SMYRNA, Del - Authorities are searching for five suspects after an armed robbery ended with a shootout in the parking lot of the Fairways Inn bar and strip club in Smyrna early Saturday morning.
Delaware State Police say the 52-year-old victim was walking to his car and carrying the night's proceeds from the business when a male suspect fired a shot at him. Police say the victim dropped the money while pulling his own gun and ran for cover behind several parked cars in the lot. They said the victim began shooting back at the male suspect.
It was then, police say, that five other male suspects, all with hoods covering their heads, also began shooting at the victim. As this was occurring the first suspect picked up the money that the victim had dropped. All five suspects then fled on foot and were last seen running northbound on Route 13.
No one was injured in the gunfire.

As you see more law abiding folks becoming armed, I think you’ll see less “lone wolf” robbers and an increase of group or gang style robberies as criminals pool their resources.

In cases like this..high exposure target in a high profile (strip club setting) local police, if asked will often send a car by at a specified time, to follow the guy tot he bank..It takes 5 minutes max...
and he firing back and no one gets hit....reminds me of John Wayne's quote in ‘The Shootist’

Interesting. When the crooks plan A(bushwhacking the citizen)didn’t work they immediately went to plan B. Sounds like 4 of them were laying down covering fire for the 5th to run up and grab the money.
A store owner once told me that taking the money to a night deposit site was simply a good way to embezzle money.

No description here, buy I would bet one of them was named Leroy or Tyrone.
And I would imagine that in a lot of locales if you rob a strip joint you really don't have to worry about the police tracking you down so much as another much more ruthless organization hunting you down.
What color were the hoods? Sounds a little like an Aryian Nation rally.
Not quite..........this is not exactly an area where you wish to be walking alone. It may not be Wilmington/Philly - yet, but Wilmington or Dover is probably where the perps come from.
Interestingly enough, I am reading the Wilmington paper and there is no mention of this in it.

When I worked at a nightclub in Manhattan in the early 70’s the one-nine used to send a patrol car by to escort the owner around the corner to the bank for a night drop at about 4:30 AM.
I'd give good odds on Dover.
