NEW YORK (AP) — The medical examiner says an 8-year-old New York City boy who was abducted off a street in a Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn, killed and dismembered last week was given a combination of drugs before he was smothered.

I don't know what are the chances of someone getting the death penalty in NY, but this monster should never see the streets again!

Since none of the DAs supported the death penalty in NY, the state court overturned it. So the worst this mutt can get is life without parole.

This story has made me ill. As the parent of a young boy, I cannot fathom what these parents are going through. Absolutely sickening. All I guess you can hope for in such a vile situation is that the child was unconscious and felt no pain.

This disgusting killer deserves the max penalty. I just hope this is no Casey-Anthony-esque jury or defense when this goes to court.

Police and prosecutors said Aron, a hardware supply store clerk, confessed to suffocating Leiby with a bath towel, but they said they were continuing to work on verifying his horrific and bizarre explanation for the boy’s death. It remained unclear why Aron took the child in the first place, they said.

The medical examiner’s office said Wednesday that the boy’s death was caused by intoxication from the combined effects of cyclobenzaprine, a muscle relaxant; quetiapine, an anti-psychotic; and the pain medications hydrocodone and acetaminophen, followed by smothering. Prescription drugs were found at the apartment.

*******

In the 450-word alleged confession, suspect Levi Aron claimed that Kletzky had asked him for a ride to a book shop, but then “changed his mind and wasn’t sure where he wanted to go.”

“So I asked if he wanted to go for the ride — (a) wedding in Monsey — since I didn’t think I was going to stay for the whole thing since my back was hurting. He said OK,” Aron said, according to the transcript.

Leiby Kletzky went missing while walking home from a day camp.
“Due to traffic, I got back around 11:20 p.m. ... so I brought him to my house thinking I’d bring him to his house the next day,” he added. “He watched TV then fell asleep in the front room. I went to the middle room to sleep.”

‘I panicked’

The next morning, Aron said, the child was still sleeping “when I was ready to leave.”

“So I woke him and told him I’ll bring him to his house ... when I saw the flyers I panicked and was afraid,” he said. “I was still in panic ... and afraid to bring him home. That is when I went for a towel to smother him in the side room. He fought back a little bit.”

Aron said he again panicked “because I didn’t know what to do with the body.” He then described in graphic detail how he dismembered the body.

In the 70’s two boys were grabbed and murdered. This happened in Omaha.

At that time there was no death penalty. The man was convicted sent to the Nebraska prison.

The prison officials treated him as a normal inmate.

Within a few weeks a fellow prisoner obtained a screwdriver and plunged it several times into the eye sockets of the man who killed the two boys.

There are ways around the death penalty not being imposed by the liberal courts.

I wondered the same thing. Or perhaps the guy was lonely and just wanted a friend (possible but not likely). He is divorced and was living with his parents (iirc). He admitted that he killed the boy because he was found out about the search party looking for him.

Police say Leiby Kletzky got lost leaving day camp and asked the suspect for help before he was killed last week.

From my time in Lakewood, which has a large Haredi Jewish community, I saw that the children are raised to shun outsiders and to trust people in ultra-Orthodox dress. The little boy probably turned to a man rather than a woman because segregation of the sexes is practised, even though a woman would be safer for a lost child. Very sad.

...More facts about this monster....he even said he liked it there better than Tennessee because thee were more boys...the guys going to get off with insanity...you can bet on it.

A woman who lives three doors down from Levi Aron, 35, the suspect in the murder of Leiby Kletzky, told the Post that Aron had unsuccessfully tried to kidnap her son within the past two years.

Zisa Berkowitz told the paper that she was able to scare him away from her son with her screams. “The story is true. We’re going through a lot of trauma here,” she said.

Aron is undergoing psychiatric evaluation at Bellevue Hospital after his attorneys said he has hallucinations and hears voices

.A former neighbor called him an “oddball” who would give children rides in cars.

Aron had gone after another boy about a week before the murder of Leiby. He reportedly stalked an 11-year-old boy in Borough Park. The boy was reportedly walking home on his block, “when he noticed a gold car was tailing him. He kept turning around, feeling suspicious, and kept noticing the car was there, so he broke into a run and quickly went home to tell his parents,” said

I would not count on it. We have recently seen a Murderer MOM get by with Murdering her 2 1/2 year old little girl. Throw her in a trash dump at a swamp. And the ignorant Jury let her walk.

Even if this guy confessed, I’ll bet money a Jury will claim because he wasn’t breast fed he needs to walk. Don’t people get it, american society has so devalued our children
born and unborn that any horror against them is excused.

At that time liberal judges were treating criminals as the victim of society. They would get light sentences and hurt more and more truly innocent people.

Then we got minimum sentencing and took the power of judges to harm us with their rabid pet animals away from them.

A friend of mine told me today that an acquaintance of her daughter frequented a karaoke bar in Brooklyn. A group of friends would get together for a night out. They befriended a guy there who became part of their group. He once said that he liked the karaoke place because the noise drowned out the voices in his head.

