Mother tries to sell baby at Taco Bell

A mother walks into a Taco Bell...and what does she do? No, she doesn't order a Beefy 5 Layer Burrito. She peddles her three-day old to a customer. Some people just shouldn't have children.

Heidi Lynn Knowles, 36, of Vancouver, Wash., reportedly stumbled into the restaurant and started taking bids from customers for her newborn son. The asking price ranged from $500 to $5,000. The cops were later called and showed up at a motel where Knowles was crashed. She was charged with attempted child selling-buying, a Class C felony, and was held on $50,000 bail.

Some customers reported that Knowles seemed drunk or high at the Taco Bell, but in court she claimed to have been clean from methamphetamine for a year. She also said that she was trying to sell her baby so she'd have more money to leave town and start a new life.

Taco Bell? What was she thinking? She should have picked a high end restaurant.

Why else would she be in a Taco Bell?

"Think Outside The Bun"? Baby sales is a little too far outside the bun.

Personally, I would have bought the kid and given it a good home. I always worry about what happens to these kids when the system gets their hand on them.

Hey, now! I used to practically LIVE off their ‘Six Pack’ of tacos deal when I was in college...

...

Then again, now that I think about it some more, never mind!

She was trying to sell the kid because she didn’t want it. And ended up giving it away. To the state! I know there’s a young couple out there who wants a baby. I pray the kid ends up with loving parents.

Well, I was thinking, if you bought the kid, just to get him out of the Mom’s clutches, even if you called the law afterwards you’d probably go to jail, wouldn’t you?

I don’t know that you would especailly if you told them you feardfor the child’s life sicne she appeared drunk/high? I’d think if you imediately called the police and thold them what had happened they would consider you more a good samaratin than a criminal?

That’s more meat than was sold at the Taco Bell than during the preceding 4 years.

I wonder if baby buying is also illegal. They say that no good turn goes unpunished.

I would hope, but I just don’t know these days. I probably would do it anyway, but if money changed hands, who knows. I would probably have to end up in court and fight it.

Does a kid need a title as when you sell a car?

If she was taking bids, get another person to hold a “bidding war” with you to stall for time while a third person called the police.

Yes, in that particular case. Altho I guess I was thinking, would anyone participating open themselves up for legal trouble? They shouldn’t, but I don’t always trust the system.
