NEW YORK (AP) — The medical examiner says an 8-year-old New York City boy who was abducted off a street in a Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn, killed and dismembered last week was given a combination of drugs before he was smothered.

So? The boy was hassidic and the abductor was orthodox.
This story has made me ill. As the parent of a young boy, I cannot fathom what these parents are going through. Absolutely sickening. All I guess you can hope for in such a vile situation is that the child was unconscious and felt no pain.
This disgusting killer deserves the max penalty. I just hope this is no Casey-Anthony-esque jury or defense when this goes to court.

Police and prosecutors said Aron, a hardware supply store clerk, confessed to suffocating Leiby with a bath towel, but they said they were continuing to work on verifying his horrific and bizarre explanation for the boy’s death. It remained unclear why Aron took the child in the first place, they said.
The medical examiner’s office said Wednesday that the boy’s death was caused by intoxication from the combined effects of cyclobenzaprine, a muscle relaxant; quetiapine, an anti-psychotic; and the pain medications hydrocodone and acetaminophen, followed by smothering. Prescription drugs were found at the apartment.

In the 450-word alleged confession, suspect Levi Aron claimed that Kletzky had asked him for a ride to a book shop, but then “changed his mind and wasn’t sure where he wanted to go.”
“So I asked if he wanted to go for the ride — (a) wedding in Monsey — since I didn’t think I was going to stay for the whole thing since my back was hurting. He said OK,” Aron said, according to the transcript.
Leiby Kletzky went missing while walking home from a day camp.
“Due to traffic, I got back around 11:20 p.m. ... so I brought him to my house thinking I’d bring him to his house the next day,” he added. “He watched TV then fell asleep in the front room. I went to the middle room to sleep.”
‘I panicked’
The next morning, Aron said, the child was still sleeping “when I was ready to leave.”
“So I woke him and told him I’ll bring him to his house ... when I saw the flyers I panicked and was afraid,” he said. “I was still in panic ... and afraid to bring him home. That is when I went for a towel to smother him in the side room. He fought back a little bit.”
Aron said he again panicked “because I didn’t know what to do with the body.” He then described in graphic detail how he dismembered the body.
In the 70’s two boys were grabbed and murdered. This happened in Omaha.
At that time there was no death penalty. The man was convicted sent to the Nebraska prison.
The prison officials treated him as a normal inmate.
Within a few weeks a fellow prisoner obtained a screwdriver and plunged it several times into the eye sockets of the man who killed the two boys.
There are ways around the death penalty not being imposed by the liberal courts.
Even thieves and murderers do not like short eyes.
I wondered the same thing. Or perhaps the guy was lonely and just wanted a friend (possible but not likely). He is divorced and was living with his parents (iirc). He admitted that he killed the boy because he was found out about the search party looking for him.
How did he get an 8 year old boy to take all of the medication??
This story is just too horrible.
From my time in Lakewood, which has a large Haredi Jewish community, I saw that the children are raised to shun outsiders and to trust people in ultra-Orthodox dress. The little boy probably turned to a man rather than a woman because segregation of the sexes is practised, even though a woman would be safer for a lost child. Very sad.
I don’t believe his story. He freaked out when he saw the signs but never let the boy call his parents? And we know the little boy must have asked!
