Men who pay for sex are more likely than men who do not pay for sex to commit a variety of offenses including violent crimes against women, according to research conducted in the Boston area.
The study, released this week, was based on interviews with 202 men conducted by the nonprofit group Prostitution Research and Education and was led by Melissa Farley, a clinical psychologist and anti-prostitution activist.
Buyers and non-buyers of commercial sex from the Boston area were paired by age, education and ethnicity to compare their perceptions of women after voluntarily joining the study. About half the men paid for sex and the other half did not.
Men who paid for sex were more likely to report having committed felonies and misdemeanors, including crimes related to violence against women and those related to substance abuse, assault and weapons, the study found.
The study was designed, among other things, to test attitudes of men who buy sex. It found that as a group, they share certain attitudes and behavioral tendencies different from their non-buying peers.
Almost three in four of the sex buyers reported they learned about sex from pornography, whereas only 54 percent of the non-buyers did so.

Or people who commit crimes buy more sex.
So in summation...criminals commit crimes??
I wonder how much taxpayer money funded this study...
It’s never free.
Interesting research; doubtful data.
So how many tax payer dollars were pi$$ed away so thesew ‘geniuses’ could ‘discover’ that people who are willing to break one law are often willing to break other laws as well?
So all of those WWII vets that bought that stuff all over the world turned into criminals, who knew///????? Another damn stupid study paid for by tax dollars, no doubt.
Can't live with 'em, can't herd 'em all into Canada.
Why'd they need a study? All they needed to do is look at Congress.
I don’t find it surprising that criminal risk-takers are highly specialialized and overly discriminating.
” Interesting research; doubtful data. “

Yes, it is a waste of government money.
Having said that, though, if the populations are statistically valid, if the methodology is sound, and if the data was accurately compiled and interpreted, it would tend to counter the argument about prostitution being a victimless crime.
A lot of if's and I haven't looked at the report, so I don't know if any or all of the "if's" are met.
sort of a critical fail on my part
Agreed, you’re going to pay for it one way or another!!
Is it because buying sex is a crime?
Keep them out of Canada.
Send them to Alaska.
So this was reported in ‘old.news’? LOL!
Some would say everyone is a prostitute in one form or another. A person who has a job is a prostitute for their employer. A person who owns a business is a prostitute for his customers and the government who taxes him/her. A person who sits on their but and collects welfare is a prostitute for the Democrats.
The sex trade in general demeans human beings. Some on FR seem to think marriage (which is honorable in God's eyes) does the same.
Put this in the same “duh” category as the study that showed the highest crime cities vote democrat and the lowest crime cities are politically conservative.
I didn’t know they were buying it so much as merely renting it.
Gee, ya think? They’re also louder, more obnoxious and have a MUCH higher opinion of their own coolness and sexual prowess than warranted, generally, by the evidence.
As I tell my daughters’ suitors, “There are guys and there are men. If you’re committed to being a man, we’ll get along just fine.”
