Lawsuit Brought Against Anoka-Hennepin School District for 'Gag Policy' (gays say neutral not ok)

The Anoka-Hennepin School District is being sued for its Sexual Orientation Curriculum Policy, which says that staff members must remain neutral on matters regarding sexual orientation.

The district has been dealing with bullying and harassing of students for their sexual orientation and is currently under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, National Center for Lesbian Rights, and Faegre & Benson, LLP, filed a federal lawsuit today, calling the policy a “gag policy.”

According to a statement released by the Anoka Hennepin Gay Equity Team, they feel that the policy has contributed to an “unsafe learning environment for students and staff in Anoka-Hennepin schools.”

But the district has stood by the policy each time it’s challenged. According to the policy, “teaching about sexual orientation is not a part of the district adopted curriculum; rather, such matters are best addressed within individual family homes, churches, or community organizations.”

The policy also states that the board is committed to providing a safe and respectful learning environment and providing an education that respects the beliefs of all students and families.

The lawsuit accuses the district’s gag policy of perpetuating the harassment of gay students in the district. A statement from the Southern Poverty Law Center says that school personnel “almost always took insufficient action to stop the abuse” in each incident.

But the district says each situation was investigated by an outside law firm that found the district’s response was prompt, reasonable, and appropriate in each case. The district said that due to privacy laws, victims and their families don’t always know what discipline is given to offenders.

Superintendent Dennis Carlson said that when it comes to LGBT issues, the community is split and opinions vary widely. The school board feels the policy is appropriate for the community and is not changing it at this time. The statement added that the policy is constitutional and that “the Supreme Court has recognized that public school officials have a valid interest in taking neutral positions on matters of public controversy.”

The Anoka-Hennepin District released a statement yesterday asking the Southern Poverty Law Center and the National Center for Lesbian Rights to help with employee training to support LGBT students, saying that support, not litigation, is the best path to aiding the students in Anoka-Hennepin.

Note the undertone from the article, above, as well as these others: a neutral position is no longer good enough. Now the lavender mafia demands active affirmation of their perversion by teachers.

A wicked and perverse generation...

You would think gays would be in favor of a gag policy. But apparently they find it tough to swallow.

Please! This is a family friendly site. Please do not use the words “gag” and “gay” in the same line.

What, exactly, does a Minnesota school system’s ‘neutrality’ on ‘gay’ issues have to do with poverty in the south?

;-)

agreed.

...but public schools are already liberal indoctrination centers. this is simply another subject being added.

nationwide school vouchers would solve it.
i don’t know what else will,
short of our Lord returning.

Children are not the property of the state. Let the parents decide.

They said all they wanted was tolerance. Some people made the mistake of giving it to them. That door should have never been opened.

Nothing, but the days of Jim Crow are long past, and it’s much easier for the grievance mongers to latch on to a new victim group than it is for them to get real jobs.

Yes, that’s what kids go to school for. Not to read, not to write, not to learn math, not to learn history. Just learn to be ok with whatever some fool decides to do with his johnson when in the company of his pals.

I think that 10 year olds should be given a complete uncensored lesson on gay sex practice and paraphernalia. Let’s see how romantic they think it is then.

great point!
...in New York, they passed gay marriage with protections for churches.
just as they did in Illinois.
where already Catholic agencies for adoption and foster care have been put out of business,
because of “gay rights”.
(because they wouldn’t serve the HORDES of gays who want to adopt and foster children... so now, the children suffer.)

rkomalley What, exactly, does a Minnesota school system’s ‘neutrality’ on ‘gay’ issues have to do with poverty in the south?

Nothing. The "Southern Poverty Law Center" is only interested in pushing leftwing causes, and the only southerners living in poverty they advocate for are black.

After all, we all know how liberals feel about poor white people living in the south.
