Skip to comments.Norway attack: Right-wing extremism emerging? [BARF ALERT!]
Posted on 07/23/2011 11:13:53 AM PDT by Beaten Valve
LONDON A report that Norway's bomb and gun rampage may be the work of a far-right militant confronts Europe with the possibility that a new paramilitary threat is emerging, a decade after al-Qaida's Sept. 11 attacks.
One analyst called the attacks possibly Europe's "Oklahoma City" moment, a reference to American right-wing militant Timothy McVeigh who detonated a truck bomb at a federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995, killing 168 people.
Police forces in many western European countries worry about rising far-right sentiment, fueled by a toxic mix of anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant bigotry and increasing economic hardship.

Guess they look at these events and imagine Bill Clinton “dating” again eh!
Liberals love tragedies like these to exploit for their own political gain..they have NO soul
If that were the case, his target would've been Norwegian Muslims. ....of whom there are millions.
A sadly convenient tragedy the Marxists will no doubt use in the attempt to disarm America.
I wonder if Barry has something up his sleeve in response...
MSNBC is the official voice of the regime.
You can bet formal demonization and subsequent ‘special actions’ against anyone considered ‘right wing’ by the obamaites are in the works.
The DHS recent portrayal as white males as the iconic domestic terrorists is part of this .
Get ready for ‘history repeats itself’ v86,442.0
We need to stop being defensive about it. The European right has more in common with the American left than it does with us.
This guy is a pig and McVeigh was a pig.
Now, there seems to be some indications that McVeigh was in with the Jihadis, but I don’t think the same can be said for this Norwegian.
We in America don’t have the history of “right-wing” fascist violence that they do in Europe, so I’m not sure we can really relate to their fears.
But, as of right now, it appears this man acted alone, or like McVeigh with a few close conspirators. I very much doubt he is a vanguard of some new movement.
Too bad the left will seize on this to deflect attention form the jihadis, et al. who are way more numerous and way more murderous than any “right-wing” psychos wandering about.
Or even than our own left-wing gov’t who sends guns to Mexican drug cartels for who knows really what reason?
I agree with you.
His targets make no sense if he was after Muslims.
The Question: What is the reason A_R did not want to log in to FR today?
Woefully devoid of facts, but full of conjecture and slander.
Whatever happened to the lone nut? Regardless of what philosophy these loons espouse, they are really either evil or insane. Their justification for what they do is window dressing.
The Fort Hood massacre headlines never read “Muslim extremist shoots 42 people, killing 13”.
Anyone who thinks Timothy McVeigh acted alone, please raise your hand.
Apparently some fear of blowback from "The People" who look to their duly elected "representatives" to accurately reflect their views.
He was trying to make the enablers of the Muslim invasion pay. His motive, while inexcusable, is not that hard to understand.
very true... European “conservatives” also tend to resemble what we’d label democrats. The so-called “far-right” in Europe, are often bands of thuggish “nationalists” who are extremely anti-capitalist. Somehow the idea that “patriotic aka nationalistic” has stuck as a catch all for right wing. Probably because the Marxists were “internationalists.” It’s unfortunate, because I wouldn’t throw groups who are protecting their countries own national interests in with the nut jobs, but so we have it.... if you aren’t multi-culti you’re a fascist. (sarcasm)
>>worry about rising far-right sentiment, fueled by a toxic mix of anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant bigotry and increasing economic hardship.
What do they expect people to do? The government builds a dependency into the population and confiscates most of their income to pay for the “free” services. Then, it allows foreigners to flood in to take the jobs and overload the freebie system until the people who are working to pay for it all have nothing left but bills and a horde of moochers with their hands out for more. Furthermore, most of the foreigners are of a dangerous “religion” that hates life and everything good and has vowed to destroy or assimilate the native population. Any living being with the survival instinct is going to fight to live and thrive in a case like this. Even in Europe, they haven’t “civilized” everyone enough to passively accept their doom and stand in line patiently awaiting their turn to die.
I suspect this man is a ‘lily white’. This tactical action is very typical of Arab thinking.
It is meant to turn us against one another, to weaken us from within.
The Norwegians will find out the truth behind these acts and our media will ignore the facts. Just you all watch what develops.
