Ads to pressure Nelson on debt (Will Nebraska Democrat Ben Nelson vote for Cut, Cap, and Balance?)

A conservative group is trying to put pressure on Democratic U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson to oppose raising the debt ceiling without significant spending cuts.

The national group, Concerned Women for America, have purchased television time in Nebraska and three other states, where they will run an advertisement criticizing Congress' "spending addiction." The ad is a parody of a typical drug commercial. In it, a so-called miracle drug called "Spenditol" has been invented in Washington, D.C., to cure the nation's debt problem. The ad then lists the side effects of the drug, including "a mountain of debt."

Penny Nance, president of the group, said Nebraska was chosen because they wanted to influence Nelson.

"Ben Nelson is up for re-election, and we think he'll be open to hearing from our members, more than ever before," said Nance. The group not only supports deep spending cuts, but it opposes any tax hikes to offset the cuts or balance the budget.

The advertisement will run for a week in the Omaha and Lincoln markets. The group purchased about $174,000 in air time.

Nelson declined to comment on the commercial. But he has said he is focused on ensuring that both Social Security and Medicare are protected in any budget compromise.

I heard him on the radio just this morning saying that there was no way he would vote for it.

No way he would vote for raising the debt ceiling? Or no way he would vote for spending cuts?

I’m sure he’ll tout during election time what a “deficit hawk” he is, once again...

We all know that CC&B can’t pass the senate for political reasons. there is no way a Republican bill would be allowed to “fix” this crisis. The dems would never let it happen because it would give the Republicans too many political arrows in their quiver for 2012. We can all see the ads now touting how Obama and the dems almost let the U.S. fail but the Republican came to the rescue. Obama will let the U.S. sink before he and his minions would let the Republicans win this fight. That is the real reason he said he would veto it before the House even voted.

Let's hope so. I would like to know if as of yet he has a 'Rat challenger for the primaries.

AND are there any promising Republicans who have decided to run against him?

Nelson needs to be defeated in the next election. His shameless “bribe” for his Obama Care vote alone should have honest Nebraskans up in arms.