They all thought he was a little strange but evidently no one knew to what degree. He was even their "Friend" on Facebook.

They heard about the abduction and discovered their karaoke fringe friend is the perpetrator of this horrific crime.

I suggested to some female Hasidic and Orthdox friends of mine that perhaps they could tell the children to trust "mommies" who had their own kids especially those with a baby carriage. (not uncommon in urban New York as they are elsewhere in the country) They said that sounded like a good idea.

I heard today there are efforts toward a "Leiby's Law". Councilman Greenfield proposed using green stickers to designate a "Safe Haven" at a store or a home. Homeowners would have stringent guidelines and have to be subjected to a thorough background check and get fingerprinted. That doesn't sound like a good idea to me because there are too many variables that could occur and it would end up being a monstrous bureaucracy to boot.

The Casey Anthony problem was not the jury. It was the prosecution charging much more than it could prove. I have served on a jury that let an obviously guilty party that most of us loathed walk because the prosecution charged him with things that could not even be indicated as likely, much less proved.

1. Insanity defense.
2. Not guilty by reason of insanity
3. 5-10 years in psychiatric hospital
4. “Cured” and released into society
5. Kills another little boy.

In a more rational world, the proper authorities would have already disposed of this monster.

Please. The Casey Anthony jury could have found her guilty of child neglect - those pesky, troublesome 31 days of a missing two year old, ya know? They didn’t even bother with that.

The Prosecution did the best they could - Mrs. Drane-Burdock was brilliant.

The jury didn’t have to touch the death penalty first degree murder charge. But they had to get home to take care of their dogs and go on cruises. So a child murderer walks among us.

Nobody gets the D.P. in New York, not even cop killers or the architect of 911, Khalid Sheik Mohammed, which is why our beloved Attorney General and this adminstration in the W.H. were creaming in their shorts to have him tried in a civilian court in N.Y. so that not only would he not face the D.P. but also have a possibility of being freed for having his rights violated.

Such schemes have operated in Australia for at least 30 years. They work very well. No need for a massive bureaucracy, and I’ve never heard of a case where a child came to harm because of the program.

It’s not perfect but a kid in trouble needs to go somewhere for help. This gives them more security and safety than if their choice is totally random.

The child was drugged and killed. Too bad for the perp the body couldn't have been hidden and decomposed leaving no evidence of direct foul play. He would nave nothing to fear. No DNA no conviction.

The prosecution relied on the ductape to be proof of murder. People do that with the tape rom time to time, not intelligent people, not nice people, but not necessarily murderers. Some drugged out fools and drunks will tape their kids' mouths shut to make them be quiet. It is wrong and in most states will get intervention from the State and maybe the child confiscated. It is not proof of murder or intent to murder. You feel that the woman was evil and should have been convicted no matter what the evidence. You were not a juror. A juror has to decide, not is the accused a bad person who should be locked up, but has the prosecution proved him guilty. I was not on that jury but I have read extensively about the trial and I have sat on a jury that decided to not convict an obviously guilty perp. He was obviously guilty of something that the prosecution did not even address except once in an offhand manner. The actual charge did not address it. The prosecution had been targeting the fellow(rightfully) for a long time and the actual charge was far more serious than the charge they could have proved.

Manslaughter would have gotten a conviction. When Mom is "impaired" and frantically beats up a child who then dies she is not properly convictable of 1st degree murder. If it is charged she will get off. She can go away for a long time, however, on a manslaughter charge. That prosecutor was playing politics, not seeking justice.

You are incensed that this evil woman "got away with it" and feel that the jury should have convicted no matter what the evidence presented.

That is mob justice.

Manslaughter would have gotten a conviction.

The charges against her (see count 3 below) included manslaughter, she WAS on trial for manslaughter. You waste my time, you are the knee jerk reactionary not me.

Count One,

First Degree Murder

: If Casey Anthony is convicted of first degree murder, regardless of whether it is on a theory of Pre-meditated Murder or Felony Murder she will receive at a minimum a life sentence. A life sentence in Florida is a true life sentence, which means there is no parole or early release. A defendant convicted of first degree murder only leaves prison after his or her death. The only alternative to a life sentence is death by execution. Lesser Included of Count One, Second Degree Murder: (depraved mind murder, not premeditated) The maximum penalty for Second Degree Murder is a life sentence. The minimum sentence is based on the Criminal Punishment Code. The estimated minimum sentence for this charge and other charges which might result in conviction along with this count would be 24 years, 6 months.

Count Two,

Aggravated Child Abuse

: The maximum penalty for aggravated child is 15 years in prison. The estimated minimum sentence for this charge and other charges which might result in conviction along with this count would be 12 years, 1 month.

Count Three,

Aggravated Manslaughter

of a Child: If Casey Anthony is convicted of causing the death of Caylee by culpable negligence the maximum sentence is 30 years in prison. The estimated minimum sentence for this charge and other charges which might result in conviction along with this count would be 16 years and 6 months.
