The President Is Actually Trying to Talk the Markets Into a Panic.
Commentary Magazine ^ | 7/22/11 | John Podhoretz

Posted on 07/22/2011 5:46:50 PM PDT by markomalley

An enraged Barack Obama just took to the nation’s airwaves to announce his effort to strike a deal with Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner has fallen apart. Perhaps for the first time in American history, this president is literally using this press conference to create a financial panic over the weekend about the opening of the markets on Monday. He is warning of disaster on Monday. Clearly, he wants to use this as leverage to frighten the GOP into passing the plan proposed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, which will push the debt ceiling problem into 2013, but it’s still an entirely new and astonishingly reckless gambit.

Watching the insta-reaction on Twitter is very instructive. Liberals say this is good for Obama because it shows GOP recalcitrance. Conservatives say that he has remained so committed to enormous tax increases that he tanked the very possibility of a deal. Time will tell, but it strikes me that the heated rhetoric he is using—”I didn’t get my phone call returned,” “I’ve been left at the altar,” “there’s nothing Republicans will say yes to”—does not suggest he, Obama, feels he has been handed a gift by Boehner and the GOP. He claims to have put $1.5 trillion in cuts on the table, plus $600 billion in entitlement reductions, in exchange for tax increases of the same size. He says Republicans said they would accept a dollar in higher taxes (or “revenue”) for every four dollars in cuts, which isn’t exactly saying “no’” to everything. For their part, Republicans in the House passed their cut, cap and balance bill on Wednesday, and it included an increase in the debt ceiling, so even by his own account his criticisms of the GOP are not accurate.

Arrogance and petulance combined in the same face and tone are most unbecoming in a person who occupies the office of the presidency of the United States.

"I didn't get my phone call returned" and "I've been left at the altar" reveal a sad immaturity and weakness, not the level of strength and maturity of a world leader.

Obama is negotiating in bad faith. And then he jumps to the microphones. It won’t work. The era of big spending to achieve some illusory utopia is over.

He didn’t get his way so he is having a tantrum and acting ugly, while Americans who haven’t gotten their way, having a fiscally responsible government and a job, are expected to and do still act civilized.

Me thinks the asshat Obama, his handlers are doing their best to manipulate a World class crisis to create an excuse for extraordinary, perhaps extra Constitutional actions.

I think revolution isn’t that far fetched a possibility.

“Obama, feels he has been handed a gift by Boehner and the GOP. He claims to have put $1.5 trillion in cuts on the table, plus $600 billion in entitlement reductions, in exchange for tax increases of the same size.”

THAT IS A BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD BAD DEAL.

Even $1 in tax hikes for $20 in phony fake ‘cuts sometime later’ deals is a bad deal.

Which part of NO in ‘no tax hikes’ is not understood?

there is only one GOOD deal: Cut spending
eg.
- raise the debt ceiling by $X billion
- cut FY 2012 spending from the baseline by $X/5 billion
and assume the ‘savings’ goes for 5 years.

Someone forgot to tell Obama he was running ofr president, not massah.

I use that charged term deliberately, because he has the cliche’d clave master’s opinion of the rest of the world—we exist for our own benefit only as a minor, secondary reality. We are all just property to him, to be shoved around to help make things ‘equal’ in the most government-centric, liberal societal control way—food stamps (up through the ROOF under him), taxes as punishment for taking from the pie that we all should have equal-sized slices of, and the rest of his games with other people’s money.

Then he will look out on the accomplishments of others while he parties with those who also see the rest of us as mere racist crackers of all colors, and say “See what *I* did?!”

He is the ultimate liberal, who sees the rest of us as mere obstructions in his goal of social engineering, who don’t get the wonder of the academic world where the rest of the planet is kept away, and everyone lives by the mantra: “The world would be perfect if everyone would let US run their lives.”

When someone has another point of view, he does what all freaks who see government and politicians as messiahs do—he insults, he pouts, he gets pissy, he whines...and he is revealed as an Oz-like puppet master who has no power if only someone isn’t afraid of his illusions and dares stand up to him.

And guess who thinks he is going to be President of the World?

Slick and Beast think it's going to be Slick, although I'm sure Obozo would like the job. But Slick needs it more, to dry-clean what that blue dress did for his political career, so watch out, Bozo!

Talk about a national nightmare-—we’ve never withstood anything this bad, this misguided, in all its comprehensive WRONGNESS.

The only parallel I can think of is, what would it have been like in 63 BC if Catiline had been, instead of Cicero's arrestee and prisoner, consul of the Romans?

We've got the perp in office and the good guys on the outside looking in ..... thanks, everybody remember this, to Vernon Jordan and Tommy Dasschole. And George Soros, of course.

The coup was accomplished in November, 2008. What he is trying for now is to become King of the Earth.