“His targets make no sense if he was after Muslims. “
His target was the next generation of Labour Party activists, i.e. the people who make the laws that allow for muslim immigration. In a sick way, it makes plenty of sense.
("We told you so," U.S. Home Land Security.)
You were correct and the media’s agenda has never been more transparent.
If this had been one of the many acts of violence perpetuated by the ROP on a daily basis, it would be wiped from the front page.
“The European right has more in common with the American left than it does with us.”
Agreed, that’s why the EU Right is neo-NAZI. The American left will never admit the truth that it is the home of wanna be NAZIs
I can only imagine the headlines tomorrow. Lib journolists demanding apologies from Sarah Palin, blaming tea partiers, and demanding new agencies be created to protect America from tea party terrorists. I think there are More stories talking about how the shooter is a “right wing terrorist” than there are about the victims off this crime.
Our closest ideological cousins are in Australia, Canada, and Great Britain.
According to some alleged writings he found the ‘multiculturalists’ to blame for Norway’s problems. There have been some high profile immigration cases lately in Norway. The Labor Party has been in control for about 10 years so he probably blames them.
Any comments on leftwing socialism being responsible for 200 MILLION deaths in the 20th century?
Time for Norway to spend billions (and billions) on, wait for it.. NHS Norway Homeland Security. Oh and get colored rainbow alerts too, always fun. Then when your Gov builds a large enough police force between you and well.. your Gov. You will enjoy the peaceful quiet of your government never listening to you. /s
The population of Norway is under 5 million. Just saying, like.
Yeah, I was looking at this chart - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_Norway#By_county - and accidentally read the total pop. rather than the Muslim pop. Still, plenty of Muslims in Norway (7.5% of Oslo’s population, in fact). ...enough to find be able to find them easily.
Well, he had Terry Nichols with him, at the very least.
Exactly. The idiots in the media will be making these exact points every time there is a horrendous mass shooting episode. We ventured down this road recently with Jared Lee Loughner, who the media quickly tried to say was a right-wing nut but turned out he was more or less a left-winged loon.
They call this guy a Right Wing Christian Fundamentalist based on a fishy Facebook page, put up a couple days ago.
Yet the Ft Hood Shooter shouts “Allah Akbar,” openly promotes jihad on Army time, has “Soldier of Allah” on his business card, and “we shouldn’t jump to any conclusions.”
Anyone who thinks McVeigh was a Christian, please raise your hand
Tremble in your beds all ye who are transgressors and who can only shout thou shall.
The wrath of the people shall be upon you and your end is nigh
"No, it makes no sense at all. If his hatred were focused on Muslims and their enablers he'd have gone after at least one them directly. If the enablers were his prime target, he wouldn't have shot up a youth camp, he'd have attempted to kill gov't officials."You don't get it, don't you? Apparently he very deliberately planned it out. A youth camp where the children of the Socialist political elites are, with no security, is a much softer target than the parliament, government buildings, where there can be expected at least some form of security. He wanted big impact and fair probability of success. Not trying to defend his action in any way, only that there is a kind of grim logic.
>a toxic mix of anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant bigotry
It’s not bigotry when the targets are trouble making, freeloading murderous trash. It’s called survival.
The Norweigan Christian community and government screwed up when they thought or made believe they could get along. Just as we were told islam was a religion of peace. But we’ve discovered the peace is piece. They take over piece by piece where ever they live. Look at Dearborn, Michigan.
They are offended by any law/religion, way of life, in any western land they move to.
“Far right militant” is a huge huge stretch
Any thoughts that McVeigh had a 'death bed' conversion were pretty much extinguished by his choice of the 'last words' statement he handed to the warden as he headed to the gallows (or gas chamber). His hand written note was Henley's poem, Invictus. Which ends:
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
Proper words for an atheist who is heading out to eternity. Not for a Christian who has put his all on the Lord Jesus Christ - the anchor of our soul - and the solid Rock in whose cleft we are stayed.
I was unaware than the camp in question was a youth wing of Norway’s Labor Party. So knowing that....yes, there is a grim logic to it.
HELLO..tap..tap..is anybody there?
