At least seven people were killed in a powerful bomb blast that ripped apart government buildings in Norway's capital. Shortly after the blast, a gunman opened fire at a youth camp outside Oslo. Police suspect the attacks are linked.
The bombing is the deadliest in Oslo since World War II. It tore open several buildings, including the prime minister's office. Prime Minister Yens Stoltenburg was not hurt.
U.S. government sources told ABC News there may have been multiple explosions and at least one of them was the result of a massive vehicle bomb. Windows were shattered at the 20-floor high-rise government headquarters building.
A Norwegian government official says there are people trapped in some of the buildings.
A senior U.S. diplomat in Oslo said they believe all personnel in the country are safe and accounted for.
Hours later, a gunman dressed in a police uniform opened fire at a political youth camp at Utoya, shooting several young people. Police Inspector Bjoern Erik Sem-Jacobsen said a suspect in the shooting has been arrested.
The camp is for young members, between the ages of 14 and 18, of the prime minister's Labor Party. Unconfirmed reports indicate five victims were hit by gunfire.
According to Norwegian TV, an unknown group called Helpers of the Global Jihad posted a message that said this was only the beginning.
The attack comes as Norway grapples with a homegrown terror plot linked to al Qaeda. Last week, a Norwegian prosecutor filed terror charges against an Iraqi-born cleric for threatening Norwegian politicians with death. It is unknown if it's connected with this attack.

Remember the Left gets to have it all ways. Bill Maher, most Demonrats, etc. will say this is the work of “religion” generally, implying that christians are just as much to blame for this incident in Norway as the mohammedans who actually did it.
I wonder what rules they have for interogation? I suppose waterboarding is not in the cards?
I am not sure. I believe that they have made the death penalty illegal, though.
headlines just went by. They arrested the same man for both incidents. One thing nobody has speculated on. Maybe he is a cop. Maybe he just went nuts.
First, the death of the kids is bad. The attack on the government is less bad as Western governments are generally foul. However, if such attacks turn out to be an Islamic attack, and this helps end “Diversity” in the West, then they those killed shall not have died in vain.
Maybe. Hard to believe that one person could do both.
