, they have proposed nothing except higher taxes, more spending and continued destruction.

Where are the Tea Party Reps and Sens going to end this? I haven’t heard one word from Rand Paul, who started out so well. It is well past time for the newly elected people to start yelling back. WHERE THE HELL IS YOUR PLAN?

Good!
This and the veto threat illustrate how desperate they are that they will end up with the hot potato.
(it was tempting to add an “e” to potato, but too many freepers wouldn’t get it)

President Obama has put forward a balanced approach to both spending & revenues. It’s all on the table, but the GOP wants limited cuts only.

I personally don't give a rats a$$ what the boy king thinks about the Constitutional Amendment process - he doesn't have a stinkn' say in the matter.

It is interesting to note that at no point does the President have a role in the formal amendment process

God I couldn’t believe the homosexual penis study. The study reported that those with smaller penises had more “issues”, shall we say.

And while there is a fascination in the gay community with the functions of a penis, the key question is why in the sam hill is taxpayer money paying for this sort of study???????

Are 0BAMA and Democrats really negotiating in good faith? It seems that all Democrats and Obama do is criticize and shoot down any proposal Republicans come up with.

The Ryan plan was harsly criticized at the outset. That plan could have been a good starting point for serious discussion of the kinds of actions needed to balance a budget which is trillions out of balance. But instead, the Democrats just shoot it down, say that we’re pushing Grandma off a cliff, and have no proposals of their own.

Yep, it’s like a poker game in which we’re upping the ante. Obama told Eric Cantor not to call his bluff. It will be enlightening when everybody has to show their cards won’t it?????

Not only that, but the Paul Ryan plan has been passed by the house for the 2012 budget and the senate and president are acting like it doesn’t exist. When they are not lying about it’s content, that is.

“extreme, radical, and unprecedented”

Their rhetoric is so stale, so tired.

We've had a budget passed from the House, we've had the Ryan plan, we've got Cut, Cap & Balance, we've got Coburn's plan... where is any Democrat plan embodied in passable legislation?

Sorry, Danny boy, but 19.9% of GDP is huge. If the federal government can't survive on $1 for every $5 dollars in the economy, it's just WAY TOO BIG.

$111 billion off a $1,500 billion deficit is hardly extreme or radical.

“clean energy, education and health care for children and people with disabilities,” Pfeiffer said.”

Let’s see. Get rid of department of education. Check. Get rod of department of energy. Check. Get rid of health and man services. Check.

Hmmm... That’s a cool hundred billion right there. Thanks Dan” good start.

They’ve actually sorta adopted the Mitch McConnell plan as a Plan B.

Lets use the Indiana Plan. That State has a 1.2 billion dollar surplus....9 percent of their spending....that if applied to the U.S. budget would give us a 300 billion dollar surplus. ????

the GOP needs to respond with the Gay Men’s Penis Study and all other forms of ridiculous wasteful spending they can find.

EXACTLY!!

We need to expose all of these stupid government costs on study grants like determining which adult magazine college students prefer (check which one sales the most in college towns - duh!), or research on the sexual attractions of single females (why is this important enough for the US government to invest?), or why fat kids are likely to be bullied (who cares - remember, we just need to all get along regardless of WHY there are bullies - heck, we need to worry about the bullies), or money doing research to determine that "alcoholics are more likely to drive under the influence," (an actual study was completed and they determined this to be a fact - DUH! DOH!) and then just dumb "investments" like a $20 million empty parking locator application for your smartphone (how about a COMPANY investing in this and then CHARGING for the service, instead of our BROKE government GIVING IT AWAY FOR FREE!

“”Cut, Cap and Balance Act””

Can someone please tell me where this name came from? One day we’re watching the debate on raising the debt ceiling and the next, we’re hearing a name that seems to have come from thin air.
